People's Choice #55

Comments

This is something quite different, but interesting. I would recommend a alternative rap group from norwegian called Gjenfødt Kultur. It would be cool if you reacted to one or more of their songs. Would recommend their newest album, or the song GK ultra or DER TORNER GROR.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE #56 From British musician and rapper Faithless- “Weapons of Mass Destruction” https://youtu.be/uzgBD2wysuI?si=PR5cGcBCNaRkWPh0

Sovieski Perez

Bone Thugs had Beef with Do or Die, Crucial Conflict, Twista and Three 6 Mafia because, they felt all of them were copying their style. Being original the 90’s was a big deal.

Sovieski Perez

You got it

The FrontRoom

YOOOOOOO. Is this the proper spot to request a react??

Timothy-Jeremiah A.R.

Incredible- M-beat, General Levy (British 90s rap) super nice sound

DrFILTH

No More Rain (In This Cloud) - Angie Stone - She just passed away this past weekend in Alabama, I believe both you and your dad would love this - RIP Angie Stone 🙏🏾 😢 💔

Arinesha Jackson

Yes!!! It will be up by tomorrow Emily, I can promise you

The FrontRoom

Burna boy ( Bank on it)

Yefet

MIA is so dope. Great suggestion.

The FrontRoom

I don’t listen to many rappers outside of N.America but I used to loooove M.I.A. I think she can be included as a rapper even tho I think she’s categorized as electronic/dance. She’s totally insane now lol but I loved so many of her albums. So I recommend “Birdflu” by M.I.A

Simira

Great episode! The Isley Bros also remade “Hello, It’s me” in 1974 and that is the version of the song Erykah sampled. Also “squirrel” term is a bit of AAVE saying. In the song, “walking in the rain” by Oran “Juice” Jones, he says, “I’m just a squirrel, trying to catch a nut”. I believe this song is from 1986. Theres, also a saying of “it’s ur world, squirrel”. “Walking in the rain” by Oran “Juice” Jones would be my suggestion for the next People’s choice.

Simira

Suggest for next people choice - Case -missing you

Smoove

were you guys still going to do the chloe and halle tiny desk?

Emily

Love that Luchini track!!! 🎶 Angie Stone’s “I wish I didn’t miss you” would be a nice listen as someone else suggested, if you guys could. I used to have that on repeat. She sadly just passed away

Drea Lansiquot

Co-sign!

Kenysha

I just finished listening to Angie's 'Brotha'. RIP to a Queen!

Kenysha

Hi guys!👋🏼☺️ For next week, I recommend "Monie In The Middle" by Monie Love(from London), "Buffalo Stance" by Neneh Cherry(from the UK), and "Thé á La Menthe" by LA Caution (from France). Also, Wyclef isn't from the U.S.🤷🏽‍♀️, so "Gone Till November " by him, if you want.

Earlona Weary

Wish I didn’t miss you - Angie Stone, one of the trailblazers of neo soul who unfortunately just passed in a car accident earlier today. (For an open week or maybe a single song tribute)

Jordan Richardson

On another note, Kai, I love the hat!!! My suggestion for next week is Slick Rick "The Show"

Shaquea White

True that Precious!

Shaquea White

Love Lucini. You can't listen without bobbing your head. I always thought the video for Lucini was nice. Yes to the Marvin Gaye album. You should check out an artist named Amel Larriuex. Included in her catalog is a version of Hello. At the same time I always loved the original. The Mariah Carey Butterfly album is one of my favorites and My All is one of the best on the album.

Shaquea White

Camp lo had a lot of 70's culture influence, from how they dress to the vocabulary.

Jay Miller

You should listen to the Isly Brothers version of "Hello" , its one if their classic songs!

Jay Miller

Going to have me a listen to the Isley's version right now! (dad)

The FrontRoom

Beyonce = Bey Hive. She's the Queen Bey. It's a play on her name. Also, Kai, you didn't answer the question 😂

Kenysha

Pc #56: Lous and the Yakuza- “ Tout est gore” She is a congolese- Belgian rapper and singer.

Cinmnapple

Yay! I’m glad you guys chose Ravyn she’s so cool. Beyhive/Beehive/Hive came about bc people used to very commonly call Beyoncé the Queen Bee or Queen Bey (lil Kim has a similar moniker but idk if her fans are called a bee hive as well)

Cinmnapple

Please Listen to Twista’s Adrenaline Rush(1997) album . It’s one of the early classic albums out of chicago

ryan thompson

PC 56 Rich Brian - Dat $tick So Ghostface Killah and a few other rappers were doing a reaction video to his music video. A few weeks later Ghostface was on the remix. I would highly suggest watching the visit for the original version. The juxtaposition (one of my favorite words too) of visuals with is voice is incredible. And he was 16 at the time.

ficy

The beat for this This Is It was made as an apology for giving Jay Z the beat for Politics As Usual. Ski Beatz signed Camp Lo as artists, but he was also working on Reasonable Doubt and produced a total of 4 records on the album. They really loved the horns on Politics As Usual and rhymed over it first, but Jay actually paid for the beat. So luchini means money and we only got this song because they didn't have enough money to pay for another beat

ficy

In response to the changing of words conversation, I was just having this convo with someone about the word woke. It was coined in the 1920s/30s meaning stay alert or be socially and politically conscious and has now sadly been co opted as a dog whistle or slur.

Precious

PC56: Passion Pit - Sleepyhead

Bdawg

Songs this week were FIRE :) Ravyn's a recent favorite of mine, should do more. The Mariah coverage continues to bring me back to my teens. I forget how talented she is. But man, how did I not know about that Erykah song? With Andre? Interpolating Todd Rundgren? So good.

Aakash

The Streets - Let’s Push Things Forward

Jiminy

Adrenaline Rush is a fantastic album and would be great if they decided to do a full album review of it one day.

Jiminy

PC#56: Sean Paul a Jamaican rapper -“Temperature”

Robin

This was a great PC. Thanks guys! Yes to Marvin! I was going to request one of his songs but deleted it. I Want You is a no skip album. Rayvn Lenae is one of my top alt rb artist. Her song ‘Skin Tight’ ft Steve Lacy is my jam.

Precious

Thanks for reacting to ‘Hello’ Glad you enjoyed it. It’s one of my favorite songs of all time. I was hoping you would play a snippet of Todd’s version. The Isley Brothers did a cover of ‘Hello, It’s Me’ which was the interpolation used in this song. Back story…Andre and their son Seven were helping Erykah put ideas together for her mixtape and Andre suggested ‘Hello’ by the Isley Brothers. It started off as a solo. She later invited Andre to lay a verse on the track. After hearing each others part, they came up with the idea of making it a duet… I thought there was significance with the word squirrel but according to them it just rhymed with girl lol

Precious

Chicago loves DoOrDie & Twista! Glad to see the reaction. To continue w/this I would say react to: Do U by Do Or Die. Gotta Get Me One by Twista & Static Major. Dj Play a Love Song by Jamie Foxx and Twista.

Noni

PC#56: MC Solaar - Le Bien, Le Mal [FRANCE] Jay Park - Soju (feat. 2 Chainz) [KOREA] Pete & Bas - Plugged In [UK]

djhyjak

He's super dope

Tnulb

Agreed! I've been trying to get them to listen to Tech9ne for a while now

Tnulb

I can GUARANTEE you guys would definitely appreciate Twista's album "Adrenaline Rush". It's criminally underrated. The entire album is like a movie. Also, Twista is extremely good at not only being fast but understandable and the way he rides the beats is unlike any other rapper. Stylistically, one of the best to do it. Please check out that album sometime

Tnulb

I feel like you guys now have to listen to the Tech N9ne Worldwide Choppers tracks.

Chrome Helmit

Excited for this one! ....but first: PC 56: -"Memoirs" Maglera Doe Boy (South Africa) -"Talkin the Hardest" Giggs (London)

Tnulb

I feel like an up and coming rapper that gives Po Pimp and Suga Free’s baby is Akeem Ali.

Nolly Thando

Wizkid ft Damian Marley - Blessed
