While I was rereading, I realized I wanted to insert something really important for later on, and saw the opportunity. This scene will need some major reworking because this is just me getting the idea down, but I think you’ll find it interesting regardless.

A FEW RULES & REMINDERS:
Chapters will be dropping as Bryce completes them. That means anywhere from every 1 to 2 weeks on average, though sometimes waits may be longer.
Recall that these are rough chapters, with no editing other than a single pass-through as Bryce writes.

Would it be possible to get a story so far with this in the appropriate place? It would at least give me something to tide me over during the upcoming (and very understandable) delay :o)

Why did Kenji and Samantha get so upset about the transfer? What happened when Kenjii had to explain to his dad about Reidon? I’m dying for those answers

2024-11-19 02:09:03 +0000 UTCAlso before anyone gets mad at this post just know that my disappointment comes from the bar that I believe Bryce has set for himself in the two previous installments of this series. I truly believe he is capable of better writing than has been shown in 22 or so of these 25 chapters which is why I posted this in the first place. He really is a talented writer and I know he can produce something better. I hope that he isn’t just rushing through this to put out content for this patreon because I would much prefer he takes his time to tell a more well crafted and concise story. Having just finished Cradle and it immediately becoming my favorite series of all time I didn’t think I’d find another series that comes even close to the love I feel for that one. This series has done a really great job of filling the void that cradle has left for me. I truly think this series could go down in history of one of the all time greats if Bryce took some inspiration from that series and cut out all of the unnecessary filler BS and got straight to the point. There is a reason cradle is widely regarded as the best progression fantasy series of all time. I personally believe that reason is because Wight managed to write a series in which he didn’t run off on any irrelevant stories and details and stuck to the stories of the main characters and only things that would progress the plot.

Not only are they pretty fast paced but there are some scenes where the dialogue is just absolutely perfect and literally gives me chills. Book two especially was amazing up until the last Firesong team battle was over when it just seemed to completely fizzle out. That being said I’m slightly disappointed in how book 3 has begun. I read through all of this material in about a week so I don’t remember every chapter I’ve read of these most recent 25 but I think I’ve actually enjoyed 3 of them. The whole thing has felt like a soap opera with all of the teenage drama. The three I enjoyed were when they first met the trainers and did their first training session. They were excellent and continued on everything I loved in the previous two books. I do think the part where Rei dislocates his shoulder just from running into Jetway should be removed. This kid has been through hell since getting his CAD but now he falls apart running into someone? I feel like this is an attempt to show the trainers he’s tough which I would much rather see done in a scene prior to them meeting firesong either with dent and Rama or uneo jasper filling them in in everything he’s been through. Or even a scene of the trainers talking about him after a training session going over what he put up with during that session. I just feel like it could be done in a better way. Rei is supposed to be pretty much a genius and he knows that he is a relative of of Hiroto Kimaya but for some reason has a hard time wrapping his head around the fact that he’s his grandfather? I think the dialogue in that chapter needs some serious revision. I really don’t need a whole random story about Uneo Jasper saving some random woman just to show that she might actually be a good person. Felt like a huge waste of time. Also felt this during the Dice and Lennon chapters. I enjoy them as side characters but I don’t need to hear about their stories. To be perfectly honest I don’t really even enjoy hearing about Lennon fighting all that much. I would much rather hear about the progression/fighting of the members of firesong and preferably Rei. I also don’t care about von Bor’s granddaughters fight. There are too many long stories about unnecessary characters in these chapters so far. I really hope the part where von bor tells the team about vivs ability stays because it’s a great power move. I’ll be super frustrated if Rei isn’t insanely overpowered by the time systems comes and if he doesn’t just roll over everyone. I know this is a super negative post and I sound like a Debby downer but after just coming off of the high I rode on with the majority of book two it just feels like WAY too slow of a start to this book and trying to fit in a bunch of unneeded filler. I really can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. I’m super addicted at this point and want more ASAP but at the same time I hope enough time is taken to make this book as rewarding as the last two have been.

If it’s an extreme speed ability w/ enhanced cognition (currently the speed boosts we’ve seen don’t speed up thinking as well) then a brain enhancement would make sense.

2024-11-09 09:41:00 +0000 UTCI disagree with your comments’ sentiment to be honest, and I get that it was understanding of Bryce’s circumstances, but all the same, what we see here is expected to be rough at first. What we are getting here on patreon is basically the drawing board of the story, or at least the part that comes just after the drawing board. We are here because we are too impatient to wait for the official book release and that’s ok, as long as we understand what we have signed up for, and that what we have signed up for is not a full edited novel. Of course some things are going to be rough, if you want the perfect version then just wait for the books to be released.

On the other side, I hope your family (and you) are doing well. Especially those in recovery. Take another week, breath, relax, enjoy, and remember what motivated you to write. I love the books. And I love watching them develop with these chapters. I am no where near creative enough to even put together a basic story, let alone a universe. And yes, that first insult was to grab anger and hate.... intentionally. But Me and Mine wish you the best. Take the time you need. Ban me if you want, whatever. It needed to be said. Take some more time, and find your self again. (Side note) It wasnt bad, just not up to your usual... flair?!? Kinda thing.

Like what is ‘that’, which I can only assume is something to do with Gamela (and Shido), and… Just how powerful is Shido! Rei took dozens of S0 hits and his neuroline didn’t just not fry, it absorbed the damage and used it to grow!!! Thanks for adding this in Bryce!! It’s definitely something which we needed to see, and I’m super stoked to seeing what comes of this later on! Now my mind is spinning with the shards overruling their natural Growth and replacing it with a part of Shido’s or something. Or maybe it just puts Growth back into the pot as something that can be improved normally and not just the few times over a User’s career! I think it was one of the quotes in Book 1 where Abel says Growth is the measure of survival or something. So I guess Rei is immortal, and Firesong will become the demigods in the pantheon headed by the Stormweaver :oD Abso-fucking-lutely epic!!!!!

It will be inserted after the current chapter 14, pushing all chapters up a number. So the last release, chapter 25, will end up being chapter 26, and the next release, chapter 27, will actually be chapter 27. The joys of writing a novel on patreon instead of a Serial lol
