People's Choice #9

Comments

Jodeci is probably my favorite 90s R&B group, possibly of all time. New Edition is up there too. Def. need to do some more Jodeci.

Lance

That man said 🎶It’s been an hour since you’ve been gone, and that’s too long so come back home.🎶 Child just a hour and he can’t function. 😂 Yet another song snippet that lives rent-free in my mind…

HeeeyOhaji-_-

Oh wow I commented on another video that you should listen to Cry For You by Jodeci! I had no idea you already did! I wish you reacted to the music video but I’m super excited to see what you think about the song… Ok well I hope you’ve listened to it again since this reaction bc you walked and talked all over the song. I can see KCi’s (and others’) vocals seeming a little too much if you’re not really listening to the instrumentation and lyrics from the beginning all the way thru that led up to the build up and passionate adlibs. Just a thought.

HeeeyOhaji-_-

R&b groups like Tony Toni Toné and Jodeci are like a whole separate religion in the black community. 😂

TheKitt’sPajamas

When a person says they “slid” a person or they had to/about to “slide” a person, it means they beat the breaks off them or are about to. 😂

TheKitt’sPajamas

“SwollenMembers”? Wow. That name is… a choice… 🥴😂

TheKitt’sPajamas

Swollen members have two songs I know from my favorite video game ssx3, deep end - Utah saints, and all night they are very good songs I feel like everybody would love if they gave a chance.

Alex Moore

GREAT IDEA GUYS! MY CHOICE WOULD BE: THE PHARCYDE- "4 BETTER OR 4 WORST". YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO REACT TO THE MUSIC VIDEO. IT ADDS ALOT TO THE "ODD & WEIRDNESS"!👀😁

KAZBAAH

Quirky but 🔥 = I Need A Forest Fire by James Blake ft. Bon Iver. ❤️❤️❤️

Nicole

My recommendation for an odd but good song is called Flea Market by Tierra Whack. Thanks! P.S. The song is only 1 minute long so don’t fret when you see that. She made a whole album of 1 minute songs lol.

Nicole

Quincy Jones-The Secret Garden featuring Barry White ,AL B Sure, James Ingram and El DeBarge

Zina

Morris Brown by OutKast... I played the song every morning for a month straight when it came out LOL

Desertbutterfly78

Oh yes, I'd love if they would react to Japanese Cartoon man. Make sure to peep SoundCloud for that tho @ Dad & Kai

ERIK

Turn out the lights

Zina

Excited for episode 10. Great idea gentlemen. Japanese Cartoon - Heirplanes (Lupe's less known British Rock Band) Lupe - What you want (experimental rap) Cheers

Check Mate

Hi guys, Tony, Toni, Tone, is pronounced Tony. So it's basically your saying Tony 3 times. It's just 3 different ways to spell Tony. And wait, did I hear your dad say he didn't know or haven't heard who Teddy Pendergrass was? If that's the case stop everything right now and proceed straight to the Teddy P section and play Love TKO and Come and Go With Me.

Carla Davis

I have the perfect songs for this! Whisper- serpentwithfeet Seventeen- Marina and the diamonds

Izzy

Great reaction as always! Not sure if it’s weird enough but Wine Pon Yo-Doja Cat and W.E.T Paloma Ford

Fatima

Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass

ERIK

Air - La Femme D'Argent

André Monteiro

Love you guys videos it’s great to hear your father‘s perspective and I’m enjoying seeing the evolution of him understanding and appreciating hip-hop. It could be kind of harsh if you go straight into it, but I suggest Papoose the name of the song is cure featuring Erykah Badu.

Christopher Lugo

Never heard of Quicksand and enjoyed it. Kai was correct in his statement of singers sounding what I would call a little less soulful now..there are many reasons but one of the reasons being that many musicians back then had their start/musical training in the church which definitely influenced their aesthetic and artistic output. My “different” suggestions for this week are Janelle Monoe “Tight Rope” (would suggest to watch video) “Electric Feel” MGMT.

Precious

Tony, Toni, Tone is so dope...especially Raphael Saddiq

King Jaffe Joffer

The Jubalaires is a gospel group from the 40's they came out with a song called Noah which is said to be the first rap song.

Zina

Whodini - The Freaks come out at night

Zina

Letter to The Lord by the group Bakers of the holy bread. Very obscure and underground hip-hop from the early nineties.

Theo Holmgren

Cameo -Candy or Word Up with the videos was one of the best Funk bands in the late 90's early 20's

Zina

Have you hear the album "Instant Vintage"?! Criminally underrated. Sadiq is so talented

Tnulb

Love it! Great recommendation

Tnulb

GREAT RECOMMENDATION!

Tnulb

Love Gangsta Lean! I remember listening to this on the bus on the way to school... 😆 heck of a way to start the day

Tnulb

"Slide" is slang for fight (and winning) in that situation Morray was talking about. So, fought 2 guys in one night and won.

Tnulb

Good to know! Thanks.

The FrontRoom

Crazy fun artist suggestion - Sho Madjozi "John Cena"

Richard and Raya

My vote for PC #10 is Love Shack by the B52s. Corky and fun.

Alisha

Jodeci is my favorite male R&B group period!! Range is CRAZY🤪. Upbeat tunes, slow jams, and everything in between. Diary of a Mad Band is my favorite album and Luv U 4 Life is my favorite song. A rabbit hole worth going down.

Alisha

Throwing some WEIRDNESS towards your guys way! Definitely listen to one of these. Love the videos fellas! When You Die - MGMT Livin’ Loose - George Clanton Lipstick - Ariel Pink

Bad Hombre

Crazy by Doechii Tia Tamera by Doja Cat Golden Boys by Res Get Along with You by Kelis Imaginary Parties by Superfruit Coffee In Bed by Pentatonix Don’t You Know by Ol’ Dirty Bastard

ReezyFBaybee

People’s choice #10: MO THUGS- GHETTO COWBOY 🤠 (It’s a weird cool song) Enjoy with lyrics

Sovieski Perez

The name of the group, Jodeci, comes from the names of the members JoJo (Jo) Devante (de) K-Ci (ci)

Jen M

If they do this, I will literally throw my phone!! 😆😀🤣

Jen M

Kai knows about Teddy Pendergrass? 😂🤣 okay!!

Jen M

Dad, the begging in R&B was like a sub genre of R&B in the 90s! Lol! There were so many begging songs! 😂

Jen M

Not odd, or absurd. But if they watch this video it’ll definitely catch them off guard.

JaRon Miller

Devin the dude boo boo’n

Jr Rick

Devin the dude lacville 79

Jr Rick

DSR - Gansta Lean Definitely different & just an overall good song.

ProRenae

The Humpty dance by Digital underground is a great fun song for you guys to react to I think your dad would love it

will brewer

SiR needs a reaction

Marco

Rafael Saddiq is such a good musician and producer. He worked on Beyoncé’s new album. It’s worth listening to some of their other songs. Specifically on this album.

Joylynn06

Omg!!!! Thank you so much for reacting to my suggestion of Jodeci. You picked up on SO much!!!! The attire was a big deal because at the time most R&B singers wore suits/classic attire. Jodeci came out in more of a hip hop style. The 2 lead singers are brothers: K-Ci and JoJo. But K-Ci definitely is a more aggressive singer. They sang on Tupac’s song “How Do You Want It.” One member, DeVante Swing wrote and produced most of their songs and he also had a musical collective (Swing Mob) of artists that he discovered, including Missy and Timbaland. The group has been sampled or referenced by tons of artists, as Kai mentioned. Thanks again for checking them out!! 🥰

Adrienne

Or B.U.D.D.Y it’s a good one too.

Joylynn06

Leather by Tori Amos. It’s a weird one but a lot of her music is oddly compelling to listen to. Tori Amos was also a piano prodigy as a child.

Joylynn06

My weird/unknown R&B songs are: Stuck- Durand Bernarr ft Ari Lennox (fun fact Durand is Erykah Badu's male background singer) & Lessons- Eric Roberson The guitar work on this song reminds me of lay your head on my pillow (Tony Toni Tone)

Sheivon Jackson

Hi both! Love this new idea and it's been an absolute privilege to watch your journey with music. I have an Arabic funk suggestion that is absolutely fantastic and worth a listen. From Morocco, Fadoul was influenced by James Brown but brought a punk attitude to their music. Super unique, wonderful sound and not something I think you'll come across on your own. If you get round to it, the song is: Fadoul - Ahl Jedba. Thank you! as always it's great to be here :)

Maya

Newcleus- Jam on it with the video

Zina

Have you guys listened to De La Sol’s - Me, Myself, and I?—love this group, they are little off the beaten path as well…

Janhann Turner

You said quirky for PC10 I got y’all. .. check out ⭐️⭐️(Spaceships by tank and the bangas) or ( Mango butter by Durand Bernarr)⭐️⭐️ please Tank and the bangas are a great band another great song by them is colors change. Durand brings a lot of his personality to his music anther great song of his is Leveled. Would love if you checked either out.

J G

I believe you did a song featuring one of the members of Tony Toni Tone Raphael Saadiq. I maybe mistaken.

Zina

Thank you for doing my suggestion. N.W.A. - Automobile / It has Eazy E and Dr. Dre singing whole song instead of rapping and it might be weirdest song gangstar rap group ever done. "Weird Al" Yankovic - White & Nerdy / Wouldn't really call it weird but it's definitely among the best hip hop parody songs.

Ziomek Young

Morray is from North Carolina and when he say slide back in my day meant to punch someone.

Zina

This is tough... -Tech N9ne "Aw Yeah (Intervention)" -Brotha Lynch Hung "Meat Clever" (Don't judge me)

Tnulb

Thong Song - Sisqo (absurd song but I love the violins and vocals lol) Saturday by Ludacris I Smell Smoke by Mystikal or really anything by Mystikal 😂 Becky by Plies Holidae Inn - Chingy Dance - Big Sean The Humpty Dance - Digital Underground Party Up - DMX All pretty absurd songs but still great and fun to listen to 😂 Also, at some point y’all should check out the r&b singer, Lloyd. His style is similar to Miguel and he has a few songs with Lil Wayne. His most popular song, “You”, is featuring Wayne and he has a similar song to “Lay Your Head on My Pillow” called “Lay It Down”.

Raven

Frankie Smith - Double Dutch Bus released in 1981 a very fun song but was a hit when it came out.

Zina

Because I got high by Afroman. At a party freshman year of college and I thought what the hell is this? 😆 but it's so catchy! Watch the video if possible.

Kenysha

Willis Earl Beal - Swing On Low (Spoons are one of the instruments and it sounds like it was recorded over a phone, but it's clear) Clarence Carter - Strokin'

ficy

Unique but good recs: Fye Fye by Tobe Nwigwe (hip hop/rap) Or Witchoo by Durand Jones and the Indicators (not sure what genre this one is 🤣)

Jen M

“Cherry” or “House in LA” by Jungle, both are so good I can’t decide!!

Jordan Richardson

Tierra Whack- Only Child(great artists) Corpse, Night Lovell- Hot demon b!tches near u( song was pretty popular. ) Sir- John Redcorn ( love his tiny desk) Kanye West- New Slaves (I know a lot of people that hate this song. ) The Isley Brothers- Contagious (not odd at all. I’m 99% sure everyone know this song) I don’t think these songs are odd but I enjoy them.

WaterLord Jaz

Zo- In the wind

Gemintheye

thinking of Ep. 10 Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm (the 7inch version) Fantastic Negrito - The Duffler Herb Alpert – North On South St. ( jazz 90's house)

djhyjak

jazz liberatorz- genius at work

Gemintheye

count bass- how we met

Gemintheye

My pick for next week’s People’s Choice: 2 live crew- Doo Doo Brown Very explicit but gets the crowd going lol you both will be taken aback 🤣 they’re the reason why the explicit warning stickers had to be placed on CD’s 🫢

EazyBadmon

GLASS ANIMALS- GOOEY

Gemintheye

SOUTHERN GUL -Erykah Badu: Sounds like a normal song from the title but the entire song is sung acapella the only instrument being the voice of Rahzel, a lifetime achievement winning beatbox artist and rogue member of The Roots. It's so good and out of the box. Being a southern gul myself its quite the b-side anthem.

The Afro Buddha

Sir Greendown - Janelle Monáe BaBopByeYa - Janelle Monáe (this one is almost 9 minutes) 😅 The whole album these songs come from is worth a listen.

PinkTater24

Unique or odd 🤔 I'd say "Creator" by Santigold or "Pacer" by Doechii please 🙏🏾

Lady LaReux

Ahhh...and Jodeci, man that was a classic group as well

jeff baker

Tony Toni Tone is a classic group. Raphael Saadiq, who was singing there is quite the musician. He's worked with a lot of people including a song with D'Angelo

jeff baker

"See Thru" by Leak Bros (Cage & Tame One) is one of the weirdest hip-hop songs you'll hear. It's from a concept album about angel dust called "Waterworld", and is one of the most unique albums out there.

Ruben Reyes

More Tony! Toni! Toné! Please! Preferably “anniversary” or “loving you” Cleo Sol “things will get better” or “promises”

Marco

Halley Hiatt feat Denzil Porter - To Die Alone Her singing is beautiful and his rapping is top tier
