Jazmine Sullivan - Pick Up Your Feelings & 11y/o The Wiz Performance

Comments

Please review her song Stupid Girls.. she gives an impromptu performance in a barbershop full of men! The lyrics are so good!

Jacquelyn Ford

You should do "You Can't Win" from the Wiz sung by MJ

Ashely Garner

Hey Guys!! Please review Jazmine's "Need U Bad" I may be mistaken but I believe this was her first hit May 2008. Peace and Blessings to all and their Families!!

Angela Faison

I can NOT wait for you all to do In Love With Another Man. Live or studio, it is amazing!

Kyesia Belle

I forgot Richard Pryor was in that. Haven’t seen it since it released in ‘78 so yes, would like to watch it again with Kai in tow. - dad

The FrontRoom

I’m just her to comment that Dad, you have to get Kai to watch The Wiz. With Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsy Russell, and Richard Proyer. It’s such a good movie WITH GREAR MUSIC!!

Danielle

Thank for the tip, Alisha! (dad)

The FrontRoom

Good observation. I never know where her voice is going to go next, she’s so darn creative with it and it always works! (dad)

The FrontRoom

Wow, nice!

The FrontRoom

I remembered that dad would have preferred Jazmine and HER's tiny desk performance of Girl Like Me with only Jazmine. You guys have to check out Jazmine's solo performance of it in OK Now Listening Session on Netflix. It's perfect. 🥰

Alisha

The thing I love about Jazmine is her ability to flow like hip hop (rapper) with her singing. There's also a performance of her singing on Showtime at the Apollo shortly after this....

AuntyPhylie

I have found an even greater appreciation for Jazmine!

Olivia Bernard

😅 yes and the lyrics are really nice “look at my jeans I am too thick, I ain’t got no room for extra baggage” 🔥

Kamanda Hickey

I love the vocals and the lyrics of that song on top of the fact that the video is full of plants …I am a plant person you can tell ( I have like 80 indoors ) 😅 If you put plants in your background I hope you have a window near 😉.

Kamanda Hickey

You're both wrong and right at the same time 😆. She's saying "pick up your feelings, don't leave no pieces".

Tawanda

In love with another man is my favorite song by her. Like you have found out her live versions of songs are sooooo good

Crazygirl84

Oh, Kai, The Wiz is basically the black version of The Wizard of Oz. The movie starred Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. You should watch it! The Broadway play version starred R&B singer Stephanie Mills…she won some Tony Awards from it too. The movie is probably on Netflix, at least it was.

Jen

This may be the first time I request a do over cuz Dad wasn’t listening to the lyrics 😂 this is such a badazz song if you listen to the lyrics, but that’s ok I guess. I did love seeing Jazmine singing at the age of 11! Beautiful!

Jen

Oh man I hope y’all react to my comment suggestions 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

Model Mantha

Yes! I really want to listen to In Love With Another Man - a lot of people have requested that one. With every new Jazmine song we hear we are expecting something new and fresh and she always seems to be able to deliver. (dad)

The FrontRoom

Ha ha. I have one foot firmly planted in my past, Amanda, as Kai could tell you. Not sure if that’s a good thing!

The FrontRoom

You guys definitely have to listen to In Love With Another Man and Need U Bad.

Kenysha

I love Jazmine so much!!! 💕 please listen to her songs “In Love With Another Man” and “Forever Don’t Last”. She also has amazing covers of “Round Midnight” (on Adam Blackstone’s album) and “Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child” (Elvis movie soundtrack)

Adrienne

Dad has 1 hell of a memory... I googled it and the wiz came out October 24th 1978 🤷🏽‍♀️. I can't remember what I was doing last year 🫠

Amanda B

I clicked on this soooo fast!! 😆

Alisha

Wow, thanks Carla for all the great background info on Jazmine. Such a talented family. Her writing skills are exceptional - so well crafted and unique. (dad)

Jazmine's mom was a professional backup singer for Philadelphia international records that should tell you something right there. If not Google Philadelphia international records abs see the singers and writers involved with that label. Her mom heard her daughter sing early on and thought she was special. Jazmine says her mom was the first person to believe in her voice and her talent for writing music as well. Her mom was her first person to give her any vocal instruction. Jazmine did later go to a performing arts high school in Philadelphia. He family also lived in an historic house/museum in Philly...."Strawberry House" I believe her mom was also a gifted paintwr. Her mother just passed away in July 2023 from breast cancer and understandably she took it hard. While her mom was going through chemo Jazmine shaved her head in solidarity with her mom. Just so you know, jazmine was first signed to a record label at 15 obit to be released by that label later on. She is now 36. She had more success early on as a writer. Her first solo album was executive produced by MISSY ELLIOTT. I'll telling you this because I want you to know that she is not an overnight success. She has years of doing this under her belt. Her voice, style and perspective has always be considered "UNIQUE" and sometimes it takes some people some time to get used to it, or to "get it", If they ever do at all, but at the end of the dat like her, or not, her talent is undeniable.

Carla Davis

I think I may have mentioned that I listened to the studio version of one of her Tiny Desk songs and based on that I have to agree with you. The live version was better (and perfect!). - dad

The FrontRoom

My word. HOW was her voice that developed at 11 yrs old. That is absolutely amazing

Tnulb

I love Jazmine Sullivan but her albums NEVER do her Justice. She's so much better live and also never noticed the lack of percussion until Kai mentioned it 🤯

Amanda B

The Wiz is one of the greatest pieces of creative mastery ever created.

The Afro Buddha

Jazmine has a way of keeping the percussion like timing with her melodies and vocal tone. It's a really hard thing to do masterfully. When other's try it...it actually feels cringey. This is part of the brilliance, allure and mystery of her voice.

The Afro Buddha

It feels like it's been so long! Not sure if it has been or if I've just been tuned out... Glad you're back or glad I've snapped outta it 🫠

Amanda B

I'm so excited for this
