I get this but dang Central, how fast does the poor boy have to develop? He is already C9 at a little over halfway through the first academic year and has ended up in the hospital twice due to people "advancing him faster".

I have been wondering this for awhile. Back when Aria was arguing with Salista in book one about the individual testing and going to Galens. At what point are these teenagers considered adults? Obviously since Aria is in the military, her parents aren't paying for her schooling (otherwise Rei could never afford to go to Galens) so why does Aria let her mom push her around so much?

I’m curious about the parent involvement angle. In the first book I believe Guest told off Salista in reference to Auria’s privacy since she is 18 and a student at the academy. I’m guessing there could be orders to move them from Central and I’m not discounting the influence of the purse strings/family but what happens if Rei and Auria tell everyone to pound sand and they aren’t moving? Perhaps that’s part of the 3 chapter drop. Lol.

Well shit indeed rei, well shit indeed. Aria might have fucked up. Because now her dad is going to put all the pressure on rei. Because he might think nobody is good enough for aria. On the other side we do see him trying to connect but he is really really clumsy at it. To the point that even his friend rama is staring at him like "really dude? Really?"

Very sensible theory, I think that might be plausible. One of the biggest reasons that this has nothing to do with him being a concerned father is the way he reacted in the chapter he received a call. He literally went “WHAT%#$%^#^&”, so I assume that central knew they couldn't convince Rei to go to the Sol System, and they are using Aria. I assume central just called him and said, “yo, we want Aria in the Sol System, she is strong. Just convince your daughter alright, good luck. Btw, if for some reason Rei wants to come along, that's also fine.”. They of course want Rei.

My theory is that Central is hoping to use Aria as incentive to encourage Rei to move to a better school in the Sol system where he can develop faster and they can try to control him.

My theory of what is happening is that the order came from central and Carmen is following orders by using the whole “concerned parent” shtick. He didn’t know that Aria and Rei are dating so I would bet his entire opinion might change. It has been mentioned that Carmen really does care for Aria so he might be doing this out of the idea that central is concerned for her future and so he wants to help her. Carmen may now realize that the order was actually intended to manipulate Rei and now he is angry because that means that central is manipulating his daughter.

This could be the beginning of the end of Firesong. There wouldn't be so many stories about Stormweaver's lonely climb to fight the war if he has Firesong around him so there is a good reason to suspect that he will be separated from them in the future; this could be the first step.

I was a young enlisted man and went with my then girlfriend to meet her parents and stay with them for the weekend. Her dad was a general officer. While we didn’t end up getting married we stayed in contact over the years even after marrying other people. The big C took her a year and a half ago. Her dad and I still stay in touch. He still uses the Green Bay Packers checkbook cover I gave him as a Christmas present in 1997. Just throwing it out there that an intimidating first meeting can turn out well.

This was like the time I was living in Japan and having to ask my girlfriend’s father if she could go with me to the US. I was about an hour into the conversation when she came in and said,”we’re already engaged so I don’t see what the big deal is.” Her mother started freaking out and my girlfriend just left the room again, leaving me with her mother and father. I wanted to dig a hole in the floor and crawl in. Then, I was asked to leave the house. We’ve been married now for 25 years and this chapter brought all that back. Thanks for the memory, I think..

Reading it again and I really do hope that Rei realizes Central is mucking about in this again and calls it out. I realize it's probably fanciful that they wouldn't get their way but it'd be nice if they didn't for once pulling this kind of thing constantly.
