Guys, I am a 49 yo woman who was born and grew up in a country in Eastern Europe. I have been listening to rap music since I can remember and Fugees and Lauryn are my all time favs. I am so grateful to you listening and explaining the lyrics because I am obviously from a different culture and although I speak English, it was sometimes hard for me to fully get the lyrics, or rather, the meaning of it. I just felt it, you know, but never fully understood. Thank you for the great job, I subscribed and will follow your videos for sure. Will you also do one about Rakim? Pls do if you have not. Much love from Europe <3

He said dancing around the border is referring to illegally crossing the border to enter the United States. Basically sneaking into the country. Immigration can be challenging for certain groups of people. The song is paying homage to immigrants who often don't get much love. Prison or jail time was glorified back then in the music because it was so prevalent in communities of color.

He was saying that some people are only ganster towards their own neighbors but not toward the police. He was saying that he has family businesses and he doesn't want people looting his property because they're mad about police brutality. It sounds reminiscent of the LA riots after the police was acquitted even after being caught on tape beating Rodney King. Even though that happened in Los Angeles, every city in the US had problems with systemic racism, poor living conditions and police brutality. Even though we're from different regions Black Americans share experiences and hip hop culture unifies us.
