UNCUT: Dr. Dre - The Chronic Reaction

Comments

Always enjoy hearing the details behind the tracks. It's cool how artists walk into the studio with an idea and then things happen and the final outcome reflects what happened during the session. (dad)

Also another little tidbit, in the hip hop culture, there has always been a definite distinction between women and bitches/hoes. So when rappers refer to women as bitches and hoes, they’re not referring to women in general, but certain types of women that fit that description.

First things first, I love going back to your old reactions like this one. But I have to say that last song Bitches Ain’t Shit, Dr Dre’s verse was actually a diss to Eazy E and Jerry Heller, he wasn’t actually talking about a woman at all. And that last rap where the woman (Jewell, RIP) came in singing and then rapping, she was actually only doing a reference vocal for another female rapper and the lyrics she said were just random lyrics to give the other rapper an idea of the cadence she needed to rap but when Dre heard it and she came out of the booth he decided to keep it and she said her mother was horrified to hear it because she grew up in church so that was not her performance style at all lol.

Excellent review. This is a top 10 all time album for me. Kai was suprised to heat you werent that familiar with Snoop's Doggystyle. That is a top 20 all time album. Continues much of what The Chronic did and since your dad preferred Snoop's rapping would be a great choice as that album is Snoop at his best.

Congratulations as always to react and threat so deeply and good, a masterpiace like this of hip hop history! A further note i want to share, the female rapper in Lyrical Gangbang is Lady of rage, one of best west coast female rapper ever. Her voice and flow are like a punch in your face.. I love it Suggestion: listen her track "Lady of rage - Afro puffs"

My bro T-Money Green played bass all over "The Chronic" as well as Snoop's first album. I literally just spoke with him yesterday. He has some great stories. He used to play for 'The Dramatics' too.

Born in 88' and this was the first rap album I ever listened to back in 7th grade. From the intro to the last song I was hooked and Dre been the GOAT imo ever since. The next two rap albums I listened to were Doggystyle and All Eyez On Me. Dre Snoop and Pac is a high bar to set lol.

Especially since his dad liked snoop dogg on this album. This album and doggystyle are two of my favourites. Both classics that you can listen to from start to finish.

This was such a great video. I beg you to listen to doggystyle soon. People argue if that one is better than this

Great reaction to an iconic album! Just a few notes: - The D.O.C. is a rapper originally from Texas, who moved to California and worked with N.W.A. and Dr Dre. Dre produced his debut and only album, No Life Can Do It Better (which is a classic by the way). The D.O.C. lost his voice in a car accident shortly after the release of this album and wasn't able to record rap songs anymore. However, he kept working with Dre, mainly as a writer. His contribution to The Chronic is actually huge. He also showed Snoop how to structure his lyrics. - Tim Dog was a New York rapper who rose to prominence in the early 90s, and had a track called "F*** Compton" where he dissed the West Coast and N.W.A., which led to Dre and Snoop dissing him back. - Kurupt is half of the duo Dogg Pound. The other member, Daz, is also featured on The Chronic, and is a revered producer as well. Their debut album, Dogg Food, is considered a G-funk classic. Kurupt has also some solid solo albums. I suggest that you react to Doggystyle which works almost as a sequel to The Chronic. I'm also eager to watch your reactions to The Low End Theory and to Hot Buttered Soul!
