EXCLUSIVE: Dad Reacts to J Cole - Crooked Smile ft. TLC

This weeks Patreon exclusive video is dad hearing some Cole! As my dad further's his journey into hip-hop and more modern music I thought that bridging a gap between Cole and TLC would be appropriate.

What are your thoughts on this song and where does Born Sinner rank in Cole's discography?

Lonely People Song by Talib Kweli Lupe fiasco daydream if you want more a catchy popular song. I think you should be a conscious rap theme if you haven’t already. There’s too many to go over I love you covered Common some I really like the cloth by Common that songs pretty

Andrea

Besides hoping one of my songs get picked hehe this song is why I joined the Patreon. I love deep songs and I have a feeling your dad will appreciate this song greatly he’s such a great soul. I know I’m going to enjoy this.

Andrea

Another good one from Jay Cole would be "Middle Child" it's explicit, yet good.

You Guys should review Jay Cole and 21 Savage "A lot" #Str8Classic He won a Grammy for that one.

Angela Faison

Well isn't it Ironic!! I'm not to far from the home Jay Cole grew up in!! This my Guy! Awesome!! #TheVille #FightThePower

Angela Faison

I always thought "on my way down" meant he waiting for her to get ready and she's on her way downstairs so they can go out on a date

Jay Miller

J Cole does look a little like Oshea Jackson Jr. Ice cubes son who is an actor

ebony alburdy

Y’all should do the music video to this song. Will definitely get a different reaction

David Trigueros

I forgot how good this song was! There were some more socially conscious lines on the end. I loved when he said the nationa is a crooked smile even braces couldn’t fix.

Mugiwara La

let nas down + nas' reply would be super cool to see your dad react to :)

Zakariah Mardon

Would love to see Lost Ones reaction, it's a real emotional one at a point where J. Cole was forced to answer some important questions as he was maturing into manhood

Josef Winstone

Possibly. And I’ve got a bone to pick with “Let Nas Down.” 😅 The conflict continues.

First person I've ever seen put The Sideline Story over Born Sinner. You're unique fam.

Chuck

I'd love to see you two cover 2014 Forest Hills Drive. I'm not a huge J. Cole fan, but that album changed my life. It made me a better person in general. January 28th, '03 Adolescence, A Tale of 2 Citiez, No Role Modelz, Hello, the list goes on. Not only are the lyrics amazing, but the production is out of this world. Even the outro, Note To Self, is sonically beautiful. I think this is another tear jerker of an album and I love seeing your dad appreciate the music for what it is.

Alonzo Barber Jr.

I'll look into it! Thanks for getting this to my attention.

Could I maybe encourage yall to have the join button on YouTube? I would much prefer to pay there instead because of how YouTube works on my phone. The UI and listening quality for me is better.

Myspelled

I forget exactly what I said in the video, but I think I was beginning to refer to Black Star as Mos and Talib. Sorry if I misspoke though!

The FrontRoom

did you talk about mos def as he was a group? He's just one person

james moore

I really liked the song when it came out. I'm always happy when he has commercial success with a single. But most of my favorite songs aren't really popular. If I were to rank his albums, the rank changes every year. Right now, Born Sinner is ranked No. 7. And it is not because it’s a bad album. It’s just because he managed to make other really good one. My personal ranking is 1. 4 Your Eyez Only 2. KOD 3. 2014 Forest Hills Drive 4. The Off-Season 5. The Sideline Story 6. Truly Yours 7. Born Sinner.

So glad mos def was mentioned. Cant wait to see you introduce him to your dad. Mathematics is my fav track.
