Dad's Reacts to Bone Thugs n Harmony - 1st of Da Month (Patreon Exclusive)

To follow up Thuggish Ruggish Bone, we thought we should cover another one of their most loved and popular tracks, "1st of Tha Month". This is going straight into my summer playlist for 2023.

I love this song, classic

christopher scott

You guys need to do an album listen for E. 1999 Eternal. One of the best rap albums of all time. Nothing like it.

Jason

You guys talked through most of Bizzys verse & thats who you need to pay attention to the most :(

Leo Herrera

It was also the day when hustlers made a lot of dope money. Dope fiends would cash those checks and buy lots of dope. In turn, hustlers would buy tons of weed and liquor and get smoked out and drunk on the 1st. When you listen to the song from that perspective the lyrics make more sense.

Dev Baty

Great reaction! Glad you guys are enjoying Bone and their uniqueness in both music and style. So many more to choose from and don't hesitate to react to some of the solo work. In particular, you could check out Murda Mo by Krayzie and On the Freeway by Bizzy.

Luni

That’s such a interesting choice (the flame) to use as censoring! Thanks Sheldon.

The FrontRoom

Oh wow, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the insight!

The FrontRoom

Thanks for sharing Jason. I can definitely vibe out to the 1st of the month on a super regular basis, so I’m really glad I found it. Appreciate you watching ✌🏻

The FrontRoom

That’s a really smart thought! That could totally be it. But since Bone Thug’s are very cerebral I was hoping it might be more than that 😂

The FrontRoom

First of the month refers to cashing your welfare checks when you're poor and on welfare; and having that check to look forward to.

David Feliciano

The fire on their heads is actually a remnant of how music videos used to be censored. Back in the day they would blur logos on clothing and hats due to both not wanting to provide free advertising for companies, and some sports teams colors and logos being used by gangs. Bone chose their own way by using the fire instead of just a blur. If you find the original censored video, the flame never leaves Bizzy's head when he has the hat on.

Sheldon Dobbins

Classic Hip Hop track here! Kind of surprised you haven't listened to E. 1999 Eternal Kai. You should definitely give it a shot soon! It's such a fantastic listen. Appreciate the video as always!

Luis Salas

Also can guys should react to a ugk vid! Tell me something good is a good one 4rm early in their career! When they were really young

miss texas

This song is actually abt welfare! cause on the 1st the benefits hit! That's why they kept showing the banker or government showering them w money. In bizzy verse he says his sister went to get the stamps (food stamps) watch the mail make sure no one snatches my check when it came bizzy says he cashed it and went to get weed for 40 duckets

miss texas

In the hood the 1st and the 15th of the month was check/food stamp day. So everyone including drug dealers got paid etc lol . So its a celebration

james moore

You guys should react to “let it all work out” by lil wayne. Best song by him. Trust me

Rileyt888

You gotta show your dad the love below I think he’d enjoy Andre 3000’s half of the album

Runners

The fire on the forehead has religious connotations - tongues of fire Jerusalem

Runners

It’s mainly about drug dealers loving the first of the month because that’s when the junkies get there money to shop with them. Junkies will blow their whole checks on their drug of choice. This used to happen on the 1st and 15th of each month

RedOctober

Love that awkward ass ending lmaoooooo Y’all are a trip

Shawn Cannon

yes sirrrr

Carl

love it! More Bone Thugs please! :)

Carl

Great video! Foe the love of money with Easy E is another great bone thugs song. Also Thug luv ft 2pac.

Orlando

I think John (comment above) is correct in that the banker represents the government distributing welfare payments; just enough to sustain the lives of those who need it while perpetuating the very need of the welfare itself. I imagine that the amount of welfare distributed by the state probably couldn't sustain anybody for an entire month, but it is probably a relief when the 1st comes around just so you have some money for basic needs. Growing up in California in the 80's, I can remember standing in a line at a carwash every month or so for a brick of government cheese. While it wasn't really worth getting up early for, I can in a small way relate to what I think the tenet of the song is. Anyways, great song. I remember the first time I heard it. I was in a Blockbuster Video parking lot in Utah and it blew me away. I think Crossroads was the bigger song but I believe 1st of Tha Month was released as a single first. Thanks guys!

Jason

Yep. And there's a few lines referring to it being a busy day for drug dealers. There's personal loans paid back, just more money flowing around the neighborhood, and people splurging a little bit compared to other days of the month.

Craig Manning

On the album version, the track starts with an alarm clock ringing, then somebody yawning, and then starts into the "wake up, wake up..." . This used to be the alarm I had on my phone and I've found that many others have done the same.

Craig Manning

The banker you are referring to represents the government giving out money every 1st of the month such as welfare checks, I'm wondering if the fire over the beanie is to actually blurr out the logo, in the 90's alot of brands such as the NBA didn't want their logos in rap videos so sometimes they had to blurr the logos out, I'm wondering if this was the case with this video🤔

John Swetman

You'll never go through the first of a month without this song playing in your head atleast once during the day for the rest of your life lol Imagine almost an entire close knit neighborhood getting paid on the 1st of every month. Best believe we used to cookout it was like a ghetto potluck lol

Paul Salvador Estrada

First of the month you get your food stamps in the hood! That’s when you’re at your highest and your richest!

BigHomieAnt

One of my favorites is "If heaven had a cellphone" SO GOOD!

Daniel Svensson

I don't need to say how hype I was to get the notification for this post! I knew you'd both vibe with this track. It's one of their more popular songs, that chill groove teleports me directly to a Cleveland barbecue. Thanks for the moment of nostalgia!

Meesh .

Dad was right, "so cash your cheque and get up". Pay day feels
