UNCUT: DAD LISTENS TO 36 CHAMBERS!!!

Comments

Appreciate your content, can you do Supreme Clientele by Ghostface

Stephen Bunbury

If y’all ever visit Wu Tang again but in there solo ventures checkout Cuban Links first. I say that because Raekwon solidified “Mafioso rap” which was was pioneered by Kool G Rap. Raekwon brought Nas around the Wu tang clan in 95, Nas is considered the unofficial member of the group. What you will notice later on with “It Was Written” Nas mixed Rae’s style into his own. Cuban Links was the first album that was treated it like a movie cause it was Raekwon featured Ghostface Killah, Ghostface was like the costar on the album.

You guys should catch the wu tang series on Hulu I think you’ll appreciate this album a little more after seeing it

there's just so much good 90's hip hop out there. i'm dying for you to react to some jersey stuff like Redman - Tonight's Da Night, or Naughty By Nature - Everything's Gonna Be Alright. Then there's stuff like Big Pun's Capital Punishment album or some Mobb Deep songs.

David Feliciano

Love what you said about the extra intro conversation feeling old-school and I agree 100 percent! Also the only channel I'm a patreon of too! For me it feels so cathartic to go back to my childhood and teenage years and re digest all the music, but now with an adult mind and then on top of that, have these great people forensically dissecting it all in real time with so much open-mindedness, passion and love! Worth every penny to me as its almost like a therapy of sorts!

I literally watched this entire review. Thoroughly enjoyed every second. Please 🙏 always keep the extra intro conversation. Love the interaction that us patrons get to see before the "actual" intro. Quite reminiscent of some of those real intros and skits on the albums. Like a look behind the curtain pre recording. Love it! I've always loved Wu-Tang and when I saw you guys were reviewing it, I thought "uh oh" thinking maybe it would be a bit too nuanced too soon for dad. Once again, he did not disappoint. His open mindedness and curiosity to really understand it and not just blow it off is astounding. Not everyone can do that. It's so awesome to be able to listen and explore different genres for me and it's great to see that. It's comparable to trying a new food for the first time, understanding it's origins further helps you appreciate it. Keep up the good work guys! Still the only channel I am a Patron of! Oh! "Never seen a man cry" -Scarface- Lol. Not even my favorite song, just would really love to hear you react/review it. Yep, I'm persistent.

All of the first solo LPs of each member are outstanding too and dont forget the Wu Tang Forever

Julius

Liquid Swords is my favourite too! Thanks for watching :)

*** EDIT - Another one came to me this morning! O.C - Word.. Life Probably the most overlooked album in hiphop IMO, 1994, same year as Illmatic and a similar vibe, jazzy beats, intelligent lyrics etc. It somehow got drowned out by all the classic releases that year, Ready To Die, The Diary etc. though it belongs alongside them all. I think it's better than Ready To Die personally, but not quite at Illmatic level.(then again, what is?) Small chance even Kai hasn't heard it actually, such is the level it's overlooked when talking about classic hiphop albums. If so a joint first time reaction would be epic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCy4O5EJbNw *** Got a good single track recommendation for you guys - "Handsome Boy Modeling School : The Truth" Full album could be good also, (Handsome Boy Modeling School : So.. How's Your Girl?) it's a 90s/00s underground classic from that whole backpack era if anyone knows what I'm talking about, Atmosphere, Immortal Technique, Non Phixion etc. (Oh man, just had a funny thought talking about albums from that era.. "Necro - I Need Drugs", just imagining a Dad reaction to that album lol) Dad might know Galt MacDermot (RIP) who has been sampled extensively in hiphop, The Truth samples his song 'Coffee Cold', some of the greatest piano ever (one my my all time musical icons personally, absolute genius on keys)

Phil

GREAT REACTION AS ALWAYS! "LIQUID SWORDS" IS MY FAVORITE SOLO PROJECT AS WELL. YOU GOTS TO DO AN ALBUM REACTION! ALSO, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT, CHECK OUT THE KUNG FU MOVIE IT WAS BASED OFF OF- "SHOGUN ASSASIN".

KAZBAAH

You guys should listen to the song "Roughnecks coming " by Bakers of the holy bread, they met some of the Wu-Tang people in Staten Island early nineties before the album. They dropped the single I mentioned earlier in this paragraph in 1993, in Northern Sweden, it's an underground classic over here.

Theo Holmgren

You guys should watch the show its the story of Wu Tangs fight to stay together and get this album made and a deal. Its epic!

Ayeisha Perry-Smith

Ayyyy good choice, gonna watch later today. I predict Dad won't vibe with it tooooo much, it's pretty unique and has a different sound for sure, quite rough around the edges, but still enjoyable and a head nodder.

Phil

Da mystery of chessboxing and C.R.E.A.M are my favorites.

Theo Holmgren

Don't spoil anything, I have 2 episodes left of season 2 😉

Theo Holmgren

Totally agree Craig. It's entertaining all the way through but has some introspective gems tucked in there with C.R.E.A.M. and Tears. What is your favourite track?

The FrontRoom

For me at least, I think this (and similar albums) aren't so much about what the group is saying (not too much deep meaning) as it is about the feeling the listener has, especially when you already know it and can kind of rap along -- it's like a feeling of empowerment. As in you can be in a tough spot or having a rough day, but put this on and before you know it you can also feel like no one can stand in your way, nothing can stop you, and you are the shit! Of course that coincides with the gritty sound of the music overall, too.

Craig Manning

Brilliant, I've just finished watching Wu-Tang; An American Saga! Literally this evening! So this was a great surprise! A nice cherry on the cake! Thanks guys 😄
