Here we go friends! A few rules & reminders:

That's it, so without further ado... Enjoy!

I know you said no corrections... but this one may not be one you catch without binging the story like I'm doing. It is said from Viv's POV that she has never been inside the West center, but when Rei was training with Lennon, they all went there to train so as not to distract themselves or him in the East center. Sorry for breaking a rule, but thought that might have been important and easily missed without a recent reading.

Rainer

Stupid political people who forget Rei is a person they know nothing about. I hope the grandfather comes clean and does not push Rei away permanently.

Carolyne

I'm interested to see whether Sarah takes more after her parents or grandfather in character. I really hope the first time Rei and Sarah meet isn't in a tournament.

Holly

I'm thinking that his sister might end up being the way forward in minding things. At least I'd take that route if I were writing it.

Marcus

That would be interesting to say the least

Marcus

Yeah I hope that it doesn't take the whole book to resolve this situation.

Marcus

He didn't it makes that pretty clear in the last part of the first book and I think it addresses that in the earlier chapters too.

Marcus

Jasper might have fucked this up for Rei and his Grandfather more than helped. Honestly going to Rei might actually have been the move. Would have given him the upper hand and would have let him be honorable and honest about the whole situation. Yeesh. Sooooo much anguish income, I can just feel it.

Munirah Hutchinson

Gramps prolly didn't know till it was too late.

keshav aghera

Honestly i think rei should at the very least get proper answers from a face to face. For the closure at least

Kaleb Young

I would like Rei to take the deal under one condition. Absolutely no contact is allowed from his so called family. For everything Rei had to go through, no way the family gets to save face. Viv is the closest thing Rei has as family and that has only been the past four and a half years. Think of everything he went through alone with no support. Why would Rei want anything to do with them. Grandpa blew his one chance to be honest with Rei. He should have introduced himself and explained he has been looking for him for the past 16 years.

Mark

Holy shit

So I think Grandpa is just trying to make up for lost time the best way he can think to do so, it's a difficult situation for sure. How do you make Rei understand that he was thought to be lost and you want to make up for it? I'm thinking the idea from Grandpa was a slow reveal. However I think, from previous chapters, he sees he clearly screwed that up. On the flip side though, maybe a more practical side, Rei should take this deal because he needs allies and to grow stronger SOON. Just look at the way Central Command screwed with him during the intra-schools. Having a powerful ally that is invested in your success could be just what Rei needs to keep him from completely being at the mercy of the whims of Central Command. Obviously, he has to work through this family issue but at the end of the day there is a lot he could gain and not just financially.

Laurents' are CAD Users. Aradas we haven't heard much about but definitely upper middle class at least. So Laurents' could have big or small connections to Kamiya. Though judging from how they keep erasing themselves from history I would guess they aren't big on corporate donors for CAD Users. They definitely source a ton of equipment for CAD Users use though. So Kamiya is definitely striking a big note. If I am speculating and I am. My guesstimate would be blaming others. While it's clear everyone blames the mother more than the father, the whole situation screams they enable each other on their worst impulses. If they aren't blaming others figure a very convulted story of how Reidon was kidnapped and the kidnappers said they would kill him if they told anyone and blah, blah, blah to try and convince people they didn't dump him. The fact that their story may have holes that semitrucks can drive through is immaterial if they can sell it with enough cash, lawyers and whatever else is needed to bury the evidence to the contrary

Corwin

Not thinking he might look further than just Grandpa being a father? I am thinking even if he just looks at Grandpa and his kids he might see other possibilities. I mean "Dusky" Sally either had Thomas Jefferson kids or his Uncle's depending on your take in history. So he may broaden his look just by the family tree

Corwin

I loved this chapter but I do hate that there's going to be this misunderstanding that's hurting Rei when he didn't do anything wrong I wish the grandpa would have just told him the truth.

Shannon Bryce

Ooooh. I’m so glad that the book jumps right into the meat of the issue. Reidon is too smart a character to not put things together quickly. I do agree that it’s a logical assumption that the contract might be bribe or a bait for control over the situation, not just acknowledgement. It doesn’t ring true when he says that last line.

LaFawn Scott

Not sure Grandpa could have played it straight and won Reidon over folks. That's 18 years of missed birthdays, holidays and all that good stuff. People who are abandoned do occasionally look for their birth parents but not a lot. There is a lot of emotional issues that get tied with all of this. And none of that touches the Financials which are extensive. Having meet estranged relatives there is a gap. Mine weren't even connected as siblings, but aunts, uncles and their kids. As adults kids meeting half siblings is much easier. But we are talking about a Father, Mother and Grandfather. Case in point the Roe Baby in Roe vs Wade. Rarely ever saw or talked with her mother. When Roe died it was a complicated get together between the Roe Baby and her other siblings.

Corwin

I need chapter 8 right now.

Petunia

Exactly. If grandpa had shown up and apologized, Rei would have accepted him. They didn’t expect Rei to put the pieces together. I cannot wait for the next showdown between Rei and his family, whether it is in person or via message.

Petunia

Finally got on this train and holy cheddar bay biscuits! It's not at all unsurprising he'd make that connection, but with the clues laid out, I wonder how many others will. Dent, probably. And Viv's gonna be on the warpath and same with Aria I suspect. That being said, my mind wanders to "how do the Aradas and Laurents make their money, and do they have ties to Kamiya in some way". Because I can absolutely see Aria's mother sticking her nose in for an 'advantageous' connection and it causing a spike fight between the two, even if in just inherit reaction. Also, I am -gleefully- looking forward to the absolutely disgusting meeting/discussion with Rei's sire and dam, where they try to justify themselves. It's very clear they had the money to take care of him, but actively chose not to.

Ridayah Ahnkhuatra

Grandpa's gonna be learning the hard way why you shouldn't use cloak and dagger tactics with your family. Bet if he'd just sent a letter explaining everything and making an open ended invitation to meet, that would have won Rei over much more easily. Now Rei is gonna be all sus. On a lighter note, the interplay between Lennon and his girlfriend was positively adorable.

Sorry
