Community Funding Details and Updates!
Added 2017-10-13 17:07:27 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
Hope everyone is doing good! To give some updates on the community fund - it's been in a freeze at the moment because of the increased costs of everything else, but it isn't gone.
I've got two major updates to note:
- The first one is that the funding has partly gone to a Zotero library (hosted by @ridojiri). In return, anyone who backs this channel is given access to it. It's an online repository of any anime, manga, culture, and theory PDFs and eBooks that can be found online. It's a great resource if you're interested.
- The second one is a tentative funding for translation, which I'd love to get everyone's opinions on. Since this one is a bit more specific, I'd like to get some thoughts from everyone before proceeding. I'll keep this conversation open for a few days, and afterwards I'll proceed (or not proceed) based upon the sentiment I can find. It's a translation request by NachiTsukyo97:
Hi Joe. I am currently in talks with a translator about commissioning a interview translation, which was conducted with Princess Principal’s composers Ryo Takahashi and Yuki Kajiura.(edited)
Here’s the 3 page interview: http://natalie.mu/music/pp/voidchords
高橋諒(Void_Chords)×梶浦由記「プリンセス・プリンシパル」対談 (1/3)
「プリンセス・プリンシパル」が引き寄せた2つの異端
As you can see. It’s exceedingly lengthy and detailed, which means it is a gold mine for a content creator like myself who is decidedly focused on film and game music production and sound design.
But this also means the cost for commission spikes as well.
The quote provided by the translator (note: she’s a good friend and fellow blogger, whom I’ve worked with numerous times before) is a fee of $140 USD. I would like to appeal to your Patreons about covering around half the cost. I am between jobs and this is an unpaid passion project, so I am unable to fork over the whole commission myself.
The intent is to not only spread this information for western fans of anime/manga, and give them more tools to understand the creative side of a severely under-explored segment of animation production
But for me to continue work on massive projects, like the 15000 word Joe Hisaishi/John Powell exploration last year with more reliable and diverse resources
For the remaining half of the cost, I’m looking to see if I can work with another content creator(s) who willing to co-fund this translation with me as well. They will receive producer credit alongside the collective Pause and Select Patreons and the final product will be posted on my blog, available for free.(edited)
I really hope that you and your Patreons are willing to delicate a segment of the pause and select funds to make this project a reality.
I'm thinking of saying 'yes', but as my patrons, lemme know your thoughts!
