This was insightful and relevant as always. You definitely hit the nail on the head when it comes to UX design in tech, and as a designer myself, I know it's true that everything is intentionally created to capture the most attention possible because that's what you're tasked with. I think many designers are tricked by that notion that technology is neutral, which is ironic considering that many of them come from a background of industrial design which focuses on how every detail of a physical product has meaning and intention behind it. There's a pervasive feeling in the design field that somehow we're above the politics and constraints of society and if we just use our rational mind to create things (tools, services, etc.) we can do no harm. Design schools are slowly getting better at calling these things out but it's painful to see my peers and my field so unaware of their responsibility and it was so refreshing to hear your perspective on it.

Thanks, Brad. Nice seeing Adam Curtis in the references, as you feel like a spiritual successor. This is one of your best yet

That was excellent, particularly the bit of hope at the end—one I've been thinking about frequently over the past year: why don't we all just walk away? Thanks, Brad.

Another great video!

You oughta consider making feature length docs

Bradam Curtis! Love it. Seems like it is time to socialize technology and put Silicon Valley in the crosshairs: https://techaction.nyc/

It's funny how you name-drop crucial pieces of socio-political philosophy at what seems to be a video aimed at the common joe. The spectacle. Historical Materialism. etc... this is great though, these videos feel like the airbag deploying right before your head smashes into the steering wheel, the reality.

Great and thought provoking stuff. It would probably feel self-indulgent to do, but I think your videos earn some kind of an reflective musical outro where the viewer is left to sit back and take in the ideas for like 30 seconds.
