Led Zeppelin III was always my favorite album from them, right along with Physical Graffiti. Although not my favorite song off the album, they were always trying something new. Normally I skipped this song... Loved the reaction

I could tell straight away by your face, Justin, that this song was not exactly a winner for you! I am not claiming this is anywhere near my favourite song by the band, but I think Led Zeppelin did quite well in trying to achieve the feel and sound of a scratchy old 30s blues recording. It can be irritating listening to a piece like this on headphones, when the production is panned hard left and right. It works a little better through speakers.

Like the guitar picking, but like you, I agree the production and vocals are distracting. I do like most of this album because it shows Zeppelin wasn't afraid to go out on a limb with a completely different sound from their first two albums and most of it works but not this so much.

That's ok, you're allowed to be wrong. :-P

I really hated this song for a long time, but after I got into country blues from the 20s and 30s like Bukka White and Furry Lewis I came to appreciate it a little more, though it is not a particularly strong interpretation of "Shake 'Em On Down" and the hard panning is totally unnecessary.
Roy Harper has had a long career and released a couple dozen albums, but he is probably best known as being the singer on Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar".
