McCartney writing a beautiful Parisienne Left Bank melody to impress art student friends at parties as a teenager and then, years later, turning it into a proper song when they needed material for Rubber Soul. I don't know if you read the Wiki article in full afterwards, but there was no real-life Michelle. McCartney asked the wife of a friend who was a French teacher to come up with a French name and a phrase that rhymed with it. It was his friend's wife who came up with "Michelle, ma belle", and a few days later McCartney asked for a translation of "these are words that go together well". A beautiful, deceptively simple melody with a gorgeous bassline.

Yes, the walking bass line is great! The guitar has the tone of McCartney's solo song "Heart of the Country"

Such a beautiful melody and chord sequence! An absolute classic! There have been many covers of "Michelle", with British crooner, Matt Monro's, being one of my favourites.

The Beatles do French Cafe music. Sweet and lovely and that bass line is sublime.
