Rolling Stones- Gimme Shelter REACTION AND REVIEW

Rolling Stones- Gimme Shelter REACTION AND REVIEW

Comments

Oh, I loved this one, Justin. This is a stone-cold classic that’s been in so many movies…it’s about Vietnam, baby. You cannot imagine that time if you didn’t live through it. Ominous and spooky and yes, you can feel the pressure. Bravo! 👏

Sarah Toga

Merry Clayton steals the whole damn song.

Greg Mussio

Hence the documentary of the same name. Worth seeing. The local cult movie theater at the time sub-titled it, quite understatedly, "Bad Day at Altamont."

ChasBeauregarde

I always associate this song with the tragedy that was the Altamont Free concert in December of 1969. It was the antithesis of Woodstock. Historians equate Altamont with the ending of the peace and love movement that characterized the sixties. The summer of love gave way to the winter of discontent.

Definitely you should continue with this album. It's one of their gretatest albums. But, if you have forget it, some years ago you were listening to their masterpiece, Exile On Main Street. An album you could go back to. I'd love it. Thanks for this great reaction to this wonderful song, one of the best of all time.

Merry Xmas Jen!

A great album. Released a month after I was born. I wouldn't know it though - because my parents weren't into music like this. I always liked the Rolling Stones but working in dive bars in my twenties pushed me deeper into their catalogue. Merry Christmas Justin!!!

Merry Xmas Michael!!!

We are at the ingress of a cultural renaissance, of which you play an important part, and that will make the other cultural renaissances pale by comparison… such is the multiplicative power of the Internet, Social Media, and A.I. It is a Mandelbulb of creation—expanding outward into ever more profound dimensions, each layer revealing new possibilities for human collaboration, ingenuity, and wondrousness. This unique trifecta—technology’s neural-like webs, society’s digitally fused communities, and machines’ exponential learning—amplifies our collective ability to turn dreams into realities faster than ever before. We’re witnessing a collision of art and science in the public square, one in which each discovery sparks a hundred more. Stories, innovations, ideas, and inventions no longer trickle out; they rocket ahead, propelled by a global chorus of voices, some with the power of Mick's singer's barbaric yawp. Such exponential growth begs us to embrace the moment with boldness. We are called to shed inhibition and push beyond conventional boundaries—challenging ourselves to imagine solutions as complex and beautiful as the fractal patterns that inspired the very notion of infinite creativity. Let us seize this moment, become stewards of our collective potential, and forge a future as luminous and expansive as the technology that drives it, together, each generation adding their own unique talents. A coffee toast to great fathers. Merry Christmas y'all.

The film is "Gimme Shelter" by the Maysles Bros (the guys responsible for most of the "Beatles '64" footage). Dude didn't deserve a beating by the Angels, but who brings a gun to a concert?!? (Also, see the Weather Prophets' 1988 song "Well Done Sonny", referring to Charlie Watts' off-the-cuff remark from that film as he listens to Sonny Barger, the leader of the Hell's Angels, passing off responsibility.)

Joe Turner

Great tune -- check out the film of the same name, covering the subsequent tour and Altamont disaster. (Also, 'niche' is pronounced "neesh", as it's French, dontchaknow.)

Stones best song IMO. Still so powerful nearly 60 years later

Stephen Colligan

One of my top 5 RS tracks. Love it.

Saturninebear

One of their best songs but I can't hear it without seeing the footage of the guy stabbed to death by bikers at one of their contests.

Maruad

I’m not a huge Stones guy, but this album is great, absolutely worth continuing with. Probably their best.

Sylvan

One of the best songs of the 60’s and my favorite Stones song! Jagger’s “wooh” while Merry is singing is one of those spontaneous gifts that only music can give

John Ramsell

One of my favorite Rolling Stones songs. Oh and MERRY CHRISTMAS Justin!
