Electric Light Orchestra- Standin' In The Rain REACTION AND REVIEW

Comments

JP, thanks for getting into ELO, love Jeff Lynne and love your comments and analysis as well! I just took a path down memory lane to revisit ELO 2, from 1973, the probably strangest and definitely darkest album in the ELO catalog. ELO 2 found Jeff at his most adventurous and I'd love for you to check out "From The Sun To The World (Boogie No. 1)". It's 8:17 of truly head on mix of rock and classical, with no orchestra yet at that point, just the two cellos and the violin doing the string parts. It long, it's kinda weird and it's absolutely gorgeous. The 2003 remaster brings out all the details and makes me wonder, what on earth was going on in Jeff's head at that time...

JP you were right in when you said this song was what you would expect with a band name Electric Light Orchestra. In my opinion this is the best side of an album period and it perfectly shows off the culmination of what the ELO sound was suppose to be with 4 phenomenal songs in a suite! When I was a kid, I used to listen to this side of the vinyl album to put me to bed!!! Just amazing! You should do the whole side!

Jp listen again to the thunder in the intro. It says Concerto for a rainy Day!!

This whole side is a suite that really is great if you play all the tracks together :)

Chris

Great track and nice 1st reaction. I believe the scary rainy vocoder utters the line ‘concerto for a rainy day’. It’s funny tongue in cheek btw to name an album Out of the blue when it is a double album with from start to finish very strong songs
