I remember South Park paroding him. It was sickening to watch to say the least. But I enjoyed it.☺️

2024-12-07 01:05:31 +0000 UTC+1 to Mike and Jennifer re the EP. It has (maybe) the definitive version of Bad and the other three tracks are very strong. Love it so much.

2024-12-01 02:19:27 +0000 UTCI LOVE that EP. I played it to death in the mid-80s. Bad and Love Comes Tumbling are all time favorites - though all four songs are great.

2024-11-29 00:14:24 +0000 UTCOne more comment on this album. "Bad" is such a stunning, inspired, piece of work. Morbid as it may be, this is the song I'd play at my funeral (God forbid) - "If I could throw this lifeless lifeline to the wind Leave this heart of clay See you walk, walk away Into the night And through the rain Into the half-light And through the flame If I could through myself Set your spirit free, I'd lead your heart away See you break, break away, into the light, and to the day." -- This is a song of spiritual transcendence. I think all great artists acknowledge on some level that while there is talent, artists are also a vessel channeling something bigger than themselves. In the movie Amadeus - the character of Salieri is referring to this concept when he describes the way Mozart writes music. Anyone who loves music should see Amadeus. As others have said, the Wide Awake in America EP is one you should really listen to. Live versions of Bad and A Sort of Homecoming are the definitive ones and the other two tracks The Three Sunrises and Love Comes Tumbling are so beautiful - the second of those two I played on endless repeat in the mid-80s.

2024-11-29 00:11:08 +0000 UTCI had abandoned U2 after WAR. Only returning to them 20 years later. I have not heard this album. I'll give it a shot. I love Horchata. I can get it at our local 7-11. I've also got the powder to make at home.

2024-11-26 08:02:06 +0000 UTCGreat album and another great reaction. Still, not one of my favorite from them. But a different look at the band's music. Very unique sound and atmosphere, as you said. Not perfect at all, but with some amazing stuff inside. I agree with you that Wire is fantastic and an usually underestimated track. I would suggest for another great an atmospheric album you check Zooropa. In my opinion, an overlooked U2 gem (if not a masterpiece). Cheers!

2024-11-21 18:29:20 +0000 UTCThe Unforgettable Fire (song) is interesting, when the album was released it had a video that played a lot on MTV, yet the song itself was not a radio hit. Notice the song doesn't turn up on the US charts, perhaps not even released as a single here - I can't remember. Unusual a video would get airplay for a song radio stations weren't really playing. You haven't played Promenade yet - it's another song I'd forgotten until hearing the album again recently. I loved it then and I love it now. How did I live without a copy of it for the last 30 years? I was just turning 15 when Unforgettable Fire came out - and not a great time in my life. This album was a great spiritual comfort. Bono's singing is beyond singing - he's literally channeling something that is nothing short of divinity. I think people were divided on this album at the time. They'd been a very successful band in an alternative space where fans had more access to them and this record shot them into arena rock, prompting cries of "sell out." I disagree. War sounded exactly like it's title. Stripped down, running in the streets, grab what you can and go. Just like you'd imagine life during wartime, there's an immediacy and urgency to every song. Unforgettable Fire manages to keep the core of their sound and expand on it, deepen it.

2024-11-21 08:05:14 +0000 UTCSo funny because maybe 2 months ago or less I snagged a copy of this album on vinyl at the used record store. Can't believe I got a copy for 6.00! I had this album for ages on cassette as a teenager and had been listening to their double album greatest hits on CD since. So I was getting reacquainted with this record the past two months! I LOVE this whole first side. Doesn't A Sort of Homecoming sound like a precursor to Where The Streets Have No Name? A song I honestly don't like as much as Homecoming. Wire is just magnificent. It's not, honestly, a track that will show up on their greatest hits. It does make me think of Bullet The Blue Sky - which IS a popular song they play live. I like them both.

2024-11-21 07:39:08 +0000 UTCThis is a gateway album for my life. I was 14 years old, my first U2 album, and the first album that showed me that there was other music out there besides Top 40. Still holds up today. I wish U2 hadn’t forgotten what made them special

2024-11-21 03:53:08 +0000 UTCEasily my favorite U2 album. Atmospheric, as you pointed out, Justin! This album came out when I was 18, and the last time I had heard ambience like this was on Peter Gabriel's Security.

2024-11-20 17:09:03 +0000 UTCGreat reaction/review, Justin! It was nice to listen to this album again. I was a big fan of U2 back in the 80s, but by the end of the 90s I had fallen out of love with the band a little. I think that "The Unforgettable Fire" is an album full of atmosphere and some great songs! In 1985, I got to see U2 perform live, some of the songs from this album, at the "Longest Day" concert at Milton Keynes Bowl. Sorry, Justin, I didn't try your drink - just a very weak cup of coffee and two shortbread biscuits for me!

2024-11-19 20:53:26 +0000 UTCI used to live in San Diego and got Horchata all the time. Now that I'm in PA, it's hard to find....though I did make a BUNCH of it for a dessert party a couple years ago, and it was bangin! Anywho, some thoughts... Wire is one of my favorite U2 songs - so weird with a great energy! Bad -- they made a live EP called "Wide Awake in America" with an amazing live version of Bad that is well worth the listen. It's a little different than the studio, but it's the version that got radio play at the time. (This EP also has a good live version of Homecoming). You should listen to their next album - The Joshua Tree. It really picks up where this one left off. I was surprised to learn that U2 continued with Eno/Lanois for most of the rest of their career. Eno really gave them the sound that defined U2, because Unforgettable Fire is markedly different than their first couple albums. Great video, Justin! Cheers! :)

2024-11-19 18:54:19 +0000 UTCI live in Mexico and can grab an horchata across the street. Very spoiled. My favorite song is Bad. Nice reaction JP.

2024-11-19 17:20:00 +0000 UTCGreat video Justin. This is my second favorite U2 album, even though it contains my two favorite songs by them. The high points are super high, but it has some low points which you mentioned in the video. Overall it bridges nicely from War to The Joshua Tree, and the Eno contributions work well to achieve this. And BTW, I have not made horchata today.
