Our World (Original Lyrics draft)
Added 2019-12-30 01:32:10 +0000 UTCOur World, before I decided to make it lo-fi, was supposed to sound a little more pop rock-ish. Though I use genre as a way to express the song further, I just didn't find any connection with it, so I chose to do lo-fi instead. Because of the difference in style, however, the lyrics and the structure of the song also drastically changed.
Here's the original draft:
Come on out to the rain
It's warm and cozy, poison-hazy
Made of the chemicals they smoke away
Pretend that none of it rots our brains
Come on out to the fog
Let's find Atlantis, play as witches
Push on the tire-swings as sticks and strings
Build the faith of the smallest things
This is the world they left us
It's broken and bleeding
But we see that in the mirror every day
And aren't you tired of always saying
"The seasons change but my life always stays the same, stays the same."
Endless garden fences in your way
But this is our world
It's cruel and ugly but we're still kicking
Alive and breathing
Yes, this is our world
My shoes are worn down but I'm still walking
I won't get anywhere otherwise
And we've all heard this song play
Again and again and again and again
But we'll sing it again, once again and then again
To the end
Though steel may break or bend
Still, we stand hand in hand
'Cause this right here is our world
Come on out to the streets
The kids are singing
Hands outstretched up to the sky
The cars are burning
People screaming
To a siren lullaby
We could burn this all down
And start again
Rebuild the world like we're royalty
But that's naivety by impulsivity
A boy king's dream pushed on by cruelty
Yeah, this is the world they left us
It's dying and pleading
And they'll just tell us to go away
Until our wrist wounds have scarred and turned grey
But when they hit you with the venom
You sing their words back at them
From the foot of heaven's staircase
"We'll never let them take us alive!"
But this is our world
It's cruel and ugly but we're still kicking
Alive and breathing
Yes, this is our world
My shoes are worn down but I'm still walking
I won't get anywhere otherwise
And we've all heard this song play
Again and again and again and again
But we'll sing it again, once again and then again
To the end
Though steel may break or bend
Still, we stand hand in hand
'Cause this right here is our world
They will say that War will come
They will say that Famine's struck
They will say that life is choked with poison and bodies come undone
They will say that unforgiving Death will stand and wait for us
But we're not children
We knew that from the start
And this is my world
It's cruel and ugly but I don't have to be
Yes this is my world
I can turn a palm to loev and sympathy
And this is my world
There's so much more to it than jaded hollow apathy
But that's all up to me
But this is our world
t's cruel and ugly but we're still kicking
Alive and breathing
Yes, this is our world
My shoes are worn down but I'm still walking I won't get anywhere otherwise
And we've all heard this song play
Again and again and again and again
But we'll sing it again, once again and then again
To the end
Though steel may break or bend
Still, we stand hand in hand
'Cause this right here is our world
