Spaces'verse
Added 2016-12-30 09:00:00 +0000 UTCThe Spaces in Between and The Restaurant at the Corner of Frisk and Chara's shared Voidspace are a part of Spaces'verse, which isn't really an AU but more of a headcanon, that whenever Frisk or Chara reset, they stay in this Void for a little while, until they actually reset and get back into the real world.
The Void is easily manipulated, and given that Frisk and Chara have been in the Void for centuries, since every time Frisk dies (even of old age, after they've escaped the Underground), time resets, they're both able to bend the space to their whim. It's easier to recreate memories, but if they wish to create something original, they are able to.
Frisk, in this universe, is very tired of everything in general, especially since even though they manage to get out of the Underground and become Ambassador of Monsters and everything, time still resets back to when they first fell in the Ruins once they die. They have tried nearly whatever they could tink of to spice it up - living with Toriel, eating only one type of food during a run, staying in Snowdin, becoming Mettaton's co-star, jumping into the CORE, inheriting the Underground after Asgore adopts them, etc., etc. Since it just resets, sometimes they just stay in the Void for however long.
Chara, in this universe, is similarly bored, but just doesn't care about anything at all, because if they did, they'd be depressed too, and they and Frisk's shared body can only have one depressed occupant at a time. They spice things up whenever they can - they try a pacifist run, try a neutral run, kill Flowey from the start, befriend Sans (much to Sans' uneasiness, because he can tell the difference between Chara and Frisk), became the Ambassador of Monsters, led protests on nearly everything (animal rights, equality, pride, Donald Trump), became Supreme Overlord of the World Government via sleeper agents (Frisk actually had fun on that one), became a famous musician, became an assassin, etc., etc. Sometimes they get tired and sleep during a run and let Frisk run the body without hindrance.
Both of them have come to a semi-harmonious state of co-existence at this point, and just hang around the Void whenever they get tired of having to do another loop.
They haven't tried making up their own adventures in the Void (they totally can if they want), but hopefully, they will. It's a lot more fun than normal LARPing because they can actually bend the world to their will.
In this universe, they're actually millenia old, but because of the continuous resets, they usually just end up as the same age they were when they fell into the Underground (or when they died, on Chara's end). They've pretty much become unconventional best friends, especially with the longevity of their existence and the fact that they only have each other as support. Sans, although he remembers every loop, doesn't really count, since he hates half of the duo.
As per my usual headcanons, they both have red eyes and Chara stands a foot tall over Frisk. Also, for some reason, I imagine Chara with a British accent and I don't know why.
Some of the monsters and humans they interact with have vague senses of deja vu (especially if they repeat things over and over in their loops), but other than that, nobody except Frisk, Chara and Sans really remember that the world has been looping for more than thirteen thousand times. Neither Frisk and Chara have found a solution to this dilemna either, although Frisk would like one. Sans would definitely like one. Chara doesn't really care.
They should both engage in a LARP in the void though, because the possibilities are endless.
The concept of Spaces'verse is based on OFF's own Nothingness, where the Puppeteer and the Batter retreat to whenever they have to travel between Zones. Before they actually get to a Zone, they stop in the Nothingness and decide where they go to. The same concept is with the Void, except instead of Space, Frisk and Chara choose Time. They can access any point in time as long as they have lived through it.
The Void also symbolizes the player's own space from where they play Undertale. Every time they disengage from the game and choose to do something else, they are in their own 'Void', the space from which they stop and do something other than a series of scripted events they've probably gone through for more than one loop. Frisk and Chara are the 'players' in their universe.
I also love reality-bending characters, and already have a handful of characters who are able to bend the world to their will (but are unaware of it) and wanted to explore it with Chara, because I love Chara, especially if it's a sassy Chara.
Theoretically, they can actually do anything once they're in the real world - they can choose not to go through the series of events they think they're supposed to do and do something else. Like, per se, upon falling in the Underground, attempt to scale the walls to get out of the crater. They're just convinced that this is the way things have to go, and have only been daring a few times (Chara mostly).
The reason why I am putting up the informatin for Spaces'verse is because I wrote this au during my decline of interest in the Undertale fandom, and despite the thought put into it, I cannot bring myself to continue it anymore, even if it's just a series of drabbles without actual plot.
If anyone wants to have fun with the AU, they're welcome to, as long as credit is given and they link back. Or else we're back to another mess again.
The Spaces in Between started as a comedy called '100 Things Chara wants to do before Resetting' that became an unfinished thing. The Restaurant at the Corner of Frisk and Chara's shared Voidspace is a snippet of one of hundred things Chara would love to do.
And there is, in fact, a constant restaurant in Frisk and Chara's void, because they both like the reprieve and the phantom food.
