Chapter 20: The Ever-Positive Angel Is in Charge of the Magical Girl's Mental Care

That night.
Seo-ah and I decided to spend our last night lying together in one bed.
Well… to be honest, we always sleep in the same bed anyway, so it wasn’t anything particularly special.
“Good night.”
“Yes, sleep well.”
As always, we exchanged our usual goodnight greetings and closed our eyes.
But for some reason, I couldn't fall asleep even as time passed.
Was it because of the thought that tomorrow would be our last day?
Or was it thanks to catching up on rest by sleeping in late this morning?
Either way, I had to spend some time lying awake with my eyes open, unable to fall asleep.
I knew I should sleep now for tomorrow, but my body refused to cooperate with my thoughts.
In the end, I simply stared blankly at the ceiling, waiting for sleep to take me.
And apparently… the same went for Seo-ah.
“Sarah. Are you awake?”
Hearing a voice from the head of the bed, I gently lifted my head to look up, and my eyes met Seo-ah's.
“You’re not sleeping either, huh.”
“Looks like you’re still up too, Seo-ah.”
“Maybe it’s because today’s the last day, but I just can’t fall asleep.”
“What a coincidence. Me too.”
Since we had already finished talking about it earlier in the day, Yoo Seo-ah didn’t ask me to stay longer or plead for just one more day.
She just chuckled at my words and nodded her head.
“Shall we chat for a bit then?”
“Sounds good. I actually had something I wanted to ask.”
Something to ask? Hadn’t we already talked about pretty much everything?
As I wondered, Seo-ah looked at me and asked:
“Once you leave this city, where are you planning to go?”
At that question, I let out an exclamation, "Ah."
Until now I had only said I was leaving, but never mentioned where I was going.
“I’m thinking of heading to City C, where Magical Girl Blue is.”
As soon as the name Blue came out, Seo-ah made a sharp sound like someone eating something spicy and sighed deeply.
“Why are you going to Han Soyu of all people…”
Han Soyu.
That was the name of Magical Girl Blue from the original story.
“You know her?”
I blinked and asked, since they didn’t really have any notable connection in the original story.
Seo-ah gave me a long look, pondered for a moment, then sighed and pulled me into her arms.
“Of course I do. I’ve been a magical girl for 10 years, you know. How could I not?”
10 years? I didn't even know that.
Wasn’t it 8 years?
‘…Ah, right. She said the battle with the humanoid monster happened 8 years ago.’
Realizing that belatedly, I closed my mouth again and asked a different question.
“If you know her by name, then you must be pretty close, right?”
“If you call it close… I guess. We were elementary school classmates, after all.”
“If you went to the same elementary school and same class, wouldn’t that make you close?”
“We were just vaguely familiar, enough to know each other’s face and name. And the last time I saw her face was over 5 years ago… So there's not much of a relationship to speak of.”
“Over 5 years? You haven’t met even once since then?”
Given her sharp reaction earlier, I started wondering—did the two of them have a falling-out?
But what came out of Seo-ah’s mouth was far from what I expected.
“It’s not that we didn’t meet… it’s that she locked herself up and never came out, so I couldn’t meet her. Well, even if that wasn't the case, we probably wouldn't have had much reason to meet anyway.”
“Locked herself up? But from what I’ve seen, she’s still fighting monsters and doing her duties as a magical girl…”
“She just uses the drones she made herself to maintain public safety. She hasn’t made a public appearance in years. Like I said, the last time I saw her was over 5 years ago… so it’s been nearly 6 years now that she’s holed up at home.”
I blinked at the number that was far beyond my expectations.
Not 2 or 3 years, but 6 years not leaving the house?
“Was there some kind of serious accident, perhaps?”
“Well… something like that.”
Yoo Seo-ah replied in a reluctant tone.
“Something happened. Something really complicated.”
What on earth could possibly have happened to turn a magical girl into a hikikomori?
Was it aftereffects of an accident? A serious injury that prevented her from going outside?
…Damn that author. Always dropping hints without properly explaining anything, leaving me with nothing to go on.
I sighed inwardly and opened my mouth.
“Can I ask what happened?”
After hesitating for a moment, Yoo Seo-ah sighed and hugged me.
“I don’t know the details either. There was a big incident about 6 years ago, and after that, she shut herself in. That’s all I know.”
“A big incident… Do you remember what kind of incident it was?”
Yoo Seo-ah gave a bitter smile and shook her head.
“Honestly, I don’t remember. Back then I was overwhelmed just dealing with my own problems that I didn’t have the time or energy to worry about someone else. Sorry I can’t be of more help.”
“Mm, no, it’s okay. This is already more than enough. Thank you for telling me.”
“I’m glad if it helped.”
Yoo Seo-ah hugged me tightly and gently rubbed her cheek against mine.
“…Be careful, okay? That girl, the last time I saw her, she looked in really bad shape.”
Coming from someone like Yoo Seo-ah, who was practically a walking corpse at one point…
To hear her say someone was in bad shape?
That’s almost unthinkable.
I blinked at her absurd words.
How far gone must someone be for Seo-ah to describe them like that?
Instead of leisurely lying here, should I be flying off to Blue right now with a big hug and give her all the love and praise, saying “aww, there there, our sweet magical girl, you did so well, come here and let me pamper you”?
…Of course, that only stayed in my thoughts and I didn’t say it out loud.
After all, bluntly saying something like “It's really worrying to hear you say that when you were nearly dead yourself” would be way too rude.
“Yes. I’ll be careful.”
In the end, this was all I could say in response.
Once our curiosity was satisfied, Seo-ah and I chatted about trivial things until we fell asleep.
***
Since time doesn’t stop just because we don’t want to say goodbye, the next day arrived.
Where there’s a meeting, there must also be a parting.
Yes, it was finally time to part ways.
“Take care of yourself. And if anything happens, make sure to contact me.”
“Okay. But… don’t we not actually have a way to contact each other?”
“Ah… You’re right.”
Scratching her head, Seo-ah muttered something like maybe giving me a spare phone as she started rummaging through her drawers.
After a moment of thought, I decided to grant me a new ability.
“Seo-ah.”
“Hm?”
“Can you come closer for a moment?”
As Seo-ah stepped over with a puzzled expression, I lightly kissed her forehead.
Smooch—
“Wh-Wh-Wh-What…! What are you doing?!”
I smiled softly at her cute reaction as she backed away quickly with her face turning bright red.
“It’s a gift!”
“A g-gift…?”
“Now, if you think of me and call my name, I'll appear anytime, anywhere!”
Can’t contact me? Don’t have a way to reach me?
Then isn’t it fine to just meet and talk directly?
Getting back might be a problem, but with this, I’ve secured a way to stay in touch, so—success!
“Hehe, what do you think?”
As I spoke, Seo-ah absentmindedly touched her forehead, then opened her mouth.
“Um, c-can you explain that one more time?”
“If you think about me and call my name, I’ll come to you, no matter where or when. It’s not hard! You just have to think of me while calling my name.”
“Sarah.”
“Hehe, I’m right in front of you right now, though.”
“Ah, true.”
She gave a wry smile, then after a pause, spoke again.
"Just one more time. Can you do it again?"
I blinked at her careful, almost shy request.
Did she mean the explanation?
‘Was my explanation that hard to understand?’
Did she get hit with the classic melee-fighter syndrome of having more muscle than brain?
Did she end up training her muscles so hard that her brain got caught up in it too?
No, that couldn’t be it.
“If you call my name—”
“No, not that.”
She interrupted me, smiling playfully and gently tapping her forehead.
“Ah, I can do that much for you!”
I'm not doing this with any bad intentions!
I'm agender anyway so I have no sexual desire, and outwardly we're both women, so it's okay, right!
What about the me who used to be a man, you ask?
The me who used to be a man agrees too, so what's the problem?
What idiot would refuse when a cute and pretty girl asks for a kiss?
With angel, body, and mind all in unanimous agreement, I approached to kiss her forehead.
Just as I was about to...
“You seduced me first.”
“Huh?”
Seo-ah's hands gently cupped my cheeks, and she lifted her head.
Chu...
A moist sound, different from the dry sound of lips touching a forehead.
A soft, warm temperature touching my lips.
“...!?”
Now it was my turn to be surprised.
I was so shocked I almost forgot I was floating in the air and nearly fell to the floor.
Whoosh!
Seo-ah caught me and pulled me into a tight embrace, continuing the kiss.
“Mmph...! Mmm...”
Her tongue slipped between my lips, tapping against my teeth.
Startled, I unconsciously opened my mouth, and her tongue entered deeper.
I twisted my body to escape, but with one arm around my waist and her other hand pressing the back of my head, I couldn't get away.
“Chup... Hah, chu...”
Pop, pop, pop.
Small sparks flew in my head.
Seo-ah's desire for me touched the love inside me.
I wiggled my toes and squeezed my legs together for a moment.
“Hah...”
She released me first.
A silvery thread of saliva stretched between us.
I shuddered at the cold sensation of saliva on my chin, and Seo-ah wiped her own mouth with the back of her hand before using her thumb to wipe my chin.
“Since we won't see each other for a while, it's okay to be a little greedy, right?”
After looking at her in a dazed state for a long time, I covered my face with both hands and nodded shyly.
Seo-ah, you're too much of a player...
On our last day together, both Seo-ah and I made an unforgettable memory.
***
After making an unforgettable memory, I left Seo-ah's house and headed straight for City C.
And then...

“Hehe…”
…I ended up surrounded by hundreds of drones.
How did it come to this?
