Sprinting to the Finish Line

one week (and change) left in the studio for my next album :) It's the end of the week and i have that zonked feeling that comes from a week of deciding which indecipherable vocal take will be the one that gives a song it's *magic dust*. It's the final sprint to the end, most the songs at this point are within a few strides of the end. two of them I'm nervously side eyeing but remind myself you just put one foot in front of the other and that's how you get to any destination. There's a temptation at this point in the process to bail, where earlier parts were all about dreaming and possibility, now more and more of it becomes permanently etched in stone and you wonder "is this... going to work? is it going to be great?" it feels easier to drift away and just decide that it's good enough. but i know from past experiences that it really is that last 10% that makes something exceptional. so i just keep taking steps!

This week we got to track drums with my friend Mike, there were two songs I knew programed drums weren't going to cut it. I wanted that real drum feel. I can't wait for you to hear it, Cottage Song was brought to life in a way I always knew it could be! I'm grateful for the moments of pushing through and finding the *thing* that brings a song to life. Also feeling grateful that 5 years after recording Bad Ideas (2017!), I now have so many musical friends I love and can ask to play on the album.

but most of all tonight feeling so grateful for all the encouragement and support I receive from you all. Tonight I feel a little shaky in my confidence and it's just really nice to see all the support online. I'm looking forward to exiting my cocoon i've been in for the last year working on this album (tho i guess i did squeeze in two tours haha so it's not nothing), and get to bring you something new :) a whole new project!
