Fear him or be in Awe

Jaune is set to clash with the students of Shrine Academy.

With his skills on display and enraged by the thought of his Grandmother trying to separate him from his family, Jaune will surely put on a show.

He wants to send a message.

But how will it be received?

Fear- Jaune has abilities that defy all reason in Remnant; his skill and strength are customarily attributed to Huntsman, who have Aura to wield. But Jaune has not yet had his unlocked and seemingly has no wish to do so. Yet his ability is beyond question.

When he shows off his talent to the students and faculty of Shrine Academy, they realise the truth of the monster before them.

Then they wonder what he might become with Aura and fear the Hunter in their midst.

Awe- Jaune is the same age as a first-year student at a PCS, yet his abilities are far beyond their ken despite this. Having fought an Elder Grimm, those at Shrine can do nothing but witness something incredible as Jaune shows off his impressive strength.

They see Jaune not as just an impressive student but as a legend in the making, a modern myth, maybe even as a hero only just embarking on his journey.

When they think of the heights that he might yet reach... they are left only to feel awe.

An interesting dichotomy could be that the students are impressed and in awe because they don't get it. They don't really understand what it means for an auraless person to have the strength Jaune does. Whereas the adults are wary of it because not only would he get stronger with age AND aura, but he has shown to have some debatable morality, while his family knows he would never do anything to hurt an innocent or anything, it could provide interesting conflict to have someone use his past from dealing with his sisters bullies as a way say "this kid is psycho and needs to be watched and/or controlled.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think adding a level of clinicalness to his approach in the sense that he doesn't waste movement or do anything flashy. He has far outgrown the huntsman/huntress superhero fighting style. His style is born of blood and merciless. Every strike delivered is meant to cripple or kill and every hit received means little to him. We've seen his tolerance of pain demonstrated in his broken leg and cracked ribs on his return. Showing off his lack of acknowledgement of his wounds is a great way to generate fear. After all, what kind of monster continues to fight while broken bones pierce out of flesh or large gashes litter their body with not an ounce of acknowledgement to their wounded state.

fear, as thats what he is already used to as hunters are feared in yharnam and outsiders arent respected

Feeling a mix like a subtle layer of fear under their awe. a feeling that he's amazing to watch but at the same time feels a little off. The awe dulled by the scent of the blood and the sea as you've used

A mix of both would in my opinion but more of 70 fear/ 30 awe from the teachers

I think a mixture of both, but a split down student/teacher lines. As you pointed out in an earlier chapter, Remnant is a Death World where violence is common. The students would be in awe (maybe with a little fear of being next) of someone around their age who can fight that well. After all, they're in a school where they are learning to fight monsters and have probably seen aggressive fighting styles before, it's the skill that awes them. The teachers on the other hand? As the phrase "fear the old in a profession where most die young" applies double in Remnant, the teachers would be scared witless. Why does Jaune fight like he is always going for the kill on human(oid) opponents? As you mentioned in an earlier chapter "he fights like a duelist with years of experience". That makes them question what experience he has, exactly. Basically the students don't know enough about the world and fighting to be afraid yet, the teachers do.

We obviously do not know how connected the dream and yharnam are to remnant so ignore any suggestions that would clash with your world building. I see the Jaune fighting other students with a viciousness born of the violence he experienced in Yharnam. However, the students alone should not push him into any real state of distress that would lead to the dream bleeding into the waking world. Fear of Jaune's lack of mercy to those he fights would be a good way of showcasing The Hunter that has been lying in wait while still allowing him to have room to grow. Perhaps allowing the sent of blood and salt to be present in the fight would allude to how stressed he is and his emotional state in the fight. Somewhere down the line, perhaps or in a different setting where his family is threatened or perhaps some of the old blood has found its way into the waking world, we could see The Hunter truly awaken once more while his emotions are high and his mind is strained. Showing dreamborne abilities that no one on Remnant should be able to possess. Allowing a section after this confrontation, where he relaxes in the bath would be fun and intriguing to see the effects of the water on his mind. Since great bodies of water act as bulwarks for things beyond. At least I assume that is why Jaune is so drawn to bodies of water and his calmness on the sea voyage. This work of literature is very well written and you have my praises. I am constantly drawn in by your writing and can tell an immense amount of work is put into your writing. Personal interests of mine are the detailing of others' perspectives on Jaune. Even seeing those with "insightful" ;) eyes or faunas like Arslan being able to tell something is not quite human about Jaune would be great. Especially, with the conflict that could cause since he isn't faunas but clearly shows signs of enhanced senses or even the fact he is not fully human causing others to wonder what is truly going on with him. While I would love to see Jaune cut loose to a degree, I would definitely word caution. We have the prescient that it took an elder level grimm and anothers life to be on the line for him to even show a fraction of the Dream slip through. So I would say that continuing that prescient would keep Jaune more consistent. I highly doubt anything besides direct danger to his family or signs of The Hunt, Old Blood, or The Nightmare showing up would push him to use his more supernatural abilities. Anyway thankyou so much for writing this work. I am absolutely obsessed with Bloodborne and similar works of fiction and art that imbue this sense of what does it truly mean to be human and how does humanity respond to things beyond it. I am beyond thrilled to have a piece of literature actively being worked on that combines Bloodborne, perhaps my favorite universe besides Exandria, and RWBY, which I firmly believe independent fanfiction vastly improves the world building foundation set by Monty Oum that Rooster Teeth made a mess of. My Best to your father and his health. Keep writing and continue to fuel that creative spark. Much love, Matthew

I feel like people should fear the awe he wields. “Fear the old blood” is a saying in yharnam if I recall and since jaune seems to unconsciously evoke the old blood when upset ( like during the family dinner arslan smelled salt and blood without any being present) you could feasibly combine both

clagann

I believe it should be both, but fear should be the bigger of the 2. Jaune winning should be a reason for awe. Jaune dismantling his opponent while not giving a fuck at what is thrown at him? That should be fear.

I hope he comes decked out in weapons even if they have to come from the dream or he locks himself in the Forge in the name of "preparation" and builds them himself. Then we could really see him at his "current" best.

Laplase

I almost think it should be a mix of both
