Flash Art - David Warner

Hello there

After spending the day (yesterday when you're reading this) editing Episode 2 of Loopholes, I decided I was going to do some sort of art in progress post for today's post.

Then I saw that David Warner was away, and started thinking about when I did the Time Bandits portrait (years ago - it took months), and how I'd like to do a portrait of him in that movie.  Which is what I did.  This is a post showing it.

When I first took a punt on Time Bandits in a newsagents video rental section in Sutton, I'd already seen The Omen (definitely too young), but made no connection that this was the same actor.  This was the last time I didn't click though.  From then on I recognised him in every appearance I was delighted to see.  One of the proper classy and authentic ones, eh? Some work legacy there.

A little technical side point, I got some new pens in an art shop at the weekend, which are exactly the same make and model as the ones I always use, but the finest one I've used before was 0.1.  I had no idea that wasn't the finest nib, until I found 0.03 and 0.05 in that art shop.  So this was also a chance to try them out, and I like them a lot.  A crazy amount more control, but with the obvious issue that they take more than twice as long to do pointillism with.  I'm all good with it though, feel like I'm going up a level with them.

This is also one of the times where there's no doubt I'm telling the truth about drawing this on the day I said... was one sitting.  A six hour sitting, but still all in one go.

I'm blabbering aren't I?  Shall we just have a look at the pics? It's 4am here...

Which brings us finally to this fond farewell to the Evil Genius...

Bravo to David Warner.

Hope your week is getting going nicely for you.

Sending much love your way

"they take more than twice as long to do pointillism with". Yes, a passing pedant told me a 0.5 nib will take 4 times and 0.3 nib over 11 times as long as your 1.0 nib. (Love the art)

That Time Bandits fight scene is exceptionally unrecognised as a brutal and frightening thing. Really clangy and raw.

I watched Time Bandits again recently. Sean Connery is really good in it. His best age I’d say. His fight scene is as good as the one at the end of Robin and Marion.
