Solar station project

Here’s a peak at a project I’ve been working on this week.

The rediculously large 545w solar panel I bought whilst on a “food” shop with Joe is finally out of the shed and supplying a whole lot of extra juice.

It’s a stand alone system so can theoretically plug into anything. Ive added a “solar hookup” adaption onto my van and the same will be happening with Emma’s when she gets here.

Today is the first test run having finished in the dark last night and so far very good, roughly an extra 20amps of charge!

There’s a few components I need to pick up to finish/neaten it up but I’m super happy with how this has turned out, especially as barring the solar panel (which itself was bloody good value) the whole thing has been built with recycled, second hand or repurposed parts laying around the shed.

It’ll be a little ways off yet until the video of this but I’m too excited and had to show someone my new thing! 😄

Right, now i’m done fiddling with this, better get back to making this week’s video.

Cya later in the week 🤘

I had the same thought the second I plugged it in 😆 that and cooling. I’ve stuck a mains switch in for now to isolate the panel. The removable control box still needs some tweaking

You might need to add a small motorbike battery or something to the system to maintain the voltage for the mppt when you unhook the van(s) because they don't like being panel only and can damage the charge controller. Otherwise, awesome 😁 slowly start adding more panels as you go until you max out the charge controller 😁
