Gandalf vs Dumbledore has to be up there. You guys were still finding your feet, but the fact that it was so short and was just "Dumbledore gae" didn't help. You guys definitely redeemed yourself with Harry vs Luke, tho, at least for Potterheads, like me. Godzilla vs Kong was also a clunker for me. I liked the lyrics, but the voice and video fx really threw me off of it. Cool that you were willing to experiment. I actually thought Richard vs Ragnar was a clunker, until recently, when I gave it another chance. Had a lot more than I gave it credit for. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think Trump vs Kamala was a clunker. It was a little bit underwhelming, but Trump's first verse is genuinely great. "Get your mug shot, then your mugshot" is just perfect. You guys don't do gun bars often, but when you do, they go hard.

Personally I don't think you can avoid clunkers when you're making art. Just let it happen. That obviously doesn't mean don't work hard on your art, but I don't need to tell you guys that 😊

Not every one’s gonna be amazing but you just gotta create in this time, don’t let it get stale and don’t let the process bog you down, just create, and don’t hold yourself to an insanely high standard. You’ve set the bar you can keep it where it is for a minute.

(tho we can really leave the Hulk one in the past 😬)

2025-01-19 19:40:09 +0000 UTCEllen and Oprah was not a clunker; it was a cringe embarrassment, imo. This was mostly due to the awful performances. Biggest waste of potential was Artists V TMNT. Amazing concept, sick beat, but it was so rushed and felt like everyone was talking over each other. 8 rappers in under 2 minutes just didn’t work.

If you view them as “clunkers,” or even if they’re just older videos back from when the battles weren’t as in depth, and you think there’s more room to explore? I’d love to see a more in-depth take on Shakespeare vs Dr. Seuss.

2025-01-19 19:22:51 +0000 UTCAbout Dracula vs Vlad in particular. I recall Joker vs Pennywise (one of your best) came out just a week later, even though you were doing monthly battles. In that case, you could have just delayed that battle and have JvP fill the spot I understand the old schedule was very taxing for you, and I don't think great videos are worth the price of wrecking your life. I also think your writing has greatly improved since season5 and the greater time between battles shows in the quality. But I think there is a middle ground between a battle a month for eight months, and one battle a year. Maybe a battle every three months is a sustainable schedule? Also have multiple battles at different stages at the time. Then if you feel like a battle is feeling clunker, you put it in the back and pull another one ahead so you don't feel like you're just wasting time. Some battles might just never turn 10/10, and thats ok. it's not worth putting something off forever to try and achieve perfection. I'd rather have a few 8/10 battles than wait forever for a 10 that might not come. Which doesn't mean you should put out something you feel its a clunker, just deprioritize it, if you feel you need time.

My biggest issue with Vlad vs Dracula (while still a really solid battle) is that we lost the opportunity for Vlad vs Ozzy I’m really torn on Artists vs TMNT, too— I love the battle, but I feel like Da Vinci is such a perfect character for ERB and it would’ve been cool to explore him a little more

Speaking of that, as hot as the WWE and wrestling world is rn, a new wrestling battle could go hard. Maybe something like the Bloodline (Roman Reigns, Jey and Jimmy Uso, Sami Zayn) vs the 4 Horseman (the apocalyptic version). There's also a 4 Horseman wrestling group from the 80's/90's (led by Ric Flair) that you could tie into it too.

Harry Houdini was great as well David copperfield, Dracula and Vlad were all missing the key word “EPIC” and I think that’s what needs to be asked before releasing. I also think location backgrounds may work for some characters but the majority of the characters deliver better with the static moving backgrounds instead and I know that impacts a lot of development. Sigmund Freud returning to that type of background was such a win to me for example. I’d personally love more per year delivered with epic beats and lyrics and static backgrounds than being clunkers with really good created backgrounds.

They were never supposed to be perfect, turn a few more out and let the people decide if they’re good or not

I think Batman vs Holmes is a classic mention of one. I think a good way you could possibly avoid clunkers (all be it a risky one) is if you got the Patreon more involved, maybe showing an early demo for feedback or finding someone who is deeply passionate on a specific idea and having them to give feedback alongside the process. Regardless of what you do, I know you'll stay epic! Keep it up guys I love what you do!
