#MakeThisBattle Feedback - March 2nd 2021

It's a new month and it's also a new #makethisbattle day. Always a good day. For this round, EpicLLOYD has been looking into your suggestions. The theme for this one was 'Girls vs Boys' and there were loads of different ideas and actually every match-up selected fit that theme which is a rare event as usually only 2 or 3 match the suggested theme.

Anyway, here are Lloyd's thoughts on the lucky seven selected. :)

======

Jane Austen vs Hugh Hefner [submitted by Belle the Fiend & mblpns]

This is pretty fun. It's always nice to have a match-up where both parties aren't the exact same job or role. I like that the connection is easy to see but Jane is in no way the same type of person that Hugh is. We had thought about doing Hugh Hefner forever and originally he was gonna go up against James Bond.. But then Powers happened. Seems like with the recent popularity of Bridgeton, that Jane Austen would be a nice fit for people who dig that old-time period romance vibe. And then we'd have Playboy bunnies. It's a yes vote.

Maleficent vs Merlin [submitted by KyleHowlett11]

I love this. Maleficent is a dope character and looks amazing. Tons of cool visuals and modern FX tricks to be had. Always nice to have a solid guy vs girl battle. Plus a lady wizard is badass! For Merlin we'd need to find a solid angle to differentiate him from Gandalf and Dumbledore but I think we'd find that pretty easy. Option for a King Arthur cameo too :)

Sailor Moon vs Sun Wukong [submitted by Lemon]

Looking up Sun Wukong right now which is never a great sign but you know it's me so... maybe not so bad. Ok, so he's the monkey king. I have to say he looks pretty awesome but this is some very specific stuff. Sailor Moon is much more familiar to me and I think would be a cool character in a battle for sure. I don't see the immediate connection with Wukong but that is not surprising. I need to learn more about him. Who else against Sailor Moon would be a little more easy for everyone to get?

Aretha Franklin vs Rodney Dangerfield [submitted by Dragonsblood23]

This suggestion gets no R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Marx Brothers vs Bronte Sisters [submitted by J-Star]

I think it's cool to have a trios battle. And a trio of sisters vs brothers seems pretty legit as well. Great curb appeal but sadly I think the pull stops there. I just don't know if the knowledge base of these three women or these three men is deep enough to merit a battle in 2021. Seems as though most people would know the names but not the bulk of the jokes and that will make it a hard nominee to reach the top. This matchup seems better served as like a history class project rather than a full-blown ERB.

Judge Dredd vs Judge Judy [submitted by Shawn Ravenfire]

This doesn't suck. At first it seems like a bit of an eye-roller but there's actually some strong things about this. We've never done the legal system. Albeit Judge Judy isn't the courtroom in a classic sense it does make for a ton of jokes and a really solid visual setting. Connection between the characters is clean but not too obvious that it's uninteresting. A strong older female character is fun too. She's so sassy and memorable. Then you have Judge Dredd who pulls in a lot of the comic book and graphic novel crowd and that's a fun combo. Not bad at all.

Emily Dickinson vs Eminem [submitted by Foxdoc]

Not sure how many times I need to say this but we will never do Eminem. It's a trap. The name alone will grab tons of views but trying to write battle raps for the best battle rapper ever is a lose lose. It'll piss people off if it's done well and piss them off more if it's done poorly. Emily Dickinson is fine but a combo with Eminem just isn't in the cards as far as I'm concerned. Not happening. Sorry.

Monk's Hot Takes - our manager HeadMonk offers some pearls of wisdom!

Can't really argue with Lloyd's logic on Eminem. Whilst I think it would be a lot of fun to attempt portraying him, it probably would be a bit of a train wreck.

I read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte at school. And I didn't enjoy it at all. That kind of period drama stuff has always been popular here in the UK, but I generally avoid it at all costs. Just the words Wuthering Heights or Heathcliff gives me chills. I read that one too.  It's one big area of literature that is a big turn off for me. But, I can appreciate I am maybe not in the majority in feeling this way. So, I am gonna stay open minded on the likes of the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen. Let's see how they poll. If we were to cover the Bronte's, teaming them up with the Marx Brothers - it is certainly a fun concept. Although in my heart I'd personally just feature Groucho Marx on his own.

Aretha Franklin doesn't really do it for me. But, after we've featured Cyrus and Gaga in the past I would rather examine an artist like Aretha, than explore another modern pop singer like Taylor Swift. But, the likes of Bowie, Prince, Dylan trump these options for me in terms of musician types we should consider next. And if we are gonna go the 'pop' angle Madonna has more layers character wise than Swifty has had... oh I can't say that can I. ;)

Maleficent remains a great option if we want to feature a female Disney character. Snow White is up there too. The issue with Merlin would be avoiding it being just another wizard portrayal especially after doing Dumbledore, Gandalf and Potter. But, titling wise Merlin vs Maleficent has a nice ring to it. I dig it.

======

A new round of #makethisbattle is now open.

The theme this round is 'Three's A Crowd'. We are looking for matchup's that could feature a third party (e.g. Jim Henson vs Stan Lee w/ Walt Disney) This might be a trickier task than normal but we have faith you'll come up with some cool ideas!

You can always ignore the theme completely if you prefer. But, when selecting the match-ups for feedback we will select 2 or more suggestions that match the theme.

Same rules apply. Seven match-ups in total will be selected. Three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the Discord server in the dedicated '#make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is... 5pm PT on Tuesday 16th Match
