May Quiz Results - Did You Win?!

Thank you to everyone who entered the most recent quiz. We can now put you all outta your misery and offer up all the correct answers and announce the overall winner!

[drumroll] The highest scoring patron was... Polarprincessa with a excellent score of 13! She wins the  framed piece of concept art from the TMNT vs Artists battle! Well done you!

As Polarprincessa is also a Director tier level patron she's therefore the highest finishing Director patron too - so she also walks away with a second prize - the Julius Caesar book that featured in the Caesar vs Zulu ERB video. Congrats on the double success!

Finally, the bonus random winner this month is FlowerPower who will be receiving a ERB T-shirt, pin badge and wristband. (This bonus prize winner is picked at random just for taking part - their quiz score is unimportant)

Commiserations to everyone else! I wanna give a quick shout out to those of you who were pretty close to scooping prizes... CooperTaunt, TallGiraffe & BusBoy all scored 12. Whilst Thailah Pritchard, Erik Bell, TomasL & BouffTT scored 11. (The average score was 6)

Here are all the answers and explanations - so you can see where you went wrong!

1) Which letter connects the following words: black, thousand and strikeout - is it either B, E, K or M? A) K [In printing "K" stands for "key," as in the black ink plate in four-color printing. The origin of the letter "K" came from the word “Chilioi” in Greek which means thousand. And in baseball score keeping, a swinging strikeout is recorded as a "K"]

2) When spelling numbers which of these has one very specific attribute - four, five, six or seven? A) four [The word four has four letters in it. No other number has this property in English such that the number of letters in the name equals the number]

3) Which of these words has an association to the way we write the alphabet - brittle, skittle, tittle or whittle? A) tittle [A tittle is the small distinguishing mark, such as a diacritic in the form of a dot on a lowercase i or j. So when writing most sentences we are using a tittle!]

4) One specific number connects three of the following directors & actors but who is the odd one out out of Alfred Hitchcock, Rob Zombie, Jason Statham or Antonio Banderas? A) Rob Zombie [Hitchcock directed the 1922 film "Number 13". Jason Statham starred in the 2010 film "13". Antonio Banderas starred in the 1999 film "The 13th Warrior". Whilst the film "31" is a 2016 American horror film written, directed and produced by Rob Zombie]

5) Which writer has a strong connection to the words 'simple', 'softly' and 'littlewit' - H.P Lovecraft, Roald Dahl, Edgar Allan Poe or Mark Twain? A) H.P Lovecraft [During his career Lovecraft used various writing pseudonyms including Humphrey Littlewit, Edward Softly and Percy Simple]

6) Which alcoholic drink is the odd one out - Brandy, Whisky, Champagne or Sherry? (clue: wrath) A) Whisky [Grapes are used in the manufacture of Brandy, Champagne and Sherry. But whisky is made using  fermented grain mash]

7) Which musician or band is the odd one out - Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John or Madonna? (clue: help) A) Bruce Springsteen [The two huge Live Aid concerts took place in London and Philadelphia in 1985. Queen, Elton John and Madonna all performed. But Bruce Springsteen turned down the offer to perform. Bruce has since said that he regretted the decision.  Other folks turning Live-Aid down: AC/DC, Van Halen and Michael Jackson]

8) Which animal is the odd one out - Shark, Cockroach, Crocodile or Lion? (clue: watch) A) Lion [Sharks, Crocodiles and Cockroaches have all been in existence for millions of years. Sharks are 450 million years old and have been on this planet longer than almost any other animal. Crocodiles in roughly the form we know them today have been on earth for about 80 million years, since the late Cretaceous period. The earliest cockroach-like fossils are from the Carboniferous period 320 million years ago. Whilst lions are thought to have only originated around 124,000 years ago in eastern and southern Africa]

9) Which language is the odd one out - Romanian, Hungarian, Spanish or Italian? (clue: classical) A) Hungarian [Romanian, Spanish and Italian are all derived from Latin. Whilst Hungarian is a Uralic language of the Ugric group spoken since the conquest of the Carpathian Basin in the late 9th century]

10) The number sequence 1 0 5 5 1 9 4 2 7 9 9 3 5 6 3 connects three of these former ERB characters - Bill Gates, Frank Sinatra, Al Capone & Theodore Roosevelt. Who is the odd one out? (clue: wrong) A) Theodore Roosevelt [This was a pretty tricky question! Gates, Sinatra and Capone were all arrested at various times in their lives. And in three famous police mug shots they had numbers assigned to them - 105519, 42799 and 3563. Whereas Roosevelt is the odd one out as he was never arrested and actually worked as a New York police commissioner during his career helping to put folk behind bars]

11) I can sit on your lap whilst you play with me. There's usually a buzz about me, but I often feel low. If you take me sailing you're gonna need a big boat cos I'm large, heavy and known for my strong, scary jaws. What am I? A) Tuba [Well done if you got this correct! Only three patrons did! It was designed to be fairly difficult. Sorry about that. Anyway - here is the explanation. A tuba is normally played whilst the musician is seated with it on their lap. Whilst they play the instrument they buzz their lips on the mouthpiece which is essential for creating it's well known low pitched tone. It is large and heavy to handle. Whilst the terms 'you're gonna need a big boat' and 'strong scary jaws' relate specifically to the film "Jaws" - it's famous theme song is based on a simple alternating pattern of two notes - synonymous with approaching danger. The piece was performed by tuba player Tommy Johnson.

12) Lloyd was given four TV shows - The Big Bang Theory, Arrested Development, The Office, Parks & Recreation - if he had to feature a character from one of them in a future ERB which show would he select? A) The Big Bang Theory

14) Lloyd was given four movie heroes - Forrest Gump, Oskar Schindler, Neo or Tony Stark - which did he say he'd most want to see in a future battle? A) Neo

15) Pete was given four movie villains - Jack Torrance, Agent Smith, Magneto or Calvin Candie - which did he say he'd most want to see in a future battle? A) Magneto

16) Lloyd was given 20 seconds to name an opponent to face Aladdin in a future battle - who did he select - Ali Baba, Hercules, Peter Pan or David Bowie? A)  Ali Baba

17) Pete was given 20 seconds to name an opponent to face Wile E. Coyote in a future ERB or FITP - who did he select - Dick Dastardly, Road Runner, Marvin The Martian or Elmer Fudd? A) Road Runner

18) Lloyd was asked if he had to cast Simon Cowell to portray a character in a future ERB - who would he want him to be - Richard The Lionheart, Alex Trebek, Dick Tracy or Macbeth? A) Richard The Lionheart

19) Pete was asked if he had to cast Leonardo DiCaprio to portray a character in a future ERB - who would he want him to be - H.G. Wells, Woody Allen, Marlon Brando or Orson Welles? A) Marlon Brando

20) Lloyd was given the choice of four characters to dress up as for Halloween - Spock, John Wayne, Shrek or Mad Max - which character would he dress up as? A) Mad Max
