#MakeThisBattle Feedback - May 17th

Hello and welcome back to another round of #MakeThisBattle. I’m Nice Peter, I’ve got a chocolate chip stuck to my foot, and I’m happy to be back in the hot seat. In the words of Keemstar, whose voice plagues my mind, let’s get right into it.

He-Man vs Barbie [submitted by Padsdemic]

I mean, right of the top, this is amazing. This battle would be awesome, so many jokes, so many funny gender things. He-Man is so outrageous, Barbie is so outrageous. They are both huge characters with huge recognition that everyone understands. Throw in some deeper references to the Dolph Lundgren film (which is incredible if you haven’t seen it), and Barbie’s German origin stories, combined with some sweet Butcher of Lyon nods, you could really unpack some stuff here. A genuinely fun idea, that would be very fun to make and watch. I think we could even manage to make it about history a little bit. I love it. A+

Victor Hugo vs Charles Dickens [submitted by NP & UncleSyrus]

I hate it. Mostly because it makes me feel inadequate because I don’t know who Victor Hugo is.. yet! Okay thanks Google, I’m back. He's the The Hunchback & Les Miserables dude. French writer, great look and solid story but doesn't exactly squeal fun times. We explored A Christmas Carol already in Trump vs Scrooge but there's maybe scope to explore Charles Dickens or his work further. I'm just not sure this pairing is something people would wanna see. Dickens remains on the docket, Victor, can get out of here.

Gene Simmons vs Jimi Hendrix [submitted by Dragonsblood23]

I love it, obviously, but people would hate it. Gene Simmons doesn’t hold a candle to Jimi Hendrix. I don’t believe, for one second, that he could light his fire. Gene’s character is awesome and fun, but he seems like mostly a jerk, doesn’t he? The whole Kiss outfits and makeup are certainly fun, but Jimi would wipe the floor with him on every level. It’s still a cool suggestion. God gave rock and roll to it. I just don't see it ever happening.

Will Smith vs Hamlet [submitted by John Trash & Padsdemic]

Lol. Wut? This seems a bit out of left field. Maybe there is some connection I’m missing, or maybe it’s just a prince thing? Is that possible? Was Hamlet even a prince or did I make that up. Ah, Prince confirmed, it’s in the title of the play and everything. I do feel like I know a fair amount about both these characters but that connection is thin. But, if I had to make it, I would just cast Will Smith in both roles so no one would watch it anyway.

Alan Turing vs  Galileo Galilei [submitted by JustGamer]

Now we’re cooking with real demonization! Two great minds working for rather undeserving societies and governments. Both demonstrated extremely forward thinking ideas but ended up being vilified during their lives. I love it. This actually gets better the more I think about it. It is replacing my fantasy of a Stephen Hawking vs Galileo battle. Awesome suggestion, this will stay with me.

John Snow vs Snow White [submitted by Christof_Romuald]

I really feel like we could make a Princess Rap Battles reference inside this and cement the beef. That alone makes it tempting. Game of Thrones obviously is not quite the hot topic it once was. I imagine more people would be searching YouTube for Snow Dogs than John Snow, but whatever. It’s a great pairing, would make for a steamy battle. And who doesn’t love a bit of beef? I just want to get on Drama Alert without damaging my integrity.

Hercules vs Kratos [submitted by KaibaLord236]

Well, we do have the muscle suit! For those unaware, I went ahead and bought a Kratos white/silver muscle suit when we were confident he was going up against Thanos…. Wow, how different that would have been. I’m glad we went a different direction. Back to this match up, I like it, I think, but I don’t know a huge amount about Kratos except he’s white/silver and muscly. Hercules has always intrigued me. I think a lot of people know about him and dig Greek mythology and it could be fun to have some “I’m really strong” gags on screen. Kratos doesn’t feel right against him though, maybe just too many veins and biceps on screen. I actually like Hercules against Fivel from American Tail, something with contrast, you know? ;)

Well, that concludes my input on this round of MakeThisBattle. I hope you missed me as much as I missed you. And I hope this chip was in fact, chocolate -nice peter

"Lloyd's Hot Takes!" - Lloyd offers up some select thoughts!

I could see He-Man vs Barbie happening if we did some like stop motion animation with the dolls. That's kinda the only way I'd be into it I think. It'd have a robot chicken type feel. It's not a bad match up at all. I just can't see it ever making the cut in any one season when it came to decision time. Will Smith vs Hamlet -  I don't get this and I am accustomed to picking out connections between characters, so the average person is gonna be pretty lost. I like Will Smith a lot. I think he's a great candidate for a battle. But, I'd certainly like better to have Will guest star in a battle. Somebody get on that. Hamlet...meh.

"Monk's Hot Takes" - HeadMonk offers his thoughts!

Victor Hugo vs Charles Dickens I can't see happening. I feel the characters contained within Hunchback and Les Miserables are bigger than Hugo as a person, much like Dr Frankenstein & the monster are bigger than Mary Shelley. That's not always the case with writers. Dickens could certainly hold a battle. And I think Twain and Lovecraft etc could too. But sometimes with writers their work over takes them in importance, awareness and vitally potential fun & excitement. In terms of John Snow vs Snow White I think its a simple and solid idea that has potential if we ever wanna explore GOT again. But, I don't see any rush to do so. I like He-Man vs Barbie the most, as I think it's the best possible way to explore each character & universe - I loved the recent 'Toys That Made Us' series on Netflix. There are a lot of muscle bound character ideas floating around in recent months and I gotta say I love Skeletor more than I do He-Man, but his voice might be too garish for a battle.

======

A new round of MakeThisBattle is now gonna start!

Let's keep the theme simple - "Historic Fiction". For this round I am looking for match-ups that feature a historical character versus a fictional character. But you can ignore the theme if you wish!

Same rules apply. Three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the Discord server in the dedicated '#make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is... 9am PT on Thursday 28th May

Amelia Earhart vs Big Foot.

Roseblade

He looks more like Thundarr the Barbarian in this pic.

Binnoc9

Oh right, I forgot about that one. In that case, just to piss off everybody rooting for Otto Von Bismark or Margaret Thatcher, I'm voting for Lou Gherig (The Iron Horse) vs Tony Stark.

Erik Bell

I know I'm doing a fourth and that probably violates my suggestions, but I just learned that Nostradamus' four-line poems are called "quarantines." So maybe the guy who created quarantines vs. Tyhoid Mary?

Erik Bell

They already have done atilla the hun vs the Easter bunny.

David

They need Anne Frank's wholesomeness (sorta) to shut down someone like the Kardashians.

Erik Bell

I always thought that Vince McMahon would be good against Gordon Gecko from Wall Street. "Greed is good."

Erik Bell

Hmm. Real vs. Fictional... Just because we lost one recently to Covid-19, Siegried Fischbacher and Roy Horn (RIP) vs Doctor Doolittle (I refuse to suggest the Tiger King) Attila "The Scourge Of God" the Hun vs. Ra's "The Demon's Head" Al Ghul Atticus Finch vs. John Adams (I know, it doesn't make sense at first, but Google the Boston Massacre Trials and compare that to To Kill A Mockingbird)

Erik Bell

Ok I wasn't on board with He-Man vs Barbie but Jem coming in for a guest verse would sell it for me!

James A. Whitney

Eh, I don't like that match-up as much. Not as deep of a connection. I suggested Maverick because he's the most famous fictional fighter pilot I could think of, to go against the most famous real fighter pilot. I did suggest Amelia Earhart vs. Ferdinand Magellan previously, which I still think is a good idea. Really I'd be happy just to see Amelia Earhart in a battle some day, some way, though.

James A. Whitney

I'd like to see Buffy go up against somebody, but maybe a fellow vampire-hunter, like Van Helsing, Blade, or Simon Belmont.

Shawn Ravenfire

vs. Solid Snake!

Shawn Ravenfire

Much as I love the idea, too many people are unfamiliar with epic heroes like the ones you mentioned (especially if they're not from Greek mythology) and ERB seems to prefer 'name power' matchups. I'd rather Heracles go up against someone like Karna from the Mahabharata, personally.

Leo M. R.

Goddammit, I was just gonna post exactly this. *grumble* ...fine, take my like anyway.

Jason Ulloa

vs. Snake Plissken?

Joseph Wilger

Jay Gatsby vs Jeff Bezos Rocky Balboa vs Dwayne Johnson Buffy the Vampire Slayer vs Taylor Swift

Mathdino

Here's my other ideas for rap battles John Wilkes Booth vs Lee Harvey Oswald QB Ken snake stabler vs WWE Jake the snake Roberts

Garren

Beowulf V. Hercules sounds awesome actually!

OmgWtfLolFtwBrb

I'm not opposed to an all-out 80's toys battle or even Barbie v. He-Man! Although the only 80's toy who I personally think has the popularity to fake on Barbie would be the Transformers so most likely Optimus Prime! But my point is that Barbie is bigger than just being an 80's toy! She's THE toy! A Feminine Icon that's broken out of plastic! She should be paired against a polar opposite that can stand with her in name-value IMO, someone like Ripley or even Lara Croft would be a better match up for Barbie! Especially Croft when you take in account that not only is she opposite from Barbie in personality but her being from a Video Game plays perfectly to Barbie being a toy!

OmgWtfLolFtwBrb

How about if Hercules went up against another mythic hero, such as Gilgamesh, Beowulf or Cúchulainn?

Shawn Ravenfire

What if there was a whole bunch of 80s toy characters (like they did with the Russians battle)? We could have Lion-O, Optimus Prime, GI Joe, etc.

Shawn Ravenfire

I'd like to see the Red Baron, but maybe against someone like Amelia Earhart. (Off-theme, but a good match-up.)

Shawn Ravenfire

"He-Man is so outrageous, Barbie is so outrageous." Yes, but Jem is truly, truly, truly outrageous!

Shawn Ravenfire

Here's a idea that can fit in the theme John Rambo vs Desmond Doss(the guy that the movie hacksaw ridge was based on )

Garren

And my last suggestion, the suggestion I will take to my grave! Shaggy & Scooby-Doo vs. Steve & Blue (Blue's Clues) Both are parodies of detectives! Both have been accused of doing or being on Drugs! Both have a talking dog (Blue's Room anyone) Both are Childhood Icons And with the recent release of Scoob & the new Blue's Clues series, now's the time to capitalize on their popularity! TL:DR: Steve & Blue vs. Shaggy & Scooby-Doo!

OmgWtfLolFtwBrb

My next suggestion, I personally love, & it's Homer Simpson vs. Vince McMahon, and here's why! For one, the two are practically polar opposites from one another, with Homer being the stereotypical lazy American & Vince is apparently so busy that the guy doesn't even do his own shopping! Plus both McMahon & The Simpsons have had their fair share of controversies over the years! & The believe The Simpsons is the longest-running show on TV & Monday Night Raw is the longest-running episodic program on TV. TL:DR: Homer Simpson vs Vince McMahon

OmgWtfLolFtwBrb

As for suggestions, my first one is kinda out there, but I think the idea of having Bob Lazar in a Rap Battle just sounds interesting! I don't think there's been a space theme or alien theme battle & while Neil Armstrong is always brought up, & this could be my ignorance talking, but I'm not sure there's a whole lot to be said about him asides from being the first to land on the moon, whereas Lazar is a controversial figure that either confirms Area 51 is working W/Alien Tech or is just a nut job! Anyway, I'm suggesting Bob Lazar vs. Scully & Mulder from X-Files! I'm not sure if you'd guys would want to give Lazar a partner or not, but I'd leave it as a Handicap match! TL:DR: Bob Lazar vs. Scully & Mulder

OmgWtfLolFtwBrb

I had said this on another post, but I'll say it again! The idea of He-Man/Barbie is interesting, but I think we're wasting Barbie on someone who at least IMO is not on her level! Barbie is iconic, like Mickey Mouse level fame! She should be used on someone who is equally on her level or at least another iconic female rep, maybe someone who is her direct opposite like Ripley from Alien or maybe someone who's been called a real-life Barbie, like Brittany Spears! Not my suggestions for this MTB, just putting my feelings out there!

OmgWtfLolFtwBrb

He-Man vs Barbie sounds hilarious! You could have two kids in 80’s clothing playing with their toys and pretending to make them rap.

M.F. Cortez

Lex Luthor vs. Jeff Bezos Maverick (Pete Mitchell) (from Top Gun) vs. The Red Baron (Manfred von Richthofen) And my #1 fictional vs. real battle idea that I know will never, ever, ever happen: Akagi Shigeru vs. Garry Kasparov

James A. Whitney

This one will make you laugh I hope you do this one Michael Phelps versus Aquaman

Daniel Allen Barnes

Sheriff Andy Taylor and Deputy Barney Fife from Mayberry versus Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday

Daniel Allen Barnes

Rocky Balboa versus The Rock

Daniel Allen Barnes

Cao Cao vs Takeda Shingen Ulysses vs Ulysses S Grant Hansel and Gretel vs Jamie and Cersei Lannister?

timothy Davis

Tony the Tiger vs Joe Exotic

David

Don Quijote vs MacBeth (They are both fictional and therefor not quite thematic. But both are mentally ill, while one is sympethatic and the other a jerk, who gets bullied by his wife.) Ender Wiggin (from Enders Game) vs Joseph Kony Spartacus vs Vince MacMahon

Red Claw

And finally, because we need reps for female athletes in ERB, I'm suggesting Serena and Venus Williams vs. Nina and Anna Williams from Tekken. You guys love the punny name thing and both sister pairs happen to have huge rivalries between themselves, incidentally!

Leo M. R.

Rocky Balboa vs Daniel Bryan

David

Madea vs Mrs. Doubtfire.

Bryan Bennica

The Beatles vs the four hobbits from LOTR

David

Jay and Silent Bob vs Penn and Teller

Richard Cupal

Cersei Lannister vs RuPaul

David

For a more, ah, liberal definition of 'historic', may I suggest King Arthur vs. the definitely fictional Link from The Legend of Zelda? The latter is inspired by the former but with a distinct Japanese flavor; potential for very fun visuals here.

Leo M. R.

Ronda Rousey vs Chun Li

David

Ooh, interesting theme! Let's see... historic vs. fictional, hmm... How about Nero vs. Palpatine? Battle of the tyrannical emperors, lots of Legends around them (geddit?)

Leo M. R.

Martin Luther King vs Robin Hood

Marius Alnæs Sletten

Harry Potter vs Anne Frank

David

Lex Luthor vs Jeff Bezos

David

Vince McMahon vs Shao Khan

David

Neal Armstrong/Buzz Aldrin etc vs Space Ghost cast

Girish Menon

Alexander Graham Bell vs Ghostface
