New #MakeThisBattle Feedback!

Hope you all had a fun Halloween - either going out and dressing up, or turning the lights down and pretending not to be home. :)

Peter has been looking over the ideas you posted in the latest round of #makethisbattle. This whole submission & feedback system has been very useful so far. One of the ideas from a previous round has actually been filmed and we are editing it right now. Groovy.

A second match-up from this process is something that we intend to look further into - with the strong aim to release that sometime in 2020 - as long as the research and writing goes well. :)

So, thank you for your ideas over recent months and do keep them coming! Even if Pete or Lloyd don't love the idea immediately - it plants a seed that may one day end up being made into a video.

But, without further delay - let's see what Pete had to say about some of the latest submissions...

Robert E. Lee vs Mao Zedong (submitted by Klaus)

Right off the bat I just want to say that this is awesome. What a great way to bring in both of these characters.  I am truly impressed by this suggestion. I have always thought of Robert E Lee too literally - either vs Ulysses S. Grant or vs some other American icon - where the beef inevitably becomes partly about what it means to be American between two different Americans. By bringing in Mao, you open up an entirely different perspective of potential insults for Lee, and allow Lee to “represent”  America, which of course can be hilariously challenged by Mao. In these awkward NBA-and-NFL-kneeling-for-different-reasons times - what a great suggestion this is.

Scorpion & Sub Zero vs Ryu & Ken (submitted by Neo! & Octacle)

Mortal Kombat. Street Fighter. Gotcha. Seems like a no brainer for a Flash In The Pan Hip Hop Conflicts of Nowadays right? We've not done a two on two before in that format before. The writing would probably be fun and easily digestible and you can make some nice movie references for both on top of the long and deep gaming histories. Sounds cool.

Elizabeth Bathory vs Wu Zetian (submitted by CureMelody)

I don’t immediately recognise these names and right away that’s uncomfortable, both for the suggestion and for me. I’ll google both now… Elizabeth is third down the list of Elizabeth B’s. Oh jeez, right the supposed serial killer lady who probably wasn’t - isn’t she supposed to be part of Dracula’s lore too? Windowless room.. ouch. Hope it was a mirror-less room too… amirite? She looks like Cruella de NeckFrill. She seems a fascinating character though. Might be good candidate for a pilot idea I was tinkering with, like a longer format of ERB. Onto the Wu and her textured protein sounding surname. She seems like a significantly less dynamic and “oh wow” character. Obviously important, and bad-ass if I understand these massacre stories correctly, but I think just not right. Who else could go against this Elizabeth Bathory character in a sort of “learn about this person you probably didn’t know but are now are glad you do” type battle experience.

Phoenix Wright vs Atticus Finch (submitted by NerdMiGerd)

Nah. Maybe it's my recent frustrations with lawyers. Maybe it's the fact I grew up up with a lawyer dad who was a kind person; and therefore I rejected the stereotypes of lawyers until I got older and realized they are often true! Whatever it is, doing a lawyer battle doesn't feel like fun right now. Sorry.

Harriet Tubman Vs Spartacus (submitted by BTTF, Josef, Slicer, Alanomaly & Seraphimon44)

Ooooooooooooo awesome. Awesome!!!! Oh, thank you for suggesting a great Harriet Tubman match-up. This is really cool. She’s got a movie coming out about her soon and we’ve been wanting to have Harriet Tubman in a battle for years. This is another very winning suggestion. Spartacus is such a great foil - it’s creative and original and also right there. Bravo, and I hope we get to make this.

Ozzy Osbourne vs Johnny Cash (submitted by Great Potato)

Groovy. Battle of the still-cool-old-guys. Played by me and Lloyd? Could I pull off Johnny Cash? Lloyd could do either so effortlessly, but I think I’m most excited to see him as Osbourne. That said, I would have some fun playing Ozzy, and he does seem like a big hulking stoop shouldered beast doesn’t he? This is a fun idea. I’m taken aback by the real potential in some of the match-ups in this session. I don’t have much to add about this matchup, it’s a great idea and it’s also right there. My main concern would be they’re both a little dated as far as zeitgeist goes, not really on people’s minds, but they’re classics, and legends. Maybe this could be another great longer format possibility.  I think people would enjoy learning more about these two.

Fun session y’all, thanks. Don't forget to vote in the upcoming poll!

-------

We are now accepting new submissions for the next round of #makethisbattle. The theme for the next round is... 'Dynamic Duos'.

We will select at least 2 match-ups that fit that theme in the next batch of feedback. Let's see what great 2 vs 2 battles you can come up with. (But, as ever - you can ignore the theme if you wish)

Same rules apply as normal. Three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the Discord server in the dedicated '#make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is 9am PT on Friday November 15th.
