They can be recited or freestyled spontaneously. In ERB (which is also known as Epic Rap Battles of History), these raps consist of characters from history - both fictional or historical - performing against one another in an edited video format. It's main focus is fun, and doesn't take itself so seriously. Everyone should try that some time.
