Chinese Tourists in Sweden

Hey Laowinners!

So this is all over the news. Chinese tourists in Sweden are "harassed" by the police, and human rights against Chinese people in Sweden have been violated. If you haven't read any articles about this, click the link above.

Basically, some Chinese tourists showed up much earlier than check in time, and refused to leave, the cops were called, they threw a hissy fit, and the police forcibly removed them from the hotel.

The controversy lies on both sides, where the hotel, a private establishment, is free to enforce it's own rules, and when those rules are broken, they felt that it was appropriate to ask for police aid. From the Chinese side, they felt that as customers, they are correct, and that it is a violation of human rights to call the police on them.

Whenever something like this happens, I always feel that China crying "hurt feelings" is part of a bigger ploy, and it seems like some agree with me.

“China is trying to relativise human rights in an attempt to say, ‘in Sweden, the human rights of Chinese tourists have been violated’, in an attempt to establish a kind of level playing field.”

Another source of friction is Beijing’s detention of Gui Minhai, a Chinese-born Swedish citizen and book publisher who was detained for a second time in China in January.

He was one of five Hong Kong-based booksellers who disappeared in 2015 and resurfaced in mainland China. He was arrested again while travelling with two Swedish diplomats on a train to Beijing."

Thank you for your support!

Seems akin to the other awkward Chinese stunts, like the Chinese women showing up in Vietnam with enflamatory T-shirt’s apparently in an effort to get pictures of Vietnamese officials mishandling them. Laughable to outsiders but gets the job done for local Chinese propaganda. Shows the Chinese aren’t worried about outside media. I guess if you want to know about Chinese international issues, just track down “complaining hurt Chinese” stories and work backward.

When encountering this strange BS, just tell them "Mai Banfa"! WTH! I think I saw the video and the crying soundes like some bad acting from an 80s Kung Fu movie. Do they really cry like that?
