The Unruly audiobook is fantastic! You can get it on Spotify included in a premium membership I think. David narrates it himself and breaks the history down into manageable but humourous ways. It's hard to pick a favourite monarch, because I would say Henry I for the stability he brought the country, but at the same time, he gained the throne after 2 of his brothers suspiciously died. Once power moved to the government, a monarch impact on the country was reduced. So as much as I admired the late Queen, her impact on the country's progress was limited. History nerd, over and out!

2025-09-11 10:56:56 +0000 UTCThe show the Tudors does give an outline of the life of Henry VIII it’s very full of sex scenes and Henry stays young and handsome for the whole thing which is so inaccurate as he became a right mess 😝. The violence and torture evens are a lot but probably pretty realistic 😩Wolf Hall is better in my opinion but slower paced . Peep show is the nuts I love it

2025-09-10 14:09:52 +0000 UTCFavourites in terms of the nobility as before Henry VII everything was decentralised and the money and power was held amongst the nobility because of the feudal system - if you want to raise an army you have to get the nobles to raise them from their lands and so on. The reason the Tudors started centralising stuff more was to stop another Wars of the Roses But it still applied after, Blackadder is always trying to be Elizabeth’s favourite

2025-09-10 07:45:46 +0000 UTCThe Tudors is not historically correct. You’ve watched Blackadder 2 at least which is of course the Tudor period, probably about as accurate. I don’t think Liz 1 was that batshit in reality 😄
