Yeah schools can serve alcohol to 16+ under certain conditions. It's illegal to sell it though unless they're 18, so it's usually given free. Although I went to a few socials where the bar was paid so they were checking ids and stamping 18yr olds on the door. Obviously, those old enough just bought drinks for everyone else haha

I'm sure many people have already replied re Jay's tie, but wearing it like that is done here quite often as a sign of (silly teenage) rebellion, because there's not much you can do when there's a mandatory school uniform. So wearing it ridiculously short is a kind of middle finger to the establishment (I'm a guy, using my gf's account btw)

Technically the drinking age in the UK is 5 - that's the youngest you can legally be given a drink in a private home.
Then there's various steps leading up to 18 when you can buy yourself a drink unsupervised in a pub or off-licence (liquor store).

I think Bus W*nkers is Series 2. So many catchphrases I still use without thinking about it. Too Jazzy? comes out my mouth without thinking when someone isnt sure about something.... said in a pub when a mate didnt like the new beer he was trying, just as he took another sip..... shower!

When we had our school formal it was 3 drinks per person, form ages 16 to 18. The legal age is 18 but it's only a few drinks so no one really cares lol. Getting alcohol seems to be a bigger deal in America. I'm 44 have been to pubs bars and nightclubs from age 15 or 16 and never known any of my friends or anyone in our group to ever be asked for ID.

You can buy wine or cider if you're 16 and also buying a meal, and someone over 18 is with you, otherwise the drinking age is 18, but that's to * buy* alcohol. The drinking age is much younger if you're at home/a private function.

So pleased you both enjoyed Series one, I’m so looking forward to the Series two reactions. I believe each episode gets better as they go on.
Is there an ETA on Series two? Is it continuing from next week, or are you going to be reacting to a different show first. Then coming back to Series two after that?

Oh and “Simon” is in Fresh Meat which is by the two writers of Peep Show, and it’s about British University life so it feels a bit like a follow on to Inbetweeners

5!!? (I know what you meant)
Oh that’s really interesting. Thanks for clarifying that! Is 26 the legal age of “adult” then?

Always reminds me of the Buffy episode where the school acknowledges what she's done for them to keep them safe.

White Gold is brilliant, by the same 2 writers - set in the 80s and starring “Simon” and “Jay”. “Will” is in Friday Night Dinner

I used to try wearing mine as long as possible by the time I got to their age in the show! I can't understand that nowadays because it kept getting caught in things, etc!

By law a venue hosting the party would need an alcohol licence to sell alcohol, it’s a school so wouldn’t have a licence to sell alcohol hence the tokens. I have been to many a party where the venue didn’t have a licence but you would buy tokens then exchange them for alcoholic drinks, so technically the venue were only selling tokens. Just a simple way to get around the law.

I always wore my tie like Jay. Dunno why it was just the cool way to wear it. It was the same with your backpack, only wearing one strap was cool. We had some dopey ass trends back then 😆

It’s 18 to *buy* alcohol, it’s 5 to drink in your own home with adults (that usually amounts to a tiny glass of wine or shandy or something on special occasions when you’re a kid). You can drink at 16 in a restaurant with a meal if someone over 18 is with you and buys it - it was 14 a few years ago. It had only changed to 16 not long before this

The baby tie is a way of wearing a tie to try and push against the rules - you’re supposed to wear it like a proper tie. People used to try and get away with tying them in whatever ways they thought they could get away with. I was boring and always did it properly 😂
Everyone else is wearing theirs properly, it’s just Jay being a dick - it’s incredibly accurate
