Ed had a stutter as a kid, which he overcame learning Eminem raps. He actually started his career rap battling and in the London Grime scene, coming up with people like Stomzy back in the day. His first album was a mix of rap, singing and loop pedal. Getting his big break on SBTV (founded by Eds best friend Jamal, who sadly passed recently), which is very rap based for videos and other artists. So this is actually Ed going back to his roots, collaborating with someone from back in the day (Stormzy us huge in the UK) and including two up and coming rappers (at the time) in Jay Kay (from Birmingham) and Aitch (from Manchester)
