The September 2024 LGR Wrap Up episode is now up for viewing, after finally get a little downtime to record and edit this in between all the, uh... *flails arms gesturing towards hurricane damage*
So let's dive into the videos from the past month as well as your questions!
Feel free to leave any questions for next month's video in the comment section below this post. Thank you so much for your ongoing support, now more than ever. You are genuinely my most reliable income my right now since normal LGR YouTube stuff is on disaster hiatus while my house is being rebuilt, so I cannot say it enough — THANK YOU.
Take care, and here's to a better upcoming month!
Wish you can solve all the troubles soon and return to normal.

What's the plan for the future? Are you planning to do repair/restoration of the items that got hit with the hurricane rain? Cause I think that'd be kind of interesting. Not to mention useful for others who may want to get damaged electronics repaired from a situation like this. Cleaning water damage, removing mold, etc.

I'm new here, due to the thing. And I have a question. I haven't played The Sims since the original one was current, but I'm kinda feeling the itch. Which version of The Sims would you say is the best to pick up at this point to satisfy that itch? 2, 3 or 4? Or the original, still.

Hey Clint! I hope I am not too late in submitting my question...and I hope you're doing much better since this wrap up was uploaded! I trust you are a bit better! This video really made me feel things. I am so sorry for everything!! I am so happy you and your family is safe and your home is on the mend! I do have a question, of course. So what would you say your biggest eye opener would be when it comes to this whole mess of an experience? Any life lessons that stood out? Any specific advice you can pass on that you feel would benefit others in situations somewhat similar or just any advice on how to keep going when something traumatic happens? I know..big questions! Only answer what you feel comfortable sharing. So thankful for you and all you do!

Hey. I loved your convention video! It looked fun. I hope that one day I can make it to VCF Midwest! When I do make it, I want to meet you along with some of the other vintage computer people I like to watch. Things will get better.

LGR plays inane mobile games - since peeps like him swearing, I think it'd be a riot to see Clint fighting with mobile games for shits and giggles

Some ideas that would be mostly looking at what is out in the market place:
- You could do a video on options for Audio, looking at what the availability is out there, pros and cons of different options. Rough guidance on what a budget setup (AC97, and other cheap & easy options) looks like, a decent setup (Eg Sound Blaster with some downsides), and an extreme setup (the best Sound Blaster options + midi). Mix of b roll and screenshots of stuff from online auction sites.
- Same idea but on graphics cards.
- Look at what is out there for modern options that people can look at instead of buying a vintage card.
- An update on emulation tech you may have covered earlier eg Mister. Assuming you have the gear still. Since that would be pretty compact to setup in your temp accommodation.

Hi Clint. You wanted ideas.... Seen lot of retro stuff where you can "build" A retro computer with modern parts. Given your situation, maybe run freedos on a modern computer (or vm) and run modern dos games on it?

Busy comment section Clint! My thoughts are with you of course. Just thought I'd mention that I've made a point of watching your older videos and with you saying you don't like to, well you should. Go watch your wing commander one for example, it's bang on perfect.

I think I put the lack of watching the expo video down to FOMO honestly - being in the UK we sadly just don't get that kind of thing to that scale and I just get jealous! But screw it, I just need to live vicariously through your attendance. On the plus side, now feels like the perfect time to re-watch the back-catalogue too.

Curious about the storage situation. Going forward post-repairs, would you rely on storage places again for the really priceless stuff (unless god forbid those got hit just as hard by Helene), or it’s back to business as usual in your house?

Sorry for not giving a view to the Long Island Expo video, I remember I skipped over it cause I was rather sad that my own VCFMW plans had recently imploded so I saw a convention video and just went "...nyuhh...". I gotta catch the extended cut too, I enjoyed the last couple of those you did a lot

Watching this one and thinking of a silver lining in this circumstance… Maybe Clint could go thrifting again? That would’ve been awesome

Oh, and loved the Voodoo 3 3500TV video. That card brings back awesome memories for me... I remember buying one when I was a teenager living at home with my mom. Was a big purchase for me, and really loved that thing. Love that you covered that card.

Hang in there. I can't imagine being displaced from my home for many months, but it sounds like you have a good family support system, and all of us on Patreon are certainly here for you!
Things will be back to normal (whatever that is nowadays, anyway) soon enough! :-)

The bird camera has always been hard wired! I had dozens of cat6 runs installed in the house when I first moved in. Unfortunately many of them were destroyed since they ran through the attic, so I’ll be starting over.

As the guy who asked you awhile back if the collection was insured I feel terrible about about all the things you've lost and how chaotic life must be right now. Hang in there and super glad that you are ok physically!
I'd be interested in any house upgrade videos as repairs are done. Since walls and roofs are opened up run more cat6 to places, hell, hard wire the bird cam!

Hey Clint, glad things are progressing on the personal front. As far as what you could do is... 1) more rants a la the Sims 5, 2) your restoration and recovery efforts, and/or 3) once you are settled, pick up a gaming laptop to do some more modern game reviews (think patient gamer).
I know that last one is kind of wishful thinking if not asking a lot, but I certainly know I'd be willing to send some extra $$ your way to set you up with a medium to produce content.
At any rate, best wishes on your recovery. My deepest condolences on this and how long it will take to get things back to normal.

Very happy to provide support in your hour of need. Pleased to see your positivity in spite of all the crap that has happened. As a newbie I was working my way through your recent wrap ups and it was interesting to hear that you were thinking of sharing more of your collection before this calamity happened. Thanks for the new wrap up!

Man I love those tech tales videos. If you can think of a topic I think you could maybe do one of those. I mean those usually don't seem to involve much or any filming of stuff, just stuff from the internet. Pictures and such with a voiceover. At this point the only downside I can think of is doing research while all the stuff is going on but if you can... go for it.

Hey man! Been a supporter for years and I'm so glad you're safe. I live in Chicago but when I heard your area got hit by Helene, you were the first person I gave warm thoughts to. New video ideas? Maybe you could cover the mod community surrounding like Star Field (shit show) or like BG3? Or even some projects looking to revitalize old games like XWVM. It's a broad topic... I know, but maybe that can give you a sprinkle of something to work with. Be safe and if you need any help I'll be there for you.

I hope you're taking time to recoup for yourself. Having a hurricane come through is a big fuckin deal. I don't have much of a collection - just old games (some with boxes) and a handful of old PCs & parts - but I'd be happy to donate if any of it would be useful. (Found my old Avermedia scan converter when I was looking for my walkman to listen to the radio when the power was out)
Finally, question - I know you *love* the Sierra quest games ;-) If you had to pick one to play every day, which would it be? Leisure Suit Larry? Space Quest? Both have your style of humor.
Idea - 10 popular games that you hate - just use stock footage from elsewhere.

Storage???? That stuff should be in an LGR museum! Good luck with the insurance adjustment. Don’t let them give you any amount less than you need to fully rebuild and rebuy.

I love the candidness of this video. Being able to release what you have since the hurricane is a huge effort. As far as ideas for content go, I'll echo the one above about modern emulation like dosbox or something like that. You could screencapture on a laptop to make it easy. I'm sure you're receiving tons of offers of assistance, but I'm happy to help with footage or shooting anything I can for you, no strings attached. Need b-roll of something, reach out and I'll see what I can come up with from my collection. Keep up the good work! We're all rooting for you.

And in terms of relatively low gear content - any interesting modern community ports of classic games that are worth revisiting? OpenTTD, Return to the Roots and CorsixTH come to mind. Not sure if there's any that are particularly new or relevant... But meh, might at least require a bit less hardware...

It was heart wrenching seeing the photos and videos you were sharing of your home and location. I'm very glad you and your family are safe, and happy to learn that a good portion of your things are intact.
I really enjoyed the LI Retro video. It was very well put together and acts as a great retrospective for the event and the location. It really comes through that you had a blast. And as always, your vlog of the city was great - I’m still cracking up about that hotel…
As for video ideas… as long as you have a mic and camera, it may be fun to do a video roundtable discussion with some geeky folks about a particular topic or theme. I really enjoyed the interviews you’ve done on other channels recently. I know that’s kinda outside your standard format, but given the situation, that may be a viable video to consider.
I’ve been doing a few podcast-esq (videocast?) content with some fellow geeky creators and it’s a nice change of pace to just trim down some live footage than assemble b-roll and worry about everything being 1000% perfect.
I sincerely wish you the best in dealing with all the bureaucracy of getting your life back in order, I hope it goes as smoothly as possible!

I'd be interested in seeing footage of you going through everything. Whether it's just fast forward/montage from a tripod or some phone-shot footage of looking at a particular device.
Are you planning to cut most of the trees surrounding your house down as a precaution now?

Glad to hear you're at least making some progress in getting things back together. Look after yourself, man.
Aware it might get a little overly opinionated... And thoughts on the recent publisher push to further the "you don't own the games you buy" live, and/or the continuing drop in physical PC games? It hit me a little this year finding out I wouldn't be able to buy a physical PC release of Civ 7...

Thank you for the update despite all this craziness! Honestly I think a lot of your collection recovery efforts (drying stuff out, inspecting it) could be interesting as a video. Then again, recording all that would make it slower and more cumbersome for you so I'm not sure it makes sense.

Joke idea for future videos - as you mentioned not watching your older videos partially out of embarrassment, you should do "reaction" videos where you watch your old stuff and say a stream of obvious and pointless things with a daft look on your face ;-)
Slightly more serious idea - would the excellent Tech Tales series be something that could be re-visited without needing too much B-roll, capture etc.? Or something similar if you felt Tech Tales was done?
Maybe you could get a few videos out of the process of restoring your house if you felt comfortable doing that? Obviously LGR isn't a property channel but I was thinking about how Jeff Geerling did some videos on this main channel when he was sick and in hospital, I personally felt that worked.
Finally a (random) question - I've been listening to a podcast called "comfort blanket" where people discuss books or films/TV that they like to re-read or re-watch, do you have anything like that? For me the best candidate would be Lord of the Rings which I re-read every 2 years at least :-)

Well now I'll be running your videos on my laptop and TV, I'd honestly rather watch you than anything on the myriad of streaming services. Also just my 2¢ but I enjoy the travel vlogs :)
If you're in need of floppy disks I can get a shitload of 3.5"s and a decent fistful of 5.25"s from my dad, let me know!

Is there anything else you would like to collaborate with your brother on outside of conventions? Also, with the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake and the Resident Evil remakes, is there any classic 90s/00s game you would like to see remade or get a sequel for modern times for people to experience for the first time that some may have missed? Apologies for the lack of paragraphs the Patreon mobile web won't let me use enter! I would be happy to see any content you put out whether it's B roll, blerbs or even an off the cuff opinion video to drum up a discussion. The Steam Deck/handhelds getting people into retro games, discussion around the convenience of modern tech such as how I can use UPnP to wireless cast a 1080p/5.1 movie from my phone to my TV without a Chromecast but the PSP/iPod required everything to be MP4 and took time to convert plus slow transfer speeds. No need to transfer to USB or burn a DVD anymore...

Yeah good to see that you aren't physically hurt. Heard a lot of folks didn't get through that in one piece. Some ideas might be to fall back on to your original namesake. There's games to review both modern and retro. Plus there's also the idea of maybe collaboration with folks. I believe one half of My Life In Gaming lives in NC like yourself. It would be a nice way to keep your creative juices flowing while also working towards maintaining your presence in the algorithms. Could even use it at an excuse to enjoy some minor socializing if you could see if they'd have you over for one of their Sunday night Livestream sessions. Oh, and this is just an idea for if wanted to get out for something non "work" related. There's a comedy club over in Cherokee at the casino. I've not been there myself, but the acts they've got towards the end of December. One week with Mike Armstrong, the other with the couple of Carolynn and Brendan. I can personally vouch they are great as I've worked with em all in the past. Carolyn and Brendan I work with at a winery outside of Nashville just a couple months ago. Just saying if you wanted, I might be able to give em a heads up and score you a pair of tickets, maybe even for free if we catch em at the right time. At least for them, cause I'm actually in contact with em. You have a good one dude. May things improve. Prayers

I won't pretend I speak for everyone who upped their Patreon contribution post-storm, but I know I didn't bump my contribution up for a signed floppy- I knew videos would be slowing down for a bit and your Youtube revenue with it. I appreciate you wanting to get signed floppies out to those of us who are now at the $15 tier, but I think most of us will understand if we don't get every little perk given the circumstances.
Just being able to survive through this crap and continuing to do your thing is reward enough at this point.

How's your analog synth setup? Is it still intact?
Have you though about streaming for a while? It could be a way to get some income and chat with the folks about stuff, talk about the events, how things are shaping up, just talk everything that's on your mind to help ease the pressure. Maybe. It's just an idea.
Or you could start a Podcast with some ad support to get you through these trying times. It's easier to record voice only than to film B-roll. Just another idea.
