Phil's voice is so strong and smooth on Seconds Out. When I listen to the studio versions I automatically sing along (badly, of course) with his live vocal inflections from this album and Three Sides Live from the 80s. Phil's versions of Peter's songs have his own unique inflections to them. For someone who needs a little help getting into Peter's more raw style of singing and loves Phil's voice, this is a great gateway to their older music.

Steve felt that his guitars were buried in the mix, Phil wasn't happy with the sound of his drums, etc. I just felt it was very sterile and lifeless, it didn't capture the energy I experienced at a Genesis concert. This often happens with live recordings for other bands as well, the studio engineers clean up the audio and in doing so strip out most the energy. Countless bootleg recordings are far better as far as capturing that energy, but as with many bootlegs, the audio is spotty. Sure it has its moments but overall a disappointment for me and many other Genesis fans. I'm interested in seeing what you feel.
