LGR Thrifts - Episode 48

https://youtu.be/e8_PuZmwH4k

Thrifting! Finally! Sure has been a while, good grief. Slow goings at nearby thrift stores lately, but while sorting through my existing footage this week I decided I had enough content to edit down into a new episode in-between packing and unpacking at the new house.

And no, despite what the YT player says this is not actually over 40 minutes long, ha. I wish. Instead it's right at the usual 22 minutes, but somehow Adobe Premiere's new export system screwed it up by adding tons of blank silent nothingness. Irksome new settings menus, bleh. It'll be fixed for the final upload tomorrow of course. EDIT: FIXED

LGR Thrifts - Episode 48

Comments

Oh yeah, thrifting rule number one: If a loose jewel case CD looks like it contains something awesome, in 90% of the cases (heh... cases...), it will have something else inside it.

The generic beige keyboard you showed off was apparently made by Chicony Electronics (a name that somehow sounds familiar, but I can't place where I've heard of them before).

I recently switched to DaVinci Resolve after using Sony Vegas *shudders* for many years. Should have done this a loooong time ago

Good question Bryan! I've heard mixed reviews about Resolve and haven't had reason to try it out yet, although I'm interested. I've used Premiere for 20ish years and Adobe aside, it's a super solid app for editing and transcoding/auto-uploading. I've tried other editors in my time, but nothing came close for me in regards to performance (loving the C and Q/W technique). Having said that, I remember the old DaVinci colour correction devices we used in broadcast television back in the nineties. They had three black balls and a few knobs, plus tape and telecine control. You'd colour grade each scene from tape or film, all controlled by a Linux kernel. DaVinci are a solid company, so Resolve is definitely on my radar ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Have you or Clint considered switching to DaVinci Resolve? I don't know if the time spent learning the ways that it's different than Premiere (effects handling is very different from what I've seen and a little weird) would offset the hassles you're seeing with Premiere, but I do know that the pro license isn't a subscription and the free version is pretty darned capable if you have the time to try it out. I've been using the free version for about two years and it's been pretty darned good!

Bryan McIntosh

Ugh it is AWFUL, I don't understand the changes at all in a regular desktop workflow. So many useful things tucked away by default or hidden within an easily-missable dropdown menu!

LGR

Glad to hear I'm not the only one having Premiere issues. Oh how much I DISLIKE that new export (and import) thing. Adobe sure have screwed it up, I'm not sure I'll ever really get used to it. Tried sending multiple sequences to Media Encoder earlier and that no longer works either. But hey, LGR Thrifts makes up for it ๐Ÿ˜„

Jay Versluis

Someone definitely did coke on the cool table mirror surface.

Yep, as discussed in the above post :)

LGR

oh thanks, I'll get that fixed!

LGR

Just when you think the week can't get any better! A new thrift episode! :D

Mat Cooper

That clock was cool, though I don't blame you for not buying stuff just for the sake of buying it.

Steve Lovelace

Uh-oh, the content ends halfway through and then you got 22 minutes of black screen and dead air ๐Ÿคฃ. You could at least play some nice jazz in the background ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Kevin Furr

yay! thrifting! I haven't been out thrifting/yard-sale-ing in years.. so this was nice to see.. Also, yeah you should have bought that monitor!

Evan B

Great, would definitely have taken that in-box calculator for $8... I have and use daily a similar samsung monitor/TV with ALLLL the inputs, 24 inch but DVI, 2 HDMI, CI card support for digital TV... BTW YT title says Thrifts ep 48 but the title screen in the video says 47

Kilrah

Always so jealous of the inventory you can find. Just can't find that stuff in my metro area. We used to have a centralized Goodwill Computer Store, which was great 10 year ago, crappy by 3 years ago, and shut down altogether these days.

Kevin Furr

Ohhh! I had that same magic eye book!
