LGR - Tempest Replicade Mini Arcade Machine

Got a pretty straightforward LGR here video for Monday! It's Atari's Tempest from 1981, but in sixth-scale playable replica form. Love the details on this thing. That coin door, ahh!

I was pretty excited to set this up once I got home from E3, so I recorded this straight away and edited it all together this afternoon. Nothing too crazy going on, just a neat recreation of an arcade favorite I've been excited to share ever since buying it at the show last week. Hope you enjoy!

Tiny quarters though. Tiny. Quarters.

What a nice little friend to have around

AlexPeaks

Sure are! I could've done a whole video about the ones shown at this year's E3 alone.

LGR

Glad it's appreciated!

LGR

I do hope to put together another video from all that footage, yeah! Not sure what or when it'll be yet though.

LGR

I checked out their Asteroids machine at E3, it was awesome! They're even emulating the glow/trails behind your shots, adding to that vector display aesthetic. https://twitter.com/NewWaveToys/status/1138840417028304896

LGR

If they keep doing well I'm sure that's possible! Here's hoping.

LGR

Yep, that firmware update helps but it's still not as responsive as it could be. Not that I'd wanna play more than a few minutes on such a small machine regardless!

LGR

They count if I upload the version that's on Patreon! But I often update videos before it goes public and in that case they won't count.

LGR

Yes! I read that line and immediately heard Don Ho!

Heavy Metal Sing! Instant classic!

That is adorable <3

If only there were to be a Tapper Mini Machine....

Cute product and video, but it's clear from the gameplay footage that there is noticable input lag with the spinner (not related to the clicking), so not really useful for playing?

Jim Leonard

It's a lovely bit of kit, even with the spinner, really glad to have backed it for sure (and the same with Centipede). I think the arcade cab I'd go for would be Asteroids… there's something about the purity of that white on black vector display. Hoping the Replicade version does it tiny 1/6th scale justice :D

Rob Caporetto

Such foam. Very packaging. Wow.

I'm curious about something. Do the unnumbered "likes" you receive on these locked-off videos remain when the video goes public? I often wonder whilst I'm watching your videos you grant us Patrons early access to if they count, because I may not get around to re-watching it when it officially goes out. Sorry to be embarrassingly ilYouTubliterate... :3

Freakish Uproar

Great video! Hope to see a follow up where you pull it apart! 🛠

Having owned a full-sized pinball machine, I would say if you want a full-sized arcade unit you should go for it! The main thing to remember is that so long as you take good care of them, they retain their value, especially nowadays with the market for these retro games booming. I bought my pinball machine for $1,000 and MIGHT have been able to get that again when I went to sell it, but wanted to get rid of it sooner rather than later, and it went to someone I knew from our league who wanted to shop it up, so I let it go for $750. :B

The E3 video was so awesome I can't help but want more of it. Do you plan on releasing a longer version or just throwing out the 14hrs of footage for us? Hey, I'd watch it.

i like you that you mentioned the free spinning of the original controller. i used to love spinning the crap out of it when you were zoning into a new level (after the spikes of course) Thanks for sharing this!

Videos like this are why I love this channel.. Either the strange, weird or retro..

Tiny quarters for a mini arcade cabinet. That's the sort of insanity I can get behind. And yeah, mini arcade units seem to be the hip thing now.

The Enforcer

That’s so freaking cool, I have to have one of these things
