LGR - Unboxing An Unused IBM PC Convertible
Added 2019-02-17 02:21:54 +0000 UTCAlways been rather captivated by this machine. Not only was it IBM's first laptop PC and their first with a 3.5" floppy drive, but its industrial design and convertible nature is downright awesome. And that dot matrix printer around the back! Ahh, I love it.
Planning to cover it more in depth in the future, but until then it's a more relaxing event. Unboxing an unused machine, accessories, and documentation, then setting it up and checking out its basic functions. And BASIC function, too.

2019-02-17 17:26:15 +0000 UTCNothing weird about smelling the goods. My ~15 year old DragonBall books still smell new - can't get enough of that paper + ink smell. Unwrapping and opening a new movie/game is also sensory bliss for the nose.

Make a cable for it? No! Let's do a dock thing. Looks like a transformer. IBM blue, my favorite color. You got to stop smelling computers. You PC perv 😁

It's unfortunate that it has some issues, but hopefully those can be fixed. It's refreshing to have another one of these videos after so long, but I did enjoy your videos on the pointing box, and on the my first keyboard.

2019-02-17 03:33:35 +0000 UTCthe watermark on the letter from IBM is likely the brand name of the paper used to print it. Nice paper used by businesses is often watermarked like that. although strangely that implies that that letter was a one-off, or IBM was trying to look extra business-y

It would complement the IBM 5155 I have rather nicely, I do think. Am curious, if you're able, do you ever plan on obtaining a 5155, if you don't have one already? It's a really neat machine.
