LGR Thrifts - Episode 40

New Thrifts! Whee!

LGR Thrifts - Episode 40

Comments

Anyone else in Australia (At least in Vic) finding it really hard to find any old games like, at all? I mean even Cash Converters don't have much now days. My partner spends like, 40 minutes at Savers going through literally every single CD/DVD and hardly finds any games (Though he did find Neverhood for $3 a few months ago) Ugh, it's so frustrating -_- Thrifting in Australia is hard and when you do find something like, 90% of the time its really expensive.

I'm somewhat familiar with the Swan line of ham radios. I believe they use vacuum tubes. Replace the tubes, and check to make sure the electronics in it are in tack and it should still work. I'd be interested to see if you get it rolling again

Robbo the Hut

VWestlife x LGR crossover for the Radio? Pretty please?

LJFox

Home-dicks. Heh.

FizzPlease

The Bob Ross game is actually current :) It's super fun too if you like hobby style board games.

Skoddie

Ham radio! I became a ham 2.5 years ago. It's a lot of fun and there is a lot you can do with it. Haven't run across that particular radio but I know people that play around with and repair radios about that age. Good stuff to learn electronics with. Maybe a good time to get licensed!

Dale Riley

The little monitor is cool! I used to have a couple of those I picked up at a used electronics store for like $10 in the 1990s. Nobody wanted them. But I found them to be very handy for things like servers or when I just needed an easy to carry and move-around monitor for troubleshooting a PC or something like that. I believe they only connect to the green pin so anything red or blue will appear as black. Like you said, they were meant mostly for text display.

The 8-Bit Guy

Was that a floppy disk holder on the shelf next to that VCR-thing?

Eric Siegel

Clint: It is, unfortunately, a Lepin Star Plan knock-off set. As an AFOL, this is an abomination to the hobby. Lepin in particular is very unscrupulous in that it will knock off designs from Lego to individual hobbyists, since they do not design their own original stuff. Many have been taken by these and other knock off "brands". So sad.

Need to get out thrifting again myself, it’s tough going to Asheville every weekend but the payoff is worth it when you find some really cool stuff. I love going to that big outlet goodwill near I-40

Where I live people are literally giving away 50" and 60" HD projection TVs - seen them listed as being free for anyone that would pick them up. I have a couple in my house, not that I got for free but that I paid thousands of dollars for in the mid-2000s. Also that modem you sell early, it looked so cool I went to eBay to look for it, only have one for sale and the person wants $70 without a power supply. Shocked that Goodwill didn't do their research and try to sell it for $65.

Chris Munch

I would have 100% bought all those Animorphs books.

Charlotte Grubbs

Another fantastic video, Clint! I recently got my ham license in February and I've been having fun with hf digital! *Hint hint* 😉 If you want to sell that equipment you could look for a ham radio swap meet in your area. Or find a ham radio club and one of the Elmer's there may be able to help you repair or sell the radio.

I pretty much binged watched all the thrifts when I found out about them. Very excited for my first new one. :) This actually got me into thrifting/yard saleing(?) which, while often fruitless, is very satisfying when you hit something gold. Case in point I picked up a copy of KQ V today in nice condition. Manual but no box. Can't complain for 75 cents, though!

You are correct! I have some YM3812 keyboards already though :)

LGR

Oh nice, that Yamaha PSR-12 uses the same chip used in the Ad Lib cards I thiiiiink, the YM3812. Could be wrong on that but I know it's some variant of them. 8-bit keys did a video on a few of them and I have the PSR-11 in my collection as well

Jeremy Abel

Sweet nectar

Terry Lee

Always love these thrift videos, something som fascinating about never knowing what you'll come accross :)

Pixels.Ltd (Samuel Victor)

The series that has inspired me to go to thrift stores to buy things :) hard to believe that there are now 40 episodes (plus the pilot). Also wow I have one of those President CB radio microphones, I found it while cleaning up an abandoned lot in Detroit lol

I would like to see a video on that radio equipment you got. I hope you can get it working! Also... HOME DICKS (I will never read "Homedics" the same ever again thanks to you :P)

Lindsay Michelle

Would be interesting to run an LGR bbs, haha.

Robert Butler

I have several times off-camera, but it seems they don't get much new stuff in very often. Had the same basic selection as last time.

LGR

Surprised you did not visit the new place you found last time. That place looked cool!! Was hoping to see what new stuff they had.

Tim Hugall

Also: the ham radio stuff Holy crap! They look amazing! Don’t forget that you need to have a license to transmit on the ham radio bands!! (Also KC9JHY here... so I might be able to help if you have questions.)

Addison Chernow

LXI = sears’ in house brand

Addison Chernow

2:17 old bose speakers always look so cool, it looks like back in the day they tried things and actually cared about sound. Which I mean they don't now they just want to sell you crappy speakers for 400€.

Ezydenias

I love listening to these on the plane when I travel for work. They relax me to no end.

Thanks! It's certainly taken years to get here, but I do seek to induce a comfy feel with these.

LGR

Really great, casual energy in this. You’ve got this great scripted/non-scripted stream of consciousness feeling to your narration. You can absolutely tell how much you’ve gotten at home with making these type of videos. Makes for really cozy viewing.

Steve Skafte

Glad to hear that :)

LGR

I don't understand why I find these videos so fascinating but I do. Easily my favourite LGR series.

Yes! I love these Videos

This is exactly what I needed today 😁

well looks like its time for a dose of Thrift stores :D

TempleTurkey

If I can get things working, at least :)

LGR

Nope, mentioned in the video I do not have experience with amateur radio. Not yet at least!

LGR

Can't wait for the next video featuring that AM radio!

Malbeth

Clint, I noticed you picked up the box of swan equipment at the end are you a licensed operator? I’ve been licensed for a few decades now

David Simmons

Thrifts are shot in 1080p due to camera glasses :)

LGR

Yes yes yes ;)

Still waiting for the 4K render but WEEEEEEEE!

Grunk

Yeeeeee I miss too much the Thrift.

Clemente d'Angelo

Paul Unser
