I have a Compaq Prolinea 4/66 (486dx2 66mhz), for the longest time I have been using bog standard crappy 90s speakers with it, but then when I upgraded the sound card from a vibra 16 to an awe32 I decided to upgrade the speakers as well. I initially did want a pair of these, but I wasn't able to find them, so I got SonLab CS-510's instead. They have bass and trebble controls, and use a standard 3.5mm jack. They're probably not as good as your roland speakers, but they're without a doubt better than what I had before, plus, I got them new old stock, in the box and I was the first to unpack them.

It was a one-off gift from a viewer actually!

i got a radio shack minimus 4 that sounds amazing for a full range driver, even puts out some bass for a 3" full range. but i always wished it had a soft dome tweeter with it, and i only have one so i never made the mod so.

Someone is a Roland fanboy ;) I enjoyed the story about these speakers - they definitely stand out in every single video they're shown in! It's like they transcend the progression of technology, in a way, as weird as that sounds...

Totally didn't buy these because of your videos, nope nope. I use these on my BVM for audio output since those monitors do not have any kind of speaker. They work great and are actually designed to be placed right next to a CRT which is sweet. Best part: they were cheap. I actually wanted to ask a while back how you connected them, but I figured it out eventually and it was cheap as well. Overall I like them quite a bit. Highly recommended.

I've also read great things about the ACS300.1 speakers. They were consistently mentioned as the next best option beside these Roland speakers in publications in 1990.

Yeah one definitely has to pay a bit for solid speakers, and I rarely see "desktop computer speakers" hold up well anymore. Anything under $150 are practically disposable it seems.

I remember my uncle had these with his 486 back in the day. These and a Trinitron CRT. To me they make up the perfect cool 90s beige desktop.

Awesome speakers. For the longest time I had a set of Acs340 Altec Lansing speakers - the quality of sound from them was just amazing. Then the roof leaked and destroyed them... sad day. Now days I make due with a $30 set of Cyber Acoustics CA-3090. They sound quite good particularly for the price.

Ever since I saw these in one of your videos, I've been hunting for a set myself. There's something just so... visually 'gasmic about them.

It's hard to find that build quality these days. Just compared with those black ones you showed in the beginning. Those are just made to break, so you buy another one. What was the word.. Ah yes "planned obsolescence". It's sad to see that even a brand like Roland has succomed to this. Typical case of the 21st century. Those Mackies look sturdy, though.

At least you don't sit them sideways. That was such a craze for studio monitors for a while, people touting that they help with the sound when it doesn't do anything. Most likely just depending on the room or studio room layout.

Ah, yes. I've mentioned this before, but the "Roland" logo on these does give the impression of the video having a watermark whenever they show up. Someone who's new to your channel might assume Roland is your name and you're using wacky watermarks, They are pretty neat speakers, though. I've always liked their looks.

I can guarantee your interests are very similar to mine and probably the majority of your viewers. we are going to find your content interesting as we often do. Just keep doing your thing and we will keep watching! I had a precious pair of Antec speakers in the late 90s. It was the best desktop audio I ever experienced. Good stuff

Unrelated to this video but I picked up a couple Sims 1 Expansion Packs (Unleashed x2, Vacation, and Hot Date) for 14 cents each at a thrift store today. Just gotta find a copy of TS1 now :)
