LGR - So I bought a Chinese Need For Speed collection

Yeah, soon as I saw this collection of 17 NFS games existed (in a big box no less!) I had to import it and explore the thing on video.

LGR - So I bought a Chinese Need For Speed collection

It sure is. Still have friends there. Phone lines were put underground over 2 decades ago. Not sure why they haven’t done electrical. 😞

Eric Simmons

St. Lucia! Passed through Puerto Rico several times when taking flights, never have spent much time there. Tragic what happened with Maria.

LGR

Clint, you said you lived in the Caribbean for a short while. Which island? I lived in Puerto Rico for 2 years when I was stationed there with the USCG.

Eric Simmons

Say no to piracy! _haaa_

JennaKay

Yep, still have that one boxed! This is what I was referring to in this video when I talked about having official NFS collections from EA that weren't as impressive as this Chinese one. Not worth that price, they just crammed the original CD in there with some cheap paperwork and called it a day, no updates or anything.

LGR

Do you have the Need for Speed collection box set that came out back in the day? https://www.amazon.com/Need-Speed-Collection-PC/dp/B0000CE1P7 This one in particular. I remember seeing it on sale back in the day at Walmart. Curious to know what all is in the package, but not $66 curious lol.

Cyclone

Haha, yeah it turns out all the cars use the same sounds in that rip. Really jarring.

LGR

that V8 sound from the NSX lul

TempleTurkey

Totally, with the proliferation of faster internet and digital storefronts, physically-sold pirated media really has been minimized over the last decade where I lived as well. I still see lots of bootleg apparel though, lots of fake luxury brands being copies and even just simple logos like Nike.

LGR

2nd page: The first paragraph : Detail the name of the game, what you do in the game, publisher's name (EA), Funny enough the "jing che" was supposed to be "police" (警察) in chinese as the third last sentence reads: "Players can race on different tracks with different cars, in some version of the game, the players can also enjoy pursuit with police cars."

Paragraph 2: if you have the following symptoms: 1. Muscle spams when in contact with flashing lights. 2. Getting woozy while playing games 3. if injury had previously happened, particularly the arm or wrist, advised to stop playing and consult a doctor 4. If signs of vomiting happened, please stop playing and consult a doctor 5. If your wrist starts feeling pain or numb, stop playing and consult a doctor

Wallace Fung Wooh Sheen

The rest of page 1 is just for the general health notice: Paragraph 1 : Don't stare to close to the display unit, after 1 hour advised to rest for 20 to 30 minutes, if sleepy please do not play the game

Wallace Fung Wooh Sheen

For the manual the 1st page the big square box says: Health Notice: Line 1: Say no to bad (immoral) games, say no to piracy, Line 2: take care of your health, beware of fraudster (cheats), Line 3 : play in moderation, too much may affect health. Line 4: play at the right time, enjoy your life

Wallace Fung Wooh Sheen

Didn't know you read Chinese!

David La Roche

Where I live it's pretty much the same as what you said about the Caribbean. A couple decades ago, seeing official videogame releases for ANYTHING (PC or console, disc or cartdrige) was a rare occurrence, and when I saw one it was always at preposterously high prices. Pirated games would routinely be sold in legitimate stores. This has slowly been changing in these two decades, particularly after the proliferation of the digital market, which obviously gave retailers a much needed incentive to increase their product's viability. These days it's actually rarer to see pirated copies of any games. Granted, this is all helped by the fact that piracy has simply become easier to almost anyone with an internet connection, so people are more likely to download than to purchase. Trying to SELL pirated games get you laughed at nowadays, specially since no one here takes the effort of making their packages look as legitimate as this one.

Pablo Rodriguez

Where did you get it?

Sean Pirecki

And people complain about quality Chinese products.

Justin Dotson

Yep, just all the other games! Several of the latest ones take up one or more discs each

LGR

Saint Lucia

LGR

So, what's on the other DVDs? Do all the other games take up that much space?

Eric Siegel

Where in the Caribbean did you live, if you don't mind me asking? My grandparents lived on Grand Cayman for several years and I spent a few summers there. :)

evistre

That'd just be 1998. Sky demons were all over.

LGR

You should never buy your speed online. You never know if you get the real thing or an inferior mix.

Gary Leigh

That skybox in NFS3 looks incredibly ominous, with the way it rolls around while pulsating. Looks less like a storm and more like ancient demons are being summoned into our realm.

Vlaphor

It's pretty great actually, certainly caught my eye when I saw the photo online

LGR

Yeah EA released a bunch of those! I have one called World of Speed that was pretty sweet.

LGR

Yep, it's an option in those earlier games to cut the resolution in half and can be disabled

LGR

Yeah it's just an odd release all around. I haven't tried every single game in the pack but all of them that I ran so far are in English by default.

LGR

That's my assumption, but I still found it odd that it had games from the mid 90s on low settings in a release from 2012!

LGR

I had two official completions, one with IISE - Hot Pursuit II and one with Hot Pursuit, Porsche Unleashed, Superbike 2001 and Nascar 2000. While I have all of the games still I don't have the packages anymore unfortunately.

mychemicalbromance

Let's tie some ends here... On the last Thrifts Clint said that he used Nero for some 'totally legal' stuff; now we learn that he knows what Daemon Tools is for. Can we conclude that maybe our beloved youtuber was a Pirate of the Caribbean? *worst pun ever*

LJFox

Can you disable interlacing? I can't stand seeing that.

I assume the older games did not get Chinese translations, I wonder if the newer games used the English versions as well. Somewhat strange to see them change so many settings and leave the units at miles per hours instead of kilometers, that is always the first thing I change in driving games.

Aleksander

I'm interested in the mysterious Caribbean LGR.

avfusion

I want it.

Clemente d'Angelo

Mmm.. instant flashback to 1999 and NFSIISE and NFS3 on my Orchid Righteous Voodoo II 12MB :D

Anders Enger Jensen

they probably set the settings low so that it could run on a toaster for anyone that can't afford a decent computer... Or they were just using old hardware and that was the best settings they could do to play the games...

Terry Lee

That box art though... ❤️
