I love Tech Tales, so was really pleased to see this pop up. I had no idea about the story behind this... totally crazy!

2015-09-26 17:37:03 +0000 UTCDon't think it was. Mr Notron certainly wasn't with us anymore although Symantec certainly paid him handsomely just to keep his smiling mug on the boxes. Think they were contractually obligated to keep him on there too... clever contract deal he sorted there. They tried to move away from the Norton name one year but the brand was just too strong to discard quickly. Not sure where they're at with it now. BTW, iever played the first Dune game on PC or Amiga ? 2015-09-20 00:39:01 +0000 UTCoh man, I worked at Symantec for 8 years and McAfee was our nemesis there :) I heard so many stories about the guy there it was hard to know which one was true and which one was just corporate defamation. interesting to see, some of them were true

2015-09-17 14:46:30 +0000 UTCI remember McAfee Virus Scan being cool because you could download the definitions updater, run the self-extractor with the /X switch (I think), and it would unzip not only the virus definitions file, but a command-line version of the scanner itself.
