LGR - Thrifts [Ep.15] Construction Complete

The last episode of Thrifts for a little while... see my previous post about it for why. Thanks for the ongoing support :)

LGR - Thrifts [Ep.15] Construction Complete

LOL @ the 3rd party SNES controller packed in with the PSX! @9:59

I got the "Baldur's Gate + BG 2 (and their expansions)" pack a few years ago for €20. To have everything on one DVD for BG1 instead of 5 ou 6 CDs, without DRM (IIRC), is really nice. :)

Maximilien Noal

cosmo tank is one the best gameboy game ever made and has one best them song .. do review on it

Alex

PC-FX systems are super cheap anywhere in Japan, even in big usually-expensive retro game store chains like Super Potato or Game Tanteidan. When I went 2 years ago there was a whole shelf of them going for $15-$20 a pop depending on yellowing. There are just heaps of them in circulation, and nobody wants them. Too little, too late for NEC sadly.

RetroSwim

Send them in to EEVblog for teardown tuesday! ;)

RetroSwim

i will miss these thrifts videos, but always looking forward to whatever you have in store for this channel!

Brandie Drown

I've heard from some Goodwill employees sure, but nobody higher-up or anything!

LGR

Hey LGR, has anyone from Goodwill contacted you about these videos? You have been doing some sweet marketing for them and other thrift stores. All the pictures of people's hauls at the end is proof of how much business you're generating for them.

Kevin

It was at a different store in a totally different city, so I doubt it was from the same guy!

LGR

Hmmm

LGR

I wonder whatever happened to that Baldur's Gate Euro DVD set..

I have that small CRT TV at 4:14 in transparent blue. As I live on the other side of the planet in a PAL country it felt kind of weird to see that in your video... maybe it also came from that European guy who dropped the Games in the other goodwill.

Cosmo Tank! One of my favorite original GB games! Worth a play. I played Boomer's Adventure in Asmik World until my thumbs were raw, because the last stage boss is near impossible.

Steve Martin

Maybe you should keep some and use them for prizes in contests and/or competitions.

Ian Guebert

My knowledge of Japan retro game market stops at GameCenter CX episodes - so I have no clue is that was a cheating or not. Japanese only consoles/PCs are so freaking rad.

ksen

As I said in the video, I already own all of them, complete in box separately.

LGR

Oh crap, that's an awesome GameBoy game(s) find right there! I love the freaking GameBoy!

Ian Guebert

Oh man! You missed out on that compilation of games, The Award Winners. It has Frontier on it, the sequel to Elite! Or at least get it for me :P

Ian Guebert

Haha, nah, there were at least half a dozen shades of beige/yellow/orange going on!

LGR

I asked them, they were thrifting on the outskirts of Tokyo. Kinda cheating in a way but hey, still thrifting :P

LGR

Yeah, I plan to poke around inside and see if there's anything obvious. But the parts and connections are so miniaturized I don't have much hope!

LGR

Thanks for showing us your Thrift store adventures. These were very interesting and got me interested in exploring those stores myself. I understand taking a break from these thrift videos for a bit. Look forward to what you have planned for in the future!

Douglas Holmes

Oh man, that Fujitsu isn't supposed to be that color? I seriously thought it was a design choice to make it stand out.

Jonathon Jones

It's too bad we won't get any more thrifts for a while, but with Winter around the corner and a broken camera, it's probably for the best. Not a bad haul at all; the sealed Gameboy games alone would have been a great haul for me! I want to know where that guy found a PC-FX too. I said gawd damn!

CuppaKofe (Brandon)

Farewell LGR Thrifts, you'll be missed. Did you already had a Perimeter? Because it's pretty neat RTS, probably rare overseas. Somebody finding PC-FX on his thrifts - is pretty insane. I wonder how that happened. Great episode as always, thanks for this season!

ksen

I knew the rumours were true! 8D Also, you could tell a little ahead of time that the camera glasses were starting to give out, even before you mentioned they were starting to go, due to very slight flickers which were occurring, mostly at the bottom of the footage. :( Considering they're useless now, if they're no longer under warranty you should try prying them open and seeing if maybe they're repairable. :B

Wow, TOCA Championship Racing. That must be quite a rarity in the States. In 1998, any motor racing fan in Britain worth their salt owned this game (known as ToCA Touring Cars over here). One of the best racing games of the time. And battlechess, first PC game I ever played. My friend had it and we played for weeks (until we discovered SimCity 2000, that is). And Encarta 97. Many a rainy lunchtime wasted in the school library on that piece of software. Shame to see this series come to an end (for now, maybe?), but all 15 episodes have been a joy to watch. Cheers Clint!
