LGR - Creative SB Inferno Headset Review

LGR - Creative SB Inferno Headset Review

Comments

I'll keep these in mind. How about Wireless ones?

Zem Hysong

Damn, this headphone sucks. It looks awesome, but it's all about the performance. With a brand like this, it is surprising to me how flawed the product is.

Pow3rh0use

Yup, anytime a company sends me a thing I always make sure it's clear that my review is going to be very honest but fair. And if they're cool with that, we proceed :)

LGR

And now, Creative will never send you anything again. XD I'll take reviewer integrity over free stuff any day of the week. :B

Never was a fan of any sort of gaming headsets. Never will be. Bad quality through and through coupled with insane pricing, which doesn't surprise me. Those who really care will always prefer separate headphones and a mic.

I have the Fatality headset (non USB) for a few years now and I still love it! Very good headset for the price although nothing too special.

Aaannnd I get the alert email nearly 12 hours hours later. Oh well? *shrug*

Actually, the reason why the PCI cards had to use emulation to handle SB16 support in DOS has to do with the addressing differences between the ISA and PCI buses. It's impossible for those games to address a PCI card even if it were a straight SB16, so the emulation TSR (and the Windows driver) handles the translation for them. There really wasn't anything Creative could have done to fix that to be fair.

I had a nice set of headphones for studio use, but I trashed them.. Went out to look for new one's the other day, but for this purpose there's nothing under $200 - sigh.., so I'd consider $50 pretty cheap! I'll bet you anything that mic/volume controller will kill the headset though - expect that scratching to suddenly be there by default, and then you'll have to mess with it to make it go away. All too familiar.. Thumbs up for an honest review

I really hate the plug. While it can be nice having a plug for the PS4 and Xbox One I gues it sucks that the adaptation isn't the other way because man replacing an 3,5mm Phone Jack like this is nearly impossible. Or at least you need allot of time. And it breaks so easily anyway, I mean some companies make great phone jacks on their devices that last way longer than you would expect but actually I still find that stereo is already to much for those little jacks!. I whish we would use the big jacks for that, because they don't break that easily and are way better to repair. But everything has to be tiny, well at least here I see why.^^ Not like Bose and their Sorround Systems "Look we have a very small penis, isn't that awesome?".

To me it sounds like a case of trying to do too much with a small budget. Things like the detachable microphone and included green/pink Y adapter may seem like they might not cost so much to do, but in reality it does eat into it quite a lot. Couple that with the in-line controls (not to mention all the design work), and something had to give at $50. It's heartening that they sound OK and the mic quality was actually pretty decent; That means they got the essentials down with this headset, but the "value adds" did more harm than good, and I'd be willing to bet that the bass wouldn't fade out without those in-line controls, to boot.

After a SB PCI soundcard with a SB16 emulation for DOS games that doesn't work at all, I'm not surprised...

Haha, loved the intro. Too bad the headphones sucked! BTW, I didn't get an email alert for this like I usually do with Patreon... I luckily was checking my homepage on here and found this video. I checked my settings and I have all email settings turned on. Maybe look into this? I know Patreon email has been borked before, so it wouldn't surprise me that these issues have appeared again.

Thank you!

Already answered below!

I use Steelseries headsets, typically. Big fan of their Siberia series, and I use the V2 most often. For the $50-ish range, their Raw Prism is awesome and super comfy.

LGR

So what are some $50 headsets you do recommend? I ask because I'm stuck with using my Apple EarPods on my computer, and I really want a good and cheap headset.

Headset Guy

This It is always disappointing to see a company like Creative fall so far... That being said, what is your recommendation for headsets in the < $50 range, and the < $100 range?

Zem Hysong

Agreed. Odd that some of their older, cheaper models fared better!

LGR

Shame it wasn't a good headset. With a name like Creative you do expect better.
