LGR - Blackthorne - DOS PC Game Review

Comments

Thanks! Hehe, and I certainly hope to review it sometime... preferably not with too much blacking out!

I saw Cryo's Dune in the background and then a wave of nostalgia hit me hard, and after that I don't remember much because it was all black...ness. ;-) Seriously : very cool game and review !

And the free version on Battle.net comes with it preconfigured with DOSBox!

LGR

Hoping to find one of the console versions myself, it'd be awesome to have. Seemingly a tad uncommon too

I couldn't believe my eyes when I received an email stating LGR had done a Blackthorne review. Up there with Duke 3D, Wolf 3D, Blood and one of my all time favourites DOOM! This game is absolutely Fan-Fucking-Tastic! I loved it so much as a kid and probably because my old man pointed out the main character had the same first name as myself, It was fun, It had an almost medievil look to it and it tickled my childhood spirit like no other.. No in-Fact it kicked the FU#K out of it. For anyone who hasn't already played this title, DosBox.

This is one of those games that I never played on PC and always wanted to get on SNES, but couldn't afford at the time. And for some reason, any time I went to Blockbuster (showing my age here) the game was already checked out. Oh well, hopefully I'll run into an affordable copy at my local used game store someday.

Awesome review, i'm going to Battle.com to get that game! i would love to get the 32X version, but that one is pretty rare, hopefully i will get it someday!

Thanks!

I LOVED this game. Played it for weeks back in the days. On my lovely old 486 DX 33 with its unbelievably big 30 MB Harddisk ;) Ah, those were the days. Thanks for the memories, LGR. :D

Heartwork79

One of the first games I played and to this day one of my favourites. Maybe the only Blizzard game I actually kinda like (not a fan of Diablo, Warcraft or anything else they've done since BlackThorne).

Alyxx the Rat

You do a great Batman voice!

Sabrina

Right, I think I have to make that video about Tomb Raider now!

John Gabriel

I always like this game, though I have never beaten it. Thanks for the reminder that it is available again.

Zem Hysong

I see LEGO Island, My childhood!

Random thoughts I had during this video: 1. I hear the name Blackthorne, and I immediately think of Blackthorne from the Ultima series. 2. Sarlac sounds like the name of an alien creature from either the Star Trek universe, Battlestar Galactica Universe, the Babylon 5 universe or a low/mid-level D&D monster. 3. The soundtrack for this game actually reminds me more of Ennio Murricone's soundtrack for John Carpenter's The Thing. 4. It would be so cool if you could track down copies of Abe's Exodus, Munch's Oddysee, and Stranger's Wrath for their original platforms and do videos on them. Well done video Clint! Maybe it's just me, but I get a sort of Contra vibe from this game.

Thanks for the video and the memories! I played this on SNES back in the day. I remember booting this game up for the first time and got all my expectations of a bloody action game crushed. But instead I found a nice PoP clone. It didn't seem to made a huge impression on me though, since I didn't remember ever playing it until I saw the title logo.
