At long last, the follow-up to my Arena review. Hope you enjoy, this one was quite involved (as most RPG reviews are!)

I've had Daggerfall for years. I playedit two times. First time, the monsters were kind of scary (I was a stupid teenager), but after a few hours I finally was outside the first dungeon. Now I get to the city, buy some stuff, and get out. It's night. I walk around, digging the open world experience. But then I hear (super loud) : "VEEENNNGEANNNNNNNNNNCE!" I shat bricks because of the sound alone. Never mustered the courage to play it again !

Maximilien Noal

hm thank you. that was very helpful

The review is a bit on the short side, did not touch some of the juicier stuff of the series, but .. oh my god .. I played it religiously on my PC when I was younger, for countless hours without end. I never finished the game though, it was more fun to do fun stuff :) The game set the foundation on pretty much everything Elder Scrolls... sparked a modding community and many lore sites where it was fun to browse and discuss ingame stuff. How many hours I sank into this game? Don't ask, but I think as many as Kris' did...

Wow, to think that I've passed up the early Elder Scrolls games because they looked simple. Daggerfall has been added to my list of games to play in 2014. ...and I've booby-trapped the doors, in the meantime.

You might want to check out the DaggerXL / XL Engine project which lets you play an updated Daggerfall on modern systems. It also supports Dark Forces.

I've probably logged over 300 hours worth of gameplay in Daggerfall over the years... and have STILL never beaten the main storyline! XD

Even if Daggerfall is downloadable for free, I wanted a physical copy of it. I was lucky to find one about two years ago (just the disc with the manual, but it's fine for the moment). My favorite of the series is Morrowind, but do enjoy playing Daggerfall whenever I feel like powering on my old PC.

That was an awesome review. Makes me want to give that a try.

YEEES!! I love you LGR! I love so very much! Thank you!

I still hear "HALT!, HALT! HALT!......" in my nightmares

Morrowind used the same combat system. It's a holdout from pen and paper RPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons. Some people love it, some don't for "action" RPGs. That said, you don't need DOS. Just get "DaggerfallSetup", like LGR mentioned. It takes Daggerfall and gives it a nice, modern installer, so all you'll ever need to do is double click a desktop icon and get lost in a game world the literal size of Great Britain.

i might try it. though i don't have a dos to play on. but rolling before you do anything looks kinda dumb to me :\
