The Twisted Case of Mary Yoder

Hey everyone! Hope you enjoy this one, certainly one that's stuck with me after I finished it.

The Twisted Case of Mary Yoder

Comments

And the dad realised and they decided to frame Caitlyn

Fiona McGarry

Definitely a crazy one! I feel like I can’t figure it out! Everyone blaming everyone else, missing something for sure. Good one, Mike!

Caitlin

The use of the email account on her home ip. The use of the prepaid creditcards she bought. Then the rape charges, then she dropped those. Were they "on" in this on/off relationship during the murder? I guess not since the motive the brought forward was the ending of that relationship? Can it be she wanted revenge for the rape and possible other abuse by the son? If she did it alone, did she have access to the sons car even though the relation was off at this time? If she was forced in to doing this then why not come out with it now she was denied a retrial? If the father and son or one of them manipulated her in following their or his plan and now are betraying her it would be logic to now speak out how that happened but she did not? This is one the more fascinating cases our boy Mike did i think.

Paul Wevers

It's his wink at the end that makes it all worth while.

Carol Anne

Some have pointed to the canceling of Ally McBeal as a turning point for the father. It hit him hard and he just wasn't quite the same after that.

Taco John

The son and his dad. Evil. When did evil come to live in their hearts?

Karen Vega

The son did it

Victoria Harris

Colchicine ....I was on that for a while, now one thing you are told right away is NO grapefruit as it can make the colchicine way more toxic, hmmm wondering if perhaps whom ever poisoned her might have known this :o) x

Dorvita

As someone who grew up near that area, I chortled at your pronunciation of Oriskany. We've got a lot of odd names up in these parts from the Iroquois.

Amy B

Trial seems awfully circumstantial with some reasonable doubt, not sure about that guilty verdict. That said I still feel she did it. Revenge for a criminally shitty boyfriend? Who knows. I just can't get past the fact the poison was bought with one of her prepaid cards, using an email address in someone else's name that was apparently only accessed from her home Internet's IP address? Seems sus.

Ben Brown

He raped his girlfriend and was charged for it? Sounds like a charming person. Definitely him and his Pa. Seems like toxic masculinity runs deep with the males in this family. The father goes after his wife's sister and the son is a rapist. Stone cold killers don't vomit from nerves - but terrified innocent people may just. Dig deeper, investigators - your work here isn't done.

Siobhan Blue

It might sound silly, but Mike actively makes my life better. I'm ridiculously grateful.

Liz C

I've heard this story many times but hearing it from you, Mike, makes it better. Thank you for sharing this :)

Kristina Bledsoe

The son is sketchy AF. I don’t know who’s guilty of the murder, but the son has such an aura of hostility coming from him.

Nuala

IDK I thought of that but I got the sense from Mike's telling they started interrogating her hard *after* she admitted she wrote the letter.

dougie

Her behaviour in the police interrogations points to her being guilty, but to go to the extent she would have to go, and keep that anger burning waiting for the drug to arrive, she’d be mentally disturbed. I’d love to know if anything in her past history showed obsessive behaviour.

Carolyne S.

I was thinking that I'd vote not guilty on reasonable doubt. I felt that during her confession to knowing about what happened...I find it hard to believe that she was entirely aware of the full nefarious intentions of Bill and Adam, though she knew enough to know, though her motivation in divulging the information is a little hazy, I can't figure out why she would go to the police if she was so heavily involved, if not the true murderer. Reading the above comment posted by Tyler regarding Caitlyn's DNA being found inside a bottle of the stuff and Adam experienced similar symptoms... now I wonder... 🤔 Maybe the prosecution was right in the opening statement "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

Rebecca Lyn

"Just can't mix honey and money," BEST wit ever!!

Rebecca Lyn

Damn you Tyler! Just when I stumbled upon one that I was able to say I'd vote not guilty on reasonable doubt!!! Was that brought up by the prosecution during her trials or just in the report?

Rebecca Lyn

I'm with you Amanda.

Rebecca Lyn

What's the affinity with Atlanta? Esp the Falcons? I've been curious about this since I noticed the recurring Falcons shirts and whatnots.

Rebecca Lyn

Reasonable doubt.

Rebecca Lyn

As handsome as you are my good friend, you are looking a bit tired. We love you and would very much understand if you needed to take a break. You work so hard! Please take care :)

Janey_tee

I'm sorry. That's just too damn funny!! I've had those moments myself though and I look like I let my 6y old do my makeup.

Rebecca Lyn

I wondered that myself. If you're not guilty why do you need immunity? That's enough to raise my suspicions on them alone and cast a lot of reasonable doubt towards Caitlyn's way.

Rebecca Lyn

He does a great job doesn't he?

Rebecca Lyn

This is one possibility I also thought. Maybe she was led to believe that it would benefit her both romantically, thus a financial benefit as well? I don't know if she knew of Bill & Kelly's financial situation. Even if she was in on it, I don't think she administered the does, or knowingly do so, and I would venture a guess that she wasn't aware of the true intent. It's a stumper.

Rebecca Lyn

She didn’t do it ... it was the enabled son

Donald Guild

Difficult case! The probabilities are that she did it but had I been on the jury I would have had reasonable doubt. Didn't like her husband AT ALL but that's not enough to find someone guilty!

Fulvia Bottani ni

Not sure if I'd think she's guilty or not. Ofc, I wasn't at the trial and didn't see all of the evidence and testimony. But this has reasonable doubt all over it.

Nadja Ximena

She may be guilty of course but I'm not convinced.

Si Greg

This is such an unusual case. I don't believe she should have been convicted as there is reasonable doubt. If I had been on that second hung jury I would have stuck to my guns and not changed my answer just because the judge demanded it. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I had.

Si Greg

Thanks for all your hard work as always Mike.

Si Greg

I think she was made to be part of the plan in some sort of way. And they have threats over her, and/or empty promises to monetary shares....just back fired, due to relationship drama...just cant mix honey and money, never works out well...

Heather Lilly

That wink tho.

Kyle Leonard

I was thinking the same thing but then Mike said that they interrogated her so hard that she threw up.. I'm not sure if that was before or after she admitted to writing the letter but is it was then it wouldn't have been the first time someone admitted to something that they didn't do due to being under pressure by cops.. For me this one is hard to determine.

Amanda Sweat

Thanks Mike. This is an interesting one.

Taco John

I get the real feeling that dad and son are guilty. This girl has NO motive. Stay well, Mike!

Karen Vega

Some other interesting bits I found about Conley: "Her DNA was also found in the colchicine vial." "Investigators also discovered that in 2015, Conley gave Adam supplements that she claimed would help him focus on his final exams for college. He not only became sick but experienced similar symptoms to what his mother had."

gethaunted

Hi, Mike, and welcome to my mondays. I don't really know what to think about this case, and one of the reasons is that I barely understood what Kaytlin said to the police; she speaks too low and cries at the same time... The motive the prosecutor points out seems too feeble for murder; but the letter she sent to the police seems to incriminate her... Hung jury, for my part. Stay well and healthy, Mike. Till Thursday!

Paula Bernardes-Silva

I don't think I could have convicted her based on this. there are to many questions still remaining

Marcie Lee

Mike!

Zebra

I watched this while waiting for my chiropractor appointment. 🤔

Lisa Henkel

wonder if they could have tried to extract DNA from the petter, maybe fingerprints - I think she is innocent, i think they framed her (dad and son) i think they sent the letter knowing ip address would lead to her. Mike, thanks for all yu do, the sheer amount if editing and research you put in plus bringing us a great narrative really is someone i am happy to pay my Patreon support for! - I've not watched a true crime case until you cover it - I keep commenting but can you cover the TECH CEO who dies in very mysterious circumstances? Erin Valenti, there is tonnes of footage and everything you need to create a great video for us all, its the one case I'd love you to cover as its already so fascinating without being added to that chapter hope you see this one! cheers Mike, Katie - watched every single video ever / superfan

Katie Fox

I agree, if she hadn’t written the letter she would not have become a suspect. Also how did she know where the colchicine was. I would have thought the murderer would have gotten rid of it, not left it under the seat of the car.

Soffity

So Mike, this case is not so mysterious if you don't lose sight of the fact that she admits she wrote the letter to the police. Even if you accept for a moment the far fetched idea that Adam and his father were in cahoots to frame Katlyn, they *COULDN'T HAVE KNOWN* that she would write that letter, which was pivotal in bringing scrutiny upon her. That really bothers me. I can't make that work out in my head in a way that leaves her innocent.

dougie

I’m in ATLANTA! Enjoying the time with the kids!! Went by the Falcons center and thought about you! Have a great week!

Peri Jetton

Wow, this may be the first time I don't think they're guilty. I really don't think she did it.

Sandra S

Love being a Patreon so I can get videos early :) in this case I have a lot of reasonable doubt

Gabriella Rigoulot

Bodacious? Haven’t heard that since like 90s Bill and Teds!

Ginger Antonelli

Thanks Mike

Jane Pohl

Whom knows? 😉

K

Get a lawyer, get a lawyer!

Sash Johnson

REASONABLE DOUBT! This is proof that the cops find a likely suspect and then focus on just that ONE PERSON until they hang them. Giving immunity to the two other suspects was the linchpin. If the jury believed that no one would be convicted, they would be more likely to return a guilty verdict.

Sash Johnson

She hung herself by sending and admitting to sending that letter and buying the prepaid credit cards! And not asking for a lawyer.... The court as well adds suspish to the mix by granting immunity to father/son and the judge "forcing" a verdict ! Who does that? What a mess. As always thank YOU mike I feel like I'm getting quite a lot of value for my patreon $$. Bless u man, you're a gem. I want you, my wonderful dentist, and Taylor Swift to live forever!

Jojo

Ooooooh. This was a good (terrible). I think that they were all involved and the framed her up somehow. They are all right pieces of shite (the suspecs). Family dynamics must be hella awkward now that Mary's sister is with her potential immunity murderer. Brunch is OFF. Thanks as always, Mike. Your cheerful murder narration always makes me smile!

Karol Carstensen

Oh, man. I think they did a job on the girlfriend.

Joe Raposa

I listen to you while I get ready for work, and I was just about to put on eyeliner (it requires focus and steady hands) and what do I hear in my ears? "It involved Pukin' and Poopin'." Now I'm laughing so much my eyeliner is running. Thanks Mike 😂

Krysta Storer

That's what I was thinking... hm

Lisa B

The motive for Bill and/or Adam seems a lot stronger..just saying. A really interesting one, well delivered as ever, thanks Mike.

Sara N

Why would the police give immunity to the 2 other prime suspects, but who the police have decided weren't involved? Sounds illogical, normally immunity is given to someone the police know is involved, but involved to a lesser extent, so they give them immunity to get them to testify against the person with the greater involvement. I hadn't heard of this case before, thanks for your excellent presentation.

Rhonda Jockisch Tisdale

Thanks, Mike!

Lisa B

what a mish mash I was all she did it!! then now I don't know! I'm on the fence! happy easter Monday mike and thank you!
