Hello All!

When Willow cries we all cry - CONFIRMED yet again! I freakin' adore her. I also miss Tara, like a lot! Kennedy is fun and sweet, I hope she can add some happiness to Willow's life, doesn't negate how much we all love Tara of course. Just want the best for her ya know? Sadge. I think the actor that played Warren did a fun job at picking up Willow's mannerisms etc. and it was an interesting way to dive into Willow's mind...still mad at Amy though!!! Also, will Buffy decide to remove Spike's chip?? That is the question.

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 7x13

Comments

I actually love this episode. In a lot of ways, Kennedy reminds me of Faith--she's a little arrogant, a lot tough, and surprisingly funny in a rough way. I think that was what clued me in that my early dislike of Kennedy was more about anyone daring to replace Tara than about Kennedy herself. But as soon as I got some distance, I started to really like Kennedy and Willow as a pair. I lost my mom not too long ago, and the concept of grief as a kind of death itself feels very real when I see this episode again, and the idea that feeling something happy is a betrayal is hard to fight, even if it's not true. But as much as my queer heart adored Tara/Willow, I want Willow to be able to live again. So yeah, while I can understand why someone might not like this episode much, it works for me on a lot of levels.

Old home week as a number of plot elements from past seasons return, and I really like that. I'm not wild about Kennedy, but she's not the MOST irritating Potential.

A weird episode. The whole misdirect with Giles just doesn't work for me. We've had four episodes since that ending in 7x08 and Giles has appeared several times, but I don't recall any ambiguity in his behaviour, nor do I believe that none of the Scoobies would have hugged him or touched him during that time, even if we don't see it on screen. And why did Robson wait so long to make that phone call, was he in a coma? It was a potentially interesting subplot that kinda went nowhere and just ended with a few jokes. I also find the main story with Willow a bit hit and miss. For a dead guy we get an awful lot of Warren this season, and while it sometimes works it feels a little forced in this episode. It's good that we see Willow dealing with her grief and trauma, and Alyson really sells the emotion at the end, but the resolution seems a bit easy. I've never had a problem with Kennedy as a character, she's not a favourite but she's ok. I've always thought that a lot of the hate she seems to get boils down to a case of "not Tara", but I dunno.

The Scoobies not calling or texting Buffy about Giles as the First, is probably because Cellphones weren't a super common thing yet, no? Especially for teens/young adults. S7 aired in 2002. I think she did have one though. But even if they had tried, her being in the wilderness and consequently underground, well, good luck with reception, especially back in the day. The dynamic of the show would have definitely moved very differently if it had aired just a couple of years later. I remember Mulder and Scully on those old black and white Nokia phones even in the late 90s. But they were FBI agents so that's something else. Lol.

Well that was nice... I type out a fairly long comment, hit "post" and lost internet. My comment was also lost. Let me try again... Yes, it did feel like a bit of a filler episode, but it also opened up the possibility of a new relationship. It also led to that very emotional scene in THE backyard. I would put that on my (quite long) list of best scenes. Who would have thought that a TV show revolving around slaying vampires could affect you this way. I too think that the chip will be removed. That could have bad consequences, but Spike has been living a very different life for quite awhile and he has to see how much better his life is now versus back in the day. Typing that made me think about the old days, and boy do I miss Drusilla... No offense to Iyari Limon, as I think she did a good job, but I'm not familiar with anything she's been in. I wish they had chosen Felicia Day for this potential relationship as I'm very familiar with her and she's a favorite. Kennedy is a polarizing character as some people like her and some people hate her. Myself, I like her so far. Kennedy, do NOT hurt Willow. Thanks Dak! 😺

Who could have guessed that one of the most touching scenes in season 7 would involve Kennedy kissing Warren? 👄

In terms of Kennedy's age - she mentioned in a previous episode that she thought she might be too old to be called to be a slayer, so she's obviously a bit older than the rest of them. I think maybe between 18 and 20 (I honestly can't remember if they mention her age) I don't mind Kennedy unlike a lot of other people! I mean yeah she's no Tara but she's fine.

I like Kennedy too ❤️

Kennedy got a bad rep back in the day and I hated her on first viewing but she's grown on me since. Everybody loved Oz and then Tara so she was always going to get a hard time just for not being either of those two. She's very blunt and forward but I've come to like that as there are people like that in life, not everybody is soft and quiet like Oz and Tara, some people just have that I'll say whatever attitude. I don't view her and Willows relationship like anything she's had previously but not every relationship has to be full on love and death, it can be more casual and that's how I've come to view Willow and Kennedy. I think a lot of people just hate her because she isn't Tara and they think Willow should spend her life in mourning but I quite like that Willow still just wants to hook up and get laid, I think that's a very realistic approach to life.

I really didn’t like the Kennedy relationship i felt like it was forced. My God Alyson Hannigan was so great at scenes like this every time i rewatch these emotional Willow episodes and scenes they always get to me. Amy became so jealous and so vengeful in the end she turned into her mother.

Personally I always really liked this episode, but I know general opinions about it are mixed. I do think Willow and Warren acted the crap out of that. I like the twist they did on Willow's grief over Tara and how they dealt with it. There is not too much going on in this episode plot wise. Its mostly dealing with people's insecurities in a way. I do like how everyone that watches this episode is like, wait... did Giles touch anything? Amy hasn't had a nice life, and can be salty sure. But shes just.... ugh. Just turn her back into rat. Even when she says she's been working on herself witht he group and it took so long till she saw what she did etc. its all hot air. She's still spitefull. Now the question remains, what will Buffy do with spike's chip.

Bart Aansorgh

I like that you thought Kennedy seems nice, because I actually like when people have a different opinion on Buffy characters than I do. I detest Kennedy. No, really, I absolutely loathe and detest her as a character. Don't get me wrong, I like the concept of Kennedy as a character, and I like the idea of having Willow explore a relationship with someone who is the polar opposite of Tara. On paper at least it's something that I think could've been a really interest subject to explore, with an interesting character partly driving the plot line. But then this episode happened, and the way Kennedy was written was/is just infuriating to me. I don't care that she's not Tara, I do care that she has lines like, "Get them drunk, see if they come unto you". After the complete non exploration of Willow assaulting Tara last season, they decide to follow up with another lesbian character making flippant remarks about removing someone's ability to consent. Besides that she lies to Willow, essentially manipulates her into a date, and insults Willow's interest in magic by calling it fairytale crap. Even if she does then say it's cool if Willow likes it, that's certainly not the sort of thing I'd want to hear on a first date, like "Hey, you know that thing that is a really important part of your life, I think it's stupid, but that's okay if you like it." Essentially the way I look at a character like Kennedy is to ask myself, "If this character was male, would I give their words and/or actions a pass?" If the answer is no, then I won't give that character a pass just because they're female. I honestly would have also loved it if they had decided to show Willow just developing a friendship with another lesbian. We've never really seen her exploring things like the concept of community relationships, and friendships within the LGBTQI+ community. I think that could have been an interesting angle for Willow's character, but instead it feels to me like what we got was more akin to, "Look, two gay women exist in the same space, that must mean they're automatically gay for each other." It's a huge no from me.
